You can’t combo into karakusa, Im not sure what your trying to do with kara ex karakusa ^^. HP hc mp is a one frame link though so its not an easy combo. Usually you would do HP hc mp > mp hayate. If you can’t do one frame links just do HP > HP hayate or HP > ex Oroshi/ex hayate/.
BTW kara karakusa gives it more range. What I think your after is blockakusa which you use in block strings by canceling st.lk into karakusa. Hit your opponent with st.lk and then input a karakusa. So you would do HP hc mp st.lk hk.karakusa. If it whiffs and your too far away you did it too late. if it whiffs and your up close you did it to fast.
Edit. if i remember correctly ex karakusa has the range of the lk ver and the startup time of the HK ver. So you only want to use it for its armour really.

There’s no real reason to do kara karakusa after an mp. If you landed the karakusa the first time get your damage. Then see if you can land a Blockakusa. It’s a little risky to go for resets at that point
Quick little question, is the start up on every karakasu the same? Been using the light one a lot more then any other because i thought it was faster haha. But i was checking data on event hubs and the have no start up posted for any version. Thank you!
Yeah they do. lk ver has the lowest startup time and the lowest range.

Edit: someone told me they changed the startup time of the ex ver in 2012. I can’t see it mentioned in the changes though so I think its still the same

They just shortened the range of EX Karakusa, now it’s just around the same as lk karakusa whereas in 2011 it was closer to mk karakusa
oh wait I got that little setup from the training regime thread so after reading various post id figure that its not practical in a match. Im also getting the hang of the hc because im starting to realize that its an important tool to setup most karakusa’s in a match with blockusa. also kaiten if your offer still stands with adding you online for the support of makoto i would like too because most of the makoto players on my friend list are too busy to respond or to give a damn lol.

When she does HJC normal seisumo, you can backdash -> kara EX fukiage. It will punish from anywhere.
For example:
EX seisumo HJC normal seisumo. Just backdash between them and punish
what exactly do I start working on after I get the basics down because I know theres a specific order that should be followed when it comes to training

First off I want to say thanks to everyone in the Makoto forums for all the info provided. I’ve lurked these boards since I mained Makoto back in SSF4, and I got all my game from here. That being said, I’m still not very good with her.
I had a question about U2. I try to do the double Fukiage after landing Abare, but I can never get the second Fukiage to connect. The opponent just falls through. Is there a special condition that I need to meet for the second one to connect?

What basics have you already learned? Have you already learned how to move around without running into shit? Safe-jumps? Links? Hard to let you know where to go next if we don’t know where you’ve been. IMO, you can win with Mak if you have so-so mechanics. She’s not Viper. The real bitch is learning the decision making and reading skills necessary to get in, do damage and defend against pressure.
Hey guys, I picked up Makoto last week and Im enjoying playing her. The info in this guide is really useful and is helping me out a ton. My question goes for the Hayate Cancel into St.MP. Should I be plinking the MP ? One of the things I work on in training mode is Karakusa, St.Hp, Hayate Cancel, St.MP xx Ex Hayate or Ex Oroshi. Most of the time the St.MP doesn’t come out so im guessing im pressing it too early so I try to delay it a lil but the dummy end up blocking. Is this a 1frame link ?
It is a 1f link and it is weird to time because it comes after the hayate cancel but it becomes easier with practice, plinking also makes it easier
iirc you can only connect 2 fukiages off of a non-animation hk (or full screen) Abare Tosanami, which you can then follow up with EX Tsurugi or EX Hayate
It is a one frame link. Plinking will help but still it’s all about the timing. What I do (I’d say im 95% consistent online) is press mk just before I press hp. I guess it would be a hayate cancel negative edge? It works wonders. And about moving on from the basics… Don’t. MASTER the basics. A house built on stone stands stronger than a house built on sand. If you can win with just the basics there’s no point in learning anything useless.
