AE Changes and Comments

max/almost max range range st.lp xx lp ball. I generally do this off of a blocked cr.mk if I was trying to do cr.mk, st.lp xx elec or ball and the cr.mk gets blocked. You can’t start this super deep or the ball will not be a safeball.

cr.mk, cr.lp xx lp or mp ball. Mp ball is less safe, but is safe against ex low tiger from sagat on stand or crouch block. Doesn’t seem to matter how deep you hit it either.

j.hk, cl.mp, cr.lk xx lp ball.

I haven’t done a lot of safeball testing. When I was supplying info for the ow my balls thread, I only used the first two setups.

Due to hitbox issues different things can be slightly more or less safe against certain characters.

Just right now I learned that deep j.hp, cr.mk, cr.lp xx lp ball on hit is completely safe against all of Boxers moves including his super(and Cammy’s ultra) on hit, but it isn’t especially practical. Even the fact that it makes reversal ultra with boxer completely whiff half the time on block doesn’t really make it useful.

I think really to get the most of of safeball setups you have to look at an individual character, identify a problem move, and then work out a setup based on the character.

The problem with that though is that you have to be really specific about how you do the setup. Take the j.hp, cr.mk, cr.lp xx lp ball setup above for Adon that actually works against his U1 and his short jaguar kick. That sounds great right? However the height you hit the j.hp at and when you press mk and lp both decide whether or not the setup will work. Doing the exact same button presses with the exact same amount of deepness on the jumpin, but at different times gave me 5 different result combinations against Adon.

Overall I really only safeball against Sagat, Rufus, and Guile because you don’t have to do anything especially interesting to get it to work against them.

damn, i hate stuff like that, i’lld try and test that cammy one though in spite of the randomness as anything in that matchup is worth learning!

I’ve no idea, I’d expect EX upball to come out but it doesn’t. Square gate hori ex2 here, might be different on an octo gate TE etc.

Well I think in that situation you just want to hit her with an elec combo anyways, so once again less practical.

The j.hp, cr.mk, cr.lp xx lp ball setup is very good against Cody because outside of getting tagged by 2 hits of U2 if you time it correctly you are super safe. Reversal EX ruffian kick literally comes up half a character length short.

I think what I really need to do is figure out setups that are practical in footsies in a comprehensive manner. However my willingness to come up with new Blanka tech is waning based on the AE changes.

Veserius what about jimmy’s ultra 2 ground attack after focus crumble… does it finally connect fully (4 hit)?

wait are you saying LP is safe vs rog on block or hit? just want to make sure. Also more interested on normals, anything buffed?

safe ball is a setup in vanilla and SSF4 and i hope in AE too!

that setup makes jab ball safe on hit, and on block ultra is iffy. sometimes I just got the first hit, and othertimes it whiffed if trying to hit airborne blocking. Trying to hit grounded blanka late, the first dash punch would whiff.

The problem is like I described, the different times you hit buttons change some of the “randomness” that Viscant is always talking about in regards to balls. A lot of this stuff is “yeah I can get a recording of Blanka doing it in training mode after a few tries”, but trying to replicate it consistently is hard.

So basically instead of complaining about balls scrubs are now going to moan even more about his slide?

tipping with slide isn’t even good considering how easy it is to focus.

What worries me is the devblog saying the hurtbox on Blanka’s slide recovery got bigger, so even if you can tip with the slide more easily it might be even easier to focus punish.

Yeah me too. I remember there being a bit of controversy on whether hop was nerfed on forward/back hop or just back hop cause the translation was a big iffy.

Slide might be better to tip with if it has fewer active frames, making it a quicker move to execute and not as easy to react to.

i’m not sure what she’s saying about suprise forward stiffen? we’ll know as the days go by. But that is very important. Hop ending frames cannot get any worse or i will be a sad panda.
