More info: beware of high level ken he gets pretty dp happy in later leves, also dhalsim never gets hit by the devil reverse so you have to chip it all the way, and be careful against laura and zangief they are the only ones that challenge the cr. mp probably the best way to beat them is to do the devil reverse non-stop, but I do know, i didn’t test this teory. But all of this is in hell, in hard nobody even seemed to have an answer for this “tactic”.
Edit: Removed audio. I forgot that I was using headphones and thought it was recording the game audio =P.
I finally beat Hard Survival with Ryu. Spamming DP does not work for every stage. Let me share my advice:
Ken/Chun-Li/Cammy/Vega
These characters are vulnerable to sweep whenever they’re walking forward. Look for this and sweep at maximum range. Then follow-up with a cross up into your B&B combo. Rinse and repeat.
Birdie Stage 34+
You can punish his Bull Head move with sweep. Then do a safe cross up. Lot’s of safe cross ups.
Rashid:
Zoning actually works here as well as safe-cross ups.
Dhalsim:
Use lots of pressure and cross-ups. You’ll take a few hits but don’t let up. Zoning him is a huge mistake due to his teleport. The CPU will teleport on the first frame of your fireball startup.
**Bison: **
After he does scissors kick, use m.DP, then safe cross-up. Probably the easiest match.
Laura Stage 42:
This one is such a pain, but is actually easy after I found a consistent strategy. Block her elbow attack, then do cr.MP two times to push her to max sweep range. Wait almost one second and then sweep. This works like 90% of the time, and most times you’ll get a crush counter. Follow-up with cross up. If she blocks the sweep, she’s too far away to punish. Rinse and repeat. Practice this in training mode until you get the timing right.
Vega Stage 47:
Spamming DP works on this stage.
Necalli Stage 50:
I kinda got lucky on this one. I was getting destroyed until I did wake up DP and then did a cross-up combo into super. I had Attack Up 3 supplement, so he had a sliver of health left. I zoned him until he got KO’d.
If you have decent health, I suggest taking the attack supplement instead of defense on this last one.
I’d say Chun Li is pretty easy until you get to like the last few characters. Then you have to get a bit more lucky than the characters with DPs. V Skill cross ups should get you to about level 40 without much issue.
Nope I spam the V-Skill and cross up but once you get to around 33 and you run into Dhalsim with perfect anti-airs and whiff punishes, or Birdie who only uses safe moves, it becomes mostly luck whether I get by them or not. Eventually the CPUs start blocking your cross-ups too I find. I’ve never gotten above 35 in hard survival. If there’s a specific exploit from levels 30-50 that works I’d love to hear it.
I’ll play hard survival with her again in a bit and see what happens when I get to Dhalsim. I remember you have to do some improvising vs Sim but there’s a way you can fight him where you should win most of the time.
From watching the video I posted in the first page it seems you just have walk in and pressure him a bit. Stay on the ground for a bit first then try a V Skill later. He seemed to fall for the first V Skill the guy in the video went for so it’s not impossible.
Ive never tried it this way, but I beat hard mode survival with Vega spamming Izuna drop. Works on everyone except birdie for the most part. That strategy got me to lvl 67 in hell mode.
I also notice that with Vega, the computer is pretty stupid against sweep for the most part. Especially Laura, Chun, and Mika. Which is good. Cause they all suck and will try to anti air Vega.
Since you guys are likely to be farming some FM before the next update, let me just say this: those match up specific strategies are all well and good, but the easiest way to succeed against the dumb CPU is learning how to time meaty jump ins on their wake up. Everybody seems to fall for it in every difficulty.
After a long hiatus of not attempting it, I finally did it with Cammy. But yo, when your boy Ryu straight up parries the cannon spike point blank, but doesn’t do anything right after:
I finally beat survival hell on my second attempt (loss at level 86 first time). Thank god for fight request. level 93 (I think) Ken almost took me out.
