True.

Same side cr. fp. Crossing up, st. fp/mp, or cr. jab/short. Cr. fp is not meaty on cross up…
-
St. fp is the absolute best option because it costs no meter so it’s always readily available in that situation plus mix up after and meter gain as well. Although EX FS is good too. There are no 99% guaranteed mix-ups, 50% at best.

Safest? Block then late tech.
That Ryu write-up was from Vanilla. And, honestly, it was wrong, even for that. Abel definitely beats Ryu, and it’s kinda free.
I’m not doing any more write-ups, ask Strider in his thread. He definitely knows the fight… though he probably won’t respond for a few weeks, at this point.
What’s the best way to deal with neutral jumps from a bit farther out, around sweep range and farther? Does Abel have to either let them go or do some crazy dash ups into FS/c.MK/s.HP?
What I like to do (when I’m not in step kick/s.lk range or in their face) is keep them at the exact range I know cr.mk will anti-air them, if they’re THAT far away just let them neutral jump, if they jump in on you anti-air free mix-up off c.mk
air to air them with either jump hp, mk, lp, mp, hk… yeah anything
How do you do this?
And can it only be done on wakeup?
thats called armor cancelling. it has been discussed plenty of times in different threads. maybe try using the search forum function?
and no, it can be done during other times too.
Started using jump forward Roundhouse, ya… forget jump fierce…
This normal comes out just as fast… has fewer active frames, but does more damage and gives the same mix-up opportunity.
I just realized, you are a bigger dick than me and HAV put together when you post…
what’re you talkin about… HFZ is the nicest fellow I’ve met so far…
why you hatin?
lol i didnt mean to be a dick… i just didnt have the time to elaborate at the time so i let him know what the technique is called so he can maybe use the search thread function (or am i the only one using that function when i wanna look for something?)…
fuckin internet… so easy to be a dick unintentionally
You do that by cancelling the earliest frame of EX COD into another move. The technique is usually called armor cancelling and not only exclusive to abel (anyone with armored special moves can do it iirc)
For example you can do qcf+pp~kk(or qcf+pp qcf+kk, have to be really quick and the cancelling timing is kinda strict) to do an ex armor into ex roll to deal with OS safe jumps where if you do only ex roll, they can grab you etc.
Or armor cancel Tornado Throw/EX TT against meaty dive kicks.
Hit the training mode and test it for yourself. I think you can even youtube “armor cancel” and find something.
abel is looking good to add to my list of proficient players.
Yeah thanks man! I wasn’t to lazy to use the search button but I just didn’t knew what name to search. Its not that hard at all to do on wakeup but I can’t seem to pull it of against fireballs though.
If i cant react off a blocked stepped kick, do i need to consider switching mains? i’m a casual player looking to get better, good enough that i could be able to hang w/ an average tourney player.
Before the step kick, i commit to the follow up. Most of the time i go w/ FP,CoD, just b/c everyone (online) expects TT after. If i feel like theyre conditioned for the FP then i switch it up, but i can never react off the block or hit for that matter. This week im going to hit training mode and put the dummy on random block, but if i cant manage to react, should i drop Abel?
we’re all human mang…
I think we all mess up sometimes.
Should you drop Abel if you** can’t react to step kick hitting or blocking?**
That’s a silly question…
If you’re just a casual player or just starting off, it’s foolish to expect yourself to be able to do something like this without training.:china:
You will be able to do it eventually if you keep practicing…
Training mode + random block = Good thinking:tup:
I’d say Abel’s learning curve is kinda dense IMO.
Things like these (reacting to hit or block) are gonna come up more and more as you improve yourself gradually and try to master different techniques so I’d say to stick with Abel if ONLY if you’re willing to take time to practice a good deal…:shy:
I’m not anything special myself. Used to be the same but after a while you’ll know if you’ve hit or not based on a sound of bloked/hit alone without realizing it.
Splurgendii, Omnikaze- thanks for the advice! I just wanted to follow-up, just in case my question might be relevant to anyone else in the future. I am getting better at reacting off of hit/ block step kick. Its definitely slow going though. Also i should mention i’m much older than the average poster here, so my reflexes aren’t what they used to be. if i can get enough practice in, i think its possible i’ll be able to do it somewhat consistently.
I have been playing SSFIV for awhile now but I really suck. So I finally decided to actually learn and play. So I picked Abel. I have been able to perform
his f+mk > dash cancel > s.hp xx fierce CoD and c.mp > LP. COD > FADC > c.Hp > U1 about 1 out of 3 times somtimes more. I believe the s. hp after the dash cancel is a 1 frame link is this correct? My second questions is on the second combo I am working on is the c.hp after the FADC a 1 frame link? also any advice for performing these combos is greatly appreciated.
