Hey would love to get some advice on my Abel game!
Only prob that should be said here lout and clearly is that because I’ve moved, my Internet’s pretty slow in the moment, resulting in a bad latency. Anyone who wants to help pls recognize my excuse.
This problem should be solved in 1-3 months so pls be patient.
Could we maybe get an updated list up, and categorize it so we see who’s in Europe and who’s in the US and Asia etc. It’d ease up on reading through all the pages.
I have recently progressed to G1 and am finding the competition a bit too much. I would love for a more experienced player to spar with and give some pointers.
gg’s shred. Keep in mind, that I’m not exactly a perfect abel so any advice I give you should be taken more as my opinions and observations, rather than factual thigns that you need to work on. I think we spent a ton of time in the air for no reason so maybe try to stay more grounded. Against people with strong anti-airs Abel will pretty much be hurting if he’s in the air a lot.
Mix up your combos on your opp. wake up. Whenever I was down I think I was ready for a cross up -> c.mp -> cod combo. Try doing the cross up into TT or spam a few rolls and make me be confused over my position. All in all I think you played well. Both of us are weaker on defense so I can’t really help you there (still learning myself).
Also, learn to put a lot more pressure when you have the chances. Doing a finishing combo is great, but again mix it up. Try some f.mk -> c.lp c.lp block strings. What I’ve been using (assuming they don’t catch on and own me) is f.mk -> c.lp c.lp c.lp f.mk -> c.lp TT. I know it’s not something super special, but it annoys people and a mental edge is just as strong as a physical one. If mind games will make them miss some moves, then you should be abusing that.
I aldo don’t remember if this happened or not, but there were a lot of times where you got both hits off of a c.hp but you failed to follow up. I think you adjust this after the first few matches but I don’t remember. Learn that stuff! Either do the roll Falling Sky or just FS by itself. Or go for a mixup or something…anything. When you land that c.hp without a finisher you’re basically giving away 150+ points worth of damage.
I know I made a ton of mistakes and I have a terrible habitt of finishing out my cod no matter what. I definitely need to work on stopping after the first hit and going for that TT.
I had a good time playing you too. I think you and I are on the same level to be honest but I have been a pad player since the games release and I, just a couple of weeks ago, switched to stick…gimme some time though and I’ll get back to my level of play. (which I think to be more like OUR level of play)
All of the matches were really close. Pretty much everything you said is stuff I could call myself out for. I know I need to drill my pressure game and my mix ups. The c.hp problem came from not being totally adjusted to the timing on a stick. That I think will fix itself in time (same goes for the dash cancel combos I missed).
We did spend a lot of time in the air. I’m sort of on auto pilot my self when certain things happen in matches and I just jump for no reason. I’ll work on that for sure. I really had a hard time with your footsie and pressure game. Some of your links were great too. little jealous.
If I may…try to get in some more mix ups of your own. Your pressure game is really diverse as far as I could tell but besides that I caught on to your rhythm fairly quickly (I am the same way though, but I’m working on it). i think with your pressure game where it is and a few more mix ups you’d be way too difficult to keep track of. One that I like to use when i can is c.hp>lk.roll>clp>C.O.D… The first hit of cod misses making the second one an over head hit which many won’t expect. It’s a nice mix up from c.hp to add to the rest that are out there (if you didn’t already know it.
Anyway, Northwest majors this week. I’ll take these opinions there and use what I can to keep up with the rest of the players. We should play again when I get back. thanks again man. hit me up sometime.
^^^word thanks for the tips. I never really thought about using COD’s overhead as part of a mix-up, but that’s something that can definitely come in handy. I actually spent a lot of time practicing mix-ups but then I had a string of a few days where every single time I tried one my opponent would be wise enough to get out of it so I just sort of gave up on them. My personal favorite is c.hp->hk roll->c.lp->lk roll and then whatever else after that (either a c.lp and lk roll or just a FS/Ultra with the occasional reset TT).
One mix-up I’ve tried using is c.hp f->mk but I don’t think it works very well. That’s probably because I’m not executing properly but meh whatever.
I tried hard to implement pressure patterns but as many have said I become too predictable. I told myself if I work really hard on execution and getting all the links nice and tight, creativity will come eventually. I won’t lie, I spend a buttload of time in training working on nothing but links and timing and it’s paying off. f->mk s.hp is starting to become second nature to me and what more can you ask for as an Abel player?
Anyways, hit me up any time I’m always down to play.
STRIDER: sorry about the lag today man, my internet has been really shady the last day or two but hopefully it’ll be alright eventually.
EVERYBODY: I’m totally down to play anybody, but I’m out of town for the next 10-15 days. If you see me online during that time, it’s not me (it’ll be my brothers) so don’t hate me if requests are ignored or something.
Just wanna say man, I meant to write about your execution on those links. It is really nice and tight man. I was jealous.
It’s funny, you and I start at totally opposite ends of drilling…I start off with the creative stuff and then work execution and you start off with execution and then work creativity.
The cool thing about your execution being so tight is that when somebody gives you tips for strings or links you can implement them pretty quick… so try this one as I’m having too much trouble with the execution…
c.hp>l.k roll>c.hp> l.k or m.k roll> mix up.
The cool thing about this instead of the c.lp roll mix up is that the c.hp resets them farther from you so if you choose l.k roll you land in front, if you choose m.k roll you land behind them. It’s a really deep mix up if you can get the execution down and it gives you twice the options if they pick up your tricks.
I’ll hit you up again man, it was a great few rounds. :china:
^^Yeah I’m down to play whenever. Thanks again for the kind words. Believe it or not (and I find this hilarious since you brought it up), the first mix-up I ever tried and used for a while was c.hp->lk roll->c.hp->lk/mk roll->TT. It does stupid damage and they never know what hit them because the mix-up is pretty short and quick. They just don’t bother hitting buttons because they assume you’re just going to c.hp roll FS and then BAM you do a quick little mix-up and they lose 1/3 of their health.
I actually think this mix-up is easier than some of the others because when I try doing c.lp instead of c.hp after the first roll sometimes it doesn’t come out (but that could just mean I suck haha). Likewise, when I try s.lp rather than the same c.hp/c.lp I sometimes mess up the cancel into the 2nd roll and I end up just doing a s.lk or whatever and it looks stupid.
I only stick to the some of the other lp ones because they look flashier
