Oh. This is the ibuki thread too, so I guess ill toss in some thoughts there.
Unfortunately, the ibuki player, while a nice guy, doesnt have the best ibuki around. I tell him some counters for the blanka match, and he doesnt really implement them. However, when i was in seattle last summer, I beat their ibuki, buktooth, so I have a bit of experience in the match.
The footsie game I would say is in blanka’s favor. Good overall pokes allows blanka to control space really well. However, the issue comes to ibuki’s come back factor if she gets a knockdown. After the knockdown, blanka’s wierd hurtbox makes some ibuki combos whiff, but if they know the guaranteed combo, then her mixups can allow her to come back from near death.
Ex rainbow roll is not a real escape in that match from knockdown, as ibuki can use legbreaker to catch blanka on the recovery. Ex upball can be made to whiff, and then punished again with legbreaker.
However, blanka has great anti-airs in the match (jumping fp especially), and great footsies, so if he can avoid the knockdown blanka has a good shot to win. Electricity pressure works really well against ibuki, her reversal only works with ex meter, and if you block it, the best punish I have found is to do a jump mk crossup combo, rather than waiting for her to land (her reversal is that wierd vertical kick thingy). Ibuki has a large hurtbox, so its easy to use electricities against her.
Thats kinda the overall vision I have of the match, but unfortunately I havent played any very high level ibuki’s to really test myself.
I feel really clueless vs. Guy. someone have a good match for me to analyze?
you should talk to iRedman. he’s pretty good with matchup knowledge. if he doesn’t know then you guys can work it out together.
yeah I’m talking to ferris right now.
whenever I play guy in tournament they just can’t tech throws or w/e so I just land a billion unblockables and didn’t learn the matchup.
actually studying now. I’ll hit up redman, he’s on my fl, we just never play.
control air space and make him fight on ground. There is a sweet spot where you can slide air elbows and just AA normal jumps. Whiff punish his buffered s.MP.
it’s a weird fight. I don’t fight vs guys like i do other chars cuz he has these interesting ground normals. I almost fight guy like i fight vs gief. I don’t want to get close because it becomes more of an even matchup, while at a longer range it turns into a lame game that he is behind in. I’m not sure what airs beat his c.MP i normally don’t bother going offensive anyway.
Ground anti airs are effective against all his air game and slide too at far range, neutral jump fierce is great and forward/backward fierce/strong are good too.
You need to react and punish to all of his attempts, all are unsafes unless fadc or very slow (lp & mp elbows), his normals are good yes especially his cr.mp and his stand mk.
His cr.mp beat your stand mp, your stand hp/cr.hp are good, stand lp is good to and generally all other pokes.
You need to stay static, careful about what he does and play footsies. His knockdown without ex is free, you can do everything you want, unblockable is free, with ex, his dp is 4 frames. Free U1 to chip if he has only U1.
Be careful about his frame trap too, he has a great cr.hp which leads to big damages.
I find this match up much more easy with the new exupball and overhead.
Yeah ex upball was a huge buff for this matchup.
Ves you should do a FT5 vs Guy on an ultimate fight night monday, it will give you good exposure even if online is meh

i find fighting against Guy in some ways kinda similar to fighting against boxer in some ways

How so?
I find Guy pretty even to fight, his pressure is not safe, Blanka can punish and counter a lot of things, he can zone out Guy and search knockdown, but Guy’s corner pressure is really strong and great frame traps.
Ibuki is 6-4 for her i think, she has better normals and if she has a knockdown, it’s really really hard, huge damages and mix-ups and no escape.
Hakan is weird, easy to fight if he’s dry but tough if oiled, amazing focus/parry, great normals and nasty mix-ups if he has a knockdown but Blanka can play footsies against him, force him to oil up at wrong range and punish him.
Juri is something slightly in Blanka’s favor, Blanka can do a great job against her footsies game, hop and slide against fireball, better normals and good anti airs, but she has a great corner pressure so be careful.
Ken is even with more learning i find, odd range to keep where he can’t kara throw you and where you can counter his forward mk.

to me just his ability to punish ball and his poke/footsie game and me trying to land that back throw or sometimes focus his attacks makes it somewhat similar…
obviously them being two completely different characters makes them different… but it’s just a feeling when i fight against Guy… that’s all

might be obvious to some players already… but against Ken… LP+LK+MP+MK back dash option select against Ken kara throw distance works amazing… you pretty much avoid all his option at his kara throw range.

Lau, that sounds really interesting, but I dont really get it. how does LP+LK+MP+MK work as an option select? Basically, are you mashing backdash while mashing those four buttons? Its just not really clear to me. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Josh, you can use this tactic on wakeup too.
Basically you are doing a brief FA (but also doing a throw tech) then a backdash.
So you can escape a meaty normal by absorbing it with a FA while avoiding common OS’s OR tech a throw attempt and escape any other attack with a backdash.
Color me a scrub but I never understood how you were actually supposed to input that OS. Do you hit MP and MK then LK and LP?

You literally press all four buttons (lp+lk+mp+mk) all at the same time… what you will see is just a regular focus… but actually it tech throws at the same time… you can also backdash afterwards like a regular focus attack… against certain setup it more or less covers all or most options unless they are specifically trying to go against it… in the example i made above i believe you literally avoid all ken’s options at kara throw range assuming your back isnt against the wall… since you’re at a distance… you tech his kara throw if he’s doing it… you focus his step kick and hp dp at that range can only hit you once which you can also focus backdash… and i don’t think tatsu is fast enough…
Hope this clear things up

Short question:
How do you punish juri’s wheels?
EDIT: looks like U1 gets the job done in any case!
Slide for EX
Cr.mk/cr.lp xx ball for the rest
How do you unblockable guy?
b.throw, dash, j.mk, the timing is a little tighter now in 2012, and he can ex tatsu and punish the attempt.
If you focus dash you can make the tatsu whiff though.
