AE Update - What would you change (add, remove or simply modifiy) about Balrog in the Update?

• Hit properties on Dash Overhead changed so that it can combo into c.strong on all characters.

• Close stand fierce hitbox extended downwards so that it hits crouching characters that it used to whiff on.

HEADBUTT BUFF OMG! THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! BALROG FOR EVO 2012!

The way I see it:

  • Headbutt dmg somewhat restored - GOOD :>
  • U2 damage increase - doesn’t matter for jack squat if the reach and startup is the same.
  • Overhead into cr.MP on all chars - more like a much awaited fix lol (no more free rides Gen players!! lol)
  • cl.HP on crouchers - again, more like a much awaited fix, could be a great replacement for cl.HK or cr.MK to blow up avid crouch-techers.

The main thing for me is the stand LP hitting crouchers. Making that shit whiff was just stupid on so many levels.

The overhead - cr MK gives better mix-up options since you can (I think) link that into a HB, which by the way, is CHUNKY AGAIN!

the question for me is: will the headbutt after cMP hit all characters too? i can’t connect it on characters like oni or blanka.

as for the ultra 2 buff…
i would love to see it become a high damage ultra instead of a high stun ultra. if it also would have got 1+0 startup… think of the possiblities…

Does cr MK link into any other normal that doesnt cause knockdown. I wanna try and still get a HB of that sequence:

Overhead > cr MK > X > cr Jab/strong > HB

you can do OH FADC fwd, cr.mk, cr.lp/st.lp, cr.mp xx hp.ds/ex.ru/hp.hb* etc
*hb might whiff on a good majority of the cast at that distance, see the OH followup chart

You need to have the FADC since cr.mk pushes balrog out too far for the majority of the cast to link any other normals. At a distance you can do cr.mk xx super (you need to have enough time to get enough back-charge for the super). And if you do the FADC, you HAVE to insert the attack inbetween the cr.mk and cr.mp to get your back-charge to cancel into anything.

Edit: so the answer is still no in a round about way, you can’t link lp.hb from cr.mk since you only have +7 on hit (you can on CH).

I listened to the PR Rog interview on the SRK podcast. I think his opinion was that the changes in AE2012 will make Rog top tier again. What do you guys think?

The one thing thats killing Rog is the HB recovery, and the fact that his second ultra is absolutely useless.

Oh and dont listen to Eduardo anymore when it comes to SSFIV.
He has given up on that game and has moved on to Marvel vs Siezure3.

Seriously, HB recovery? It really isn’t that big of a deal. I mean I guess it is if your whole game comes down to HB mixups in the corner.

Standing jab nerf was worse because it messed up the sagat/geif/abel matchups.

Rog will for sure be top tier now. Plus the overhead buff means I can cr. strong/hb ultra all them rog scrubs now.

Like enig said, won’t work for the most part. You can FADC forward and do a delayed close MP. into cr jab/strong dash straight. only works on the fatties though, or most people in the corner. I guess you could go for a ex. Rush into headbutt but thats hella meter for not much more damage.

I think we do need to pay attention to the fine print. The changes noted that OH, cr.mp works on ALL characters, not that cr.mp xx HB works on all characters. It’s safe to say that non point-blank OH, cr.mp xx hp.ds works on ALL characters (point blank may not always give you enough time for back-charge). The reason cr.mp xx hb doesn’t work on some characters has to do with the pushback/blowback after cr.mp and not the actual OH. It makes since that they can mod OH to have less pushback on hit so cr.mp always hits, but I think they’d have to modify the cast’s hitboxes to make hp.hb work on every character after cr.mp crouching or standing. Also OH, lp/mp.hb might work on the entire cast.

I could be very wrong though, just keep it in mind.

Modification to cl.hp’s hitbox probably means that corner j.hk/j.hp, cl.hp, cr/st.lp works on the entire cast (which could be seen as moot with AE’s cl.mp buff, but more damage/stun for sure).