Spam the pause button. It may take a long time, it may be boring, but it’s a way to see what your opponent does before the attack comes out, and then you can punish
It was really easy with Cammy. Beat it on my first try. All you really have to do is spam dp and once you get a knockdown, do a meaty jump into her most damaging combo. Make sure you end it with another dp and keep doing the meaty jumpin on their wake-up.
I’ve beaten hard with 10 fucking characters now and I’m about to lose my shit. I really don’t want to do this anymore, but I want more monies! I’ve lost to level 50 Necalli twice with two separate characters. One time he only had 1 hp left.
This is very true, however a lot of characters don’t have a way to do a perfect meaty jump-in after a knockdown.
Specific advice against certain Opponents, works at all levels:
FANG: Get in and pummel him with BnB, dont let up. (easy) Dhalsim: Same thing. He just does not let you in as easily as FANG does. Ex-Headstomp (Devil Reverse) a Fireball is a good way. He still does tricky stuff from time to time, be aware. (annoying) Laura: DO NOT JUMP! Knock her down and pummel her with S.HK -> S.HP -> Inferno. If she gets hits on you, block, be patient and strike back when there is an opening. (medium) Zangief: Spam C.MP -> Head Stomp -> SSD. And dont mess up like I did. Very rarely he will whiff an SPD, which causes your Head Stomp to miss. Dont let it catch you off guard. Just c.MP and get back to the sequence.
(easy) Karin: Head Stomp -> SSD spam works here too. Sometimes you gets out of the way, and very rarely she will Anti-air you. Be patient and work back to your sequence, if she does. Once she is in the corner, she is done for. (medium) Rashid: Head stomp sequence works. Any combo into Inferno works… almost everything works. His AI is almost non-existent. Sometimes he messes with your rythm by jumping into SSD or get hit in some other way. (easy) R.Mika: This is THE most dangerous one. She will anti-air you quite often if you go for head stomps. She can J.HK you out of Devil Reverse. And on the ground… well, she is Mika. Throughout all the Mika Fights the most reliable method seemed the S.HK -> S.HP - Inferno. Make sure you dont stand too close, she attempts to do her slide quite often. Dont rely on anything too much. Play solid and keep focused. (quite hard) Vega: Head Stomps an Devil Reverse work. He gets away often, but does not hurt you while doing so. Once he is cornered he wont get away, unless you let him, like I did. (annoying) Necalli: Better stay on the ground and go with S.HK -> S.HP - Inferno and S.MP -> C.MP -> Inferno once you knocked him down. Cross ups work too mostt of the time. Messing stuff up will hurt… (hard) Ken: Suprisingly prone to Head Stomp or Devil Reverse sequence. Especially in the corner. But… it’s Ken. So random SRKs will happen. His combos hurt… (medium) Birdie: Time to relax. He is absolutely helpless. Head Stomp sequence him into the ground. He should never ever hit you. (very easy) Cammy: One for the ground. Inferno Combos should do. The occasional wake up CS can be annoying. Dont get too excited when she is in on you. Her stuff can hurt. (medium) Bison: Head Stomp sequence! Make sure you float over him as far as you can, after the head stomp hits and come back for SSD. That way his C.HP will miss. If he somehow hits you out he can do some brutal combos. (easy-medium) Nash: Head Stomp, Devil reverse stuff. He has no answer to that. (easy) Chun-Li: She will not anti-air Devil Reverse and Head Stomp, but she will HK you out of SSD. So I went for some hit and run stuff. She usually is dangerous when she gets in and gives me lots of trouble. AI normals seem to be always this 1 frame faster, and this can hurt. (medium-hard) Ryu: Usually I go with S.HK -> S.HP - Inferno. It works fine. If not… well… it is Ryu. Sense hadokens, jump in and hit him. Stay aways send Hadokens back with V-Skill, but dont overdo this if he jumps over your projectile. Dont get cornered and he is not all that hard. (medium)
I got a bit nervous after Chun-li blocked my CA.
Thanks to kzt_ryu for reminding me of how awesome Devil Reverse can be against the AI. But spamming low altitude Devil Reverse is… stressful.
