Try using forward+medium kick instead. After the ultra sends your opponent up in the air, watch them, half a second after they start falling back down, use forward + mk. If you’re mid-screen you’ll need to use it a couple more times to keep juggling them, then use light lunge punch.
I recommend the kick over the lunge because it doesn’t scale as much.
You don’t have to juggle with lunge punch from midscreen, you can pop them back up after 3 f.mk with s.mp and cancel it into another f.mk and finish with a reset or sweep, does a little more damage overall.
Watch for the screen to return to normal, almost straight after it does do a lunge punch. Hard to say much more than that, just practice it in training.
This video is still pretty relevant, though a few of them don’t work anymore (like all the EX Lunge -> U1 setups).
Not sure if** heavy kick -> U1 (corner)** or Palm -> U1 (corner) work anymore, I’ll test them later. If you mean pure 2012 new setups, I’m not sure of any but EX Upkicks -> U1 (corner) is easier to land now. You can combo into it from a B&B and you don’t have to be right in the corner to do it (it pushes you both towards the corner a little) try it in training to see how close you have to be. It can start to scale bad if you add too many hits to the setup combo though.
Palm -> u1 need double tapping the 3P button or plinking to get it consistent since the recover for Palm make the link quite tight. Still if you have a good monitor and good execution, it is possible to do it normally. But it is tight. No double palm and no meaty palm to another palm though, even if palm it during it last active frame.
There are hardly any for Ultra 2 in comparison. Medium shoulder -> U2 works in the corner with Genei Jin active but you can’t follow up on it like you can with U1. Sure I’ve seen one other way of comboing into it but that’s all I can think of, its uses are very limited compared to U1. Best used against Sagat, can be used to punish fireballs from close range, same for other fireball characters. If you’re playing good players they’ll stop throwing them when you’re close so they might not give you that chance to use it, but its an option if you want to limit the amount of fireballs they throw.
Any fun reset GJ combos? I’ve been messing around with genei jin and found a lol combo with 2 mp. shoulder crossup resets into u1 to finish it off, does around 700 dmg.
i was hoping for a damage value so I could compare to my own GJ combo. I have one that does 450 (only counting post-GJ activation), or 454 if I’m fast enough to sneak in a st. mp in there.
Because of the damage nerf to f.MK, I try to leave it out of Genei Jin combos.
Corner:
Hit Confirm > Activate > HK > Dash > [Palm > Palm > HP Lunge] x 2 > Palm > f.MK > cr.HK
That’s what I use in 2012. There’s probably something better, but I don’t really play this game anymore, so I haven’t really messed around with 2012. If you need numbers, it does 477 if you start it with cr.MK > Light Shoulder.
edit
I don’t know if this has been posted, but because of the stealth buff to EX Upkicks, it is now possible to connect EX Shoulder after it. It does more damage than EX Upkicks and works anywhere on the screen. I haven’t tested it on every character, though.
edit
I tried the HK Upkick GJ combo I saw in some video:
Hit Confirm > Activate > HK > HK Upkicks > [cr.HP > HK Upkicks] x 2 > cr.HP > Palm > cr.HK
Starting with the cr.MK > Light Shoulder hit confirm, it does 478 damage. Not a big difference, but it’s probably more reliable.
