Even though this is really last minute, I’ll try to make it to this.
I respect the fact that somebody is giving items a chance.

However, you didn’t specify what time the tournament is starting?
Also, do they still have Visitor Parking? I know they’ve been doing construction work forever on Elizabeth Ave…

My apologies, it was a straight copy/paste from the rule sheet. The ad flyer had the time so I’ll add that to the above post. It will from 2PM “until” though I know that we’ll be done before 10PM our cutoff time for the room/cleanup.

We have parking in the large parking deck across the street from the IT building + next door to the bookstore.

Hey what’s up man, I met you last night. I’ll try to make it to this one.

About how many people do you expect?

Have you posted this on the Smashboards?

Unfortunately, I’ve never been to Smashboards and to be honest, I’ve just now come back to SRK after a long hiatus. Recently suffered a nasty spyware adware attack so my online was limited for a while and we discovered that someone had taken down half of our flyers that we had up around campus. The announcements really weren’t supposed to be as last minute as they wound up being.

For your other question, it looks like 16 guaranteed with the possibility of 32 unless we manage to get a much larger turnout. It’s been hard to gauge since this is our first event of this kind and people seem like they’ll be showing up the day of instead of pre-registering.

Updated the first post with the new info. I’ll be slowly adding more once I’ve got some concrete confirmations on the rooms and available food.

Great stuff, on the new dates.

I would say that testing out varying rules is good idea for Smash in this area so that we can find out what kind of consensus the emerging Brawl community in our area wants to settle on.

May 30th is confirmed for Game Day. I updated a few changes to the first post. July 14th also looks like it will be good but still waiting on full confirmation.

would I be out of line if I asked for the reasoning behind some of the stages on rotation and the no character change rule? I live in GSO and I might come down for the June tournament.

Nah, you wouldn’t be out of line. That was the rules for the previous tournament and I’ll chalk that up as beginner mistakes as a tournament organizer. All things considered, everybody enjoyed the event and I will be making a point of implementing Advanced Slob picks and other things for the tourney in June. I need to find some place to archive the old info so people can look at it for reference. For instance Darklightjg1 placed third but I haven’t posted tourney results anywhere. We tracked the progress on paper–now I’ve discovered tio which will make life a lot easier. It’s been a learning experience so far. I’ve got a better understanding of a number of things now plus I’m flexible with things so I’m willing to experiment with stuff (trying to alternate item and no-item tourneys to accomodate everyone, testing the Cage Matches in a tournament setting).

cage match and shadow moses will be fun.

ok, I was just wondering why you would force someone to play Shadow moses island. That’s one of the stages that a lot of people ban because of easy wall infinites. I could understand making an option for the loser to take you there, but not forcing people to play on it.

I do like the idea of testing out items tournaments and the cage match style. That looks really interesting.

so what is next tourney:

items or no items?

No items as the main with the possibility of a secondary/side/undercard match with the Cage match setup. I should have the details up by Friday evening. There should be friendlies for both items and no items but the item friendlies will probably be afterwards.

You say that there is room for traditional fighters at the event now?

What kind of systems will be available?

Its less of a seperate room for today (because it isn’t, one has to be reserved for students who need the labs) but rather the fact that I’m bringing my Dreamcast, arcade sticks, and at least MvC2. I’ll probably add SF3:TS and Power Stone for good measure. Also, since I’ve been talking about it so much I’ll be bringing my N64 and Fighter Destiny 2.

There will be seperate rooms on the tournament day (June 14) but obviously there’ll be a bigger turnout for both.

June 14 tournament rules are up. I’ll let people know if there are any changes.

For anyone who is interested, there will also be a Traditional Fighter’s Room at the event.

I, personally, will likely be in both Smash and in the Traditional Fighter’s room.

It looks like we’ll be starting the Cage Match (Stamina) mode first at 1:30 with the normal Smash tourney after the first finishes. I look forward to seeing everyone who’s coming out to this.

Cage Match tournament should be interesting to see. It could start a brand new trend for Brawl.
