Point taken - and this is why the Abel forums are dope. Good shit MagMan - thanks for the insight
also, CoD is not slow enough that somebody can punish it on reaction unless they already know its coming and even then I’d say 80% of players will still not be able to do anything about it, if they wait to see the CoD first. also, if you space CoD right by the time it reaches your opponent it is 100% hitbox up front and there is no chance you will get thrown out of it.
You are a Chun player too, aren’t you Mag? Later, can you throw up some of your thoughts of the match up? I was actually watching your channel to learn a bit.
Back in vanilla, I posted my thoughts on Chun vs Abel from Chun’s POV. You can find that in one of HAV’s match up threads. Abel players have been getting a lot better since then, though. I used to just autopilot on defense with back dash, and jab short short EX legs. I would rarely be in ticks because I would whore out walking jabs and strongs almost like Balrog would. But now, knowledge has been spread and there are ways around it. Everyone knows that Chun has a huge hit box during st.strong so if she whiffs you can step kick in and combo at best.
I would say the match at it’s highest level is 6-4 in favor of Chun-Li. But both players have to be extremely good and familiar with each other’s options for that to happen. Chun-Li has a lot more options on offense, and Abel deals a lot more damage on offense. The tie breaker for Chun is that she can keep Abel out in that neutral game. Abel has to constantly spend his life bar to get in, so she can take advantage of that.
As far as the U.S. goes, I’m pretty sure people will find it close to 5-5 than anything. She’s annoying to deal with as Abel, but you can snatch her and do huge damage.

Comments, please.
Chun’s still one of those matches I have to learn, I suppose. Along with Claw, Elf, Blanka (to an extent), and Dictator.
Back to watching videos, reading up, and training rooms. Sigh.
I don’t think there’s any reason to start a match with a wheel kick; it’s unsafe on block unless you hit with the tip of Abel’s hitbox, and I think Blanka and still slide to hit you.
You seem really focus happy at the beginning of the match. Chill on that. You seemed to do better later, but it’s worth noting.
Blanka balls can be punished on block by U1, dash > s.lk, or dash > f+mk. Electricity can be beat by lp TT at max range, or EX TT.
Your f+mk > block string > f+mk chain in the second round was pretty sexy. Figured that’s worth noting. ;p
You probably know this, but Blanka’s ultra has to be blocked high, then low, then high or low. You can also roll through it if you want to try that, but it’s easier just to block, take the chip, and punish.
When Blanka does that hop-mix up shenanagins, I’m not sure what to suggest. Crouch teching seems to have helped me, but I haven’t played against many solid Blankas.
Good shit on your links. You seem solid for the most part. But you gotta work on your AA; he jumped in on you safely nearly every time.
That’s all I can suggest. Good stuff, though.
Thanks for the comments.
Any tips for anti airing blanka?
As for things such as start-up wheelkick and things like that, i knew the player and some of his habits and he starts jumping a lot, i was trying to get him.
Dash --> f.mk i can never land on blanka. But i was trying to dash s.lk lots of times but i wasnt gettint it. As for the ultra, i punished a hell lot of 'em in the first set.

This is the winner finals. That was the grand finals. I’m working on getting the finals to youtube.
Thanks !
For dash > f.mk, input
:r:
:r:+:mk:
:r:
Negative edge should give you a dash, then a dash canceled f+mk. You might have to put in one more :r:, but try it in training mode.
As for anti-air, that’s something you just have to sort of learn on your own. I like FS for empty jumps, EX FS or cr.hp for jump ins, or cr.mk for jumps that try to land in front of me. I’m not good enough with AAs to help much. ):
Have you tried c.hp on blanka? It loses most of the time. C;mk is great in some occasions. And ex fs is too situational as well. I prefer to block his stuff and only go for aa when i’m sure. Unless im going for a c.hp trade.
r u sure that works? negative edge only works if the move counts as a special move and f.mk is a normal move, so i’m not sure.
First of all, congrats on winning the tourney.
I dont have much to say, you did well though I guess you had quite a few jump ins that werent punished properly by the Blanka player. To be honest, the blanka did miss a few opportunities to punish your whiffed moves (e.g. whiffed st.hp)
Blanka’s air attack moves are good, most of the times the best thing to do is block or roll away… then again you can try using j.lp/hp/ex fs instead of j.mk. You probably can use close st.hp to deal with his crossup attempts (e.g. 1st round, around 20-25sec mark)…
You also got away with a free reset combo into ultra. The blanka seemed like didnt know how to deal with resets stuff imo.
@6:25 - after you got a crumple, you did s.hp cod fadc cr.hp fs… its a waste of meter imo plus you need to consider damage scaling too, a cr.hp fs combo would be sufficient imo.
Overall you did start a little bit sloppy but definitely got better. Good stuff with nailing the links. I dont have much confidence to use cr.lp st.hp or cr.lk st.hp against blanka because of his hitbox, but hey you nailed em in the matches, good stuff.

This is probably the best video reference I have for the Abel/Blanka match. I forgot s.mp stuffs Blanka Balls.
The input is

I didn’t know if the extra :r: was needed, but it is.
And, as I said, I’m not too good with AAs. Can’t really help you much there. I’m still trying to learn myself.
so okay now some of my vids against boxer when i was back in Malaysia the other week… Had quite a few wtf moment and dropped combos(cr.mp xx lp cod failz :shrugs:)…

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Very much !
I have some more videos coming up from the tourney, and i’ll post them.
Thx for the comments hfz69, a friend of mine said the same thing you said, he said ‘he could’ve ultra’d you on all your st.hp punishes, you’d be fried’.
But hey, he didnt. Im glad i have srk and you guys to learn before anyone does it >D

It’s teams [one match and out] so you need to skip a bit but it’s a good enough set of games to watch the whole thing.
I believe you dont have to block low at all against Blankas ultra. I thought you could block high the whole time. Am I wrong?
Yes. First hit (the ground smash before he bounces up as a electric ball) has to be blocked low. Second hit high… last hits high or low, but I always block it low just so I feel better

This is a GREAT FUCKING MATCH.

Against a bison, for me it was the hardest match in the tourney.
Poor Juicebox. I’m sure he was hella frustrated. Art’s spacing is just plain fucking evil.
