I’ve yet to see an announcer that sounded the least bit confident in his knowledge in Abel. I’m pretty sure most of them think that ex roll is invincible to everything, including throws.

About Justin’s abel. It’s improved but I can’t help but think that he gets away with a lot of stuff in his style of jabs + TT because people are afraid of him. They don’t seem to realize how slow his jabs really are and are just trying to block them instead of interrupting them with their own jabs. He usually uses c.lk instead of the more frame advantage giving c.lp. Even the standard 3 frame c.lp that most chars have could interrupt him.

Still, a very good and very competitive style of abel. It’s about as safe and consistent as you can play him by saving 75% of his moves for punishes and reducing the amount of punishable moves to his TT.

heres one of me against some online balrog. not the greatest balrog but i played him a few times and he was a pest. i did pretty good this time though.

Very solid. Only thing I would say is that you blocked turn around punch twice and didn’t punish with a TT.

I’d suggest using more CR.FP/CR.MK as an anti air to his jump ins.

He basically had a free jump in every single time, except when you EX TT him out of his poke string when he landed (when you had bar).

Other than that, very solid.

I can tell you love the reset game,

I noticed that you would mash throw when he was rushing you down lol… shit like that loses games vs good players

cr.mk his jumpins also, he shouldn’t be jumping at you for free

other than that pretty nice

Thanks for pointing that out. It’s a bad habit I’ve developed while playing on xbox live. When most balrogs have a deep jump-in like that, most of them always go for a throw and the timing on teching is a lot more strict with online.

I’ll work on using cr.mk to stuff free jump-ins. Thanks for the advice.

Who here is in G1? I got finally got there and have won 2 out of 10 games!!

My Able is nothing special, I play to counter and read my oppositions games and predict what they will do next and punish them. Well that needs to change now coz Im on G1 and getting my ass wooped.

Ive noticed that EVERYONE never misses their combos, and all combos done on me are at least 4 hot combos, none of this 2 hit scrub combo shit I got in G2. Also everyones much faster, I mean they never ever stand still not even turtle (although I did get some Blankas who would just roll ball from one end of the screen). The competiton has gone up 10 fold and im choking alot.

I can do Abels COD > EX > c.hp > Ultra combo easily, I can do c.hp > Falling Sky. I admit Im shit a doing s.mk dash into TT or other combos, maybe thats the key? I dunno

Well anyways I was wondering if someone would kindly give me some advise, and link some vids of you guys playing G1 that would be great, just so I can get a feel of how its meant to be done.

Thanks

wow and you’re in G1? some keypoints:

  1. do you have good matchup knowledge?
  2. do you utilize your normals properly?
  3. are you good at teching throws?
  4. are you consistent with f.mk dash s.hp link?
  5. is your playstyle predictable?

etc etc

anyway its not all just about the combos. (the way you said things, its like if you know combos = you win)

  1. Yes I do, except for turtling Hondas and Blankas, every other charachter Im comfortable with

  2. Defo not! Recently been using s.hp in close quarters and cr.mk for anti air instead of cr.hp but thats it, which other normals should I be suing

  3. Yes

  4. No afrad not, need to practice this more but not sure when to use it, afraid of getting thrown when i go close

  5. It can be, I like doing cross up mk > cr.lk in a string then weak wheel kick or ex wheel kick… its a pet peeve lol

Id love to that marseilles roll combo but my timing is no where near that fast. I think I need a xbox live tutor lol

You need to practice it. When you do the 2nd hit of the c.fp, do the motion for the roll. How do you get to G1 without knowing this? I’m not even in G1 yet.

Ive played ALOT! Some days I play and all I get are noobs/scrubs so can easily get the full 120+ CP points hence I got to G1 quite quick. Some days not so good, get to finals and lose but still get 51 CP for that.

Like I said, Im good at reading players and countering them, thats what Ive relied on but my countering has mostly been 2 or maybe 3 hit combos. That doesnt cut it at G1 :frowning:

So staright after the 2nd hit of cr.fp I do the morion for roll but when do I press cr.lp? after hes rolled… during the roll… or just before the roll finishes?

wow very nice resets man that balrog had no idea what to do:rofl:

When it looks like you’re going to be able to hit the guy… Try training mode sometime.
This really doesn’t belong in this thread though. Go look at some streetfighterdojo matches and search this thread, way better videos than “G1 matches”.

Hey guys,

I’d really like some of you Abel’s out there to review this match I had against Dhalsim at the Northwest Majors in Seattle last weekend…I just could not get my hands on him, and when I did, he was able to back dash out of my setups. Does anyone out there have the same problem as me with getting in on Dhalsim, and then once in, staying in?

Tips, critique, anyone? Is there something that punishes or trades with dhalsim’s long range moves? Any good strings that help prevent back dash? Any good way to lock him down? Is there any way to read where he will teleport to i.e. front, back? Any good zoning techniques/tips?

Thanks guys!

Yeah Ive fought a few good Sims and they owned me for free (lol sabin perfected me)haha. Based on the video I do think you need to block properly more(you crouched to much, and ate his j.hp). I dont think its a good idea to jump in against him neither, especially when he has super lol. Random wheel kick from afar is a no-no too since that move is slow as hell and he has all the time in the world to react to it.

Ways to get in against Sim(easier said than done though):

  1. properly timed roll (proper strength too, you were rolling into his yoga flame tho)
  2. focusing his limbs (either dash in or try to get a crumple - didnt see you do this)
  3. ex cod

after a f.mk dash, you can try s.hk to keep him from jumping away, not sure about teleport though… and yeah, you need to up your blocking game. thats all i have to say hehe.

p/s- both of the links you provided are the same lol (but ive found the 2nd vid)

I noticed that he would just backdash during his wakeup for free ALL the time, have you tried rolling behind him right before he wakes up to fuck up his inputs? You can then TT him or w/e, just dont let him get away after a knockdown… you worked too hard to knock him down and he just gets away from you that easily.

Also, if you anticipate a backdash you can just wait a bit then CoD him at the end of his recovery, its a free knockdown.

You should also cross him up as many times as possible, just keep putting pressure on him after you get in, don’t let him get away, he really doesn’t have much to deal with all of Abels bullshit knockdown games.

You have to stay on Sim like he killed your mom, can’t give him room to breath.

WTF does that mean!? U spekin ze englis?

Its been awhile since I last played championship mode. Some vids I took today:

I think maybe I need feedback on my matches against honda and seth(the one i lost), and that annoying Ken(though its proly just my shitty reaction/execution) lol

You did fine for that Seth, you just messed up the Ultra thats all. Ive met many Seths that play just like that, I just sit back and wait for openings
