Well thats the thing isnt it, we don’t really know how different the DC and Arcade versions of SFZ3 Upper are do we? Since theres no easily accessible versions of either to test side-by-side.
As far as I know SFZ3 Upper for Arcade was never dumped, and I don’t know if theres a Naomi System 16 Emulator that plays GD-ROM games, not to mention the fact the ROMs were protected with a key of some sort to stop people just dumping it from RAM.
But I wonder if the Arcade version addressed the problems with the DC version?
However, DC A3 was released twice in Japan. Once as the famous “Saikyo Dojo”, and again as “For Matching Service” for online play.
The only console conversion of A3 Upper is on GBA. And I heard they put crouch cancels back in the game, although I haven’t played it enough to confirm.
hmm, that Rose thing is coming back to me…
Based on what I vaguely remember from 234343024425 years ago:
On arcade version, you can never KK roll out of the last hit of Rose’s Lv3 Aura Soul Throw .
On psx version, you can KK roll some of the time… felt kinda weird.
On DC version, you can always KK roll out of it unless the opponent is juggled REALLY high.
Doesn’t really matter… you can always mash to reduce damage, as long as it’s not your own stick you’re wrecking
Technically all the home console versions are SFZ3 Upper, since they have the extra characters, but the DC version would be the closest to the arcade version I think since its so easy to port between the DC and the naomi board. The problem is finding out what other changes were done between the DC and arcade versions.
so is it even worth learning how to play A3 on DC? that’s the only accses i have to this game and im always hearing all this negative stuff about the DC version, kinda suck’s since it’s such a great game i feel real late
See the thing is players are so used to the arcade version for competition. When capcom changed things for the console versions (mostly the DC version), most of the used tatics (crouch cancelling and such) were changed or removed which means you cant practice on the home conversions. If you plan on playing at the arcade, dont get the DCversion. If you just want to play at home, and enjoy all the console only features (world tour) then get the DC version. I hate V-isms(fighting against them are annoying, even on Kaillera) anyway so I love the DC version. A-Guy and A-Chun all the way…
Arcade perfection at its greatest.
Yessir, I was bored one night and downloaded the iso, burned it and loaded it up.
Within 5 mins, I had my friend duck so as to avoid getting hit in the head with it.
It was just too perfect for my mere mortal self to handle.
Note: It sux0redz
I own the DC and PSX versions and I swear you can tell the difference in even how the versions look!!!DC:small chars, real spritey PSX:small chars not so spritey Arcade:bigger chars, best graphics, least spritey.i didn’t mention that priorities are fucked up a little in the home versions.
Apart from the gameplay which people have already mentioned, I also noticed that the DC version doesn’t have stereo sound…even if you set the sound the ‘Stereo’ in the Options, it still comes out Mono, meaning you won’t hear the depth of the music. The PSX version had the full stereo, and so did the arcade…I know cause I have the arcade rom…
I never got to play the DC version much, but I do know all the niggly differences with Arcade vs PSX
Sprites: to increase A3 loading times, frames were cut and sprites were compressed, you can see it in the sprites when you compare A2 sprites to A3 sprites; A2 has solid colour with clear outlines while A3 seems a bit blurrier.
A3 Hitboxes were changed for a few characters, VC invincibility was shortened. The AI was dumbed down slightly as well.
as someone whos been playin arcade since early 99 and psx since the day it cameout in the states, i can say that while there are big differences the difference in dc and psx itself is huge. i cant play the dc version for shit.
I’ve found a small difference but one that’s going to have me go out and look for the ps1 version today!
X-ryu cannot cancel (interrupt) his axe-kick (Stand. RH) or his far FP into a special move. Evil Ryu can, but not normal Ryu. The PSX version can do this. Fucking capcom. If only I could have the graphics and load time of the DC version with the play mechs. of the PSX version.
