Hi all… I go by yielder in the community and have browsed a lot of other character forums and have come to the conclusion that our here Balrog one is the least-organized and least-useful for players. And I want to fix this.

Before you disagree and proceed to flame me for such a bold statement, go look at the Bison forum. Or the Makoto forum. Or pretty much any other forum. Our “Combo” and “Advanced Mind-games + Tricks” have not been updated since mid-2009. This makes me want to cry. Let me make a few threads that try to be as comprehensive as possible in combos and advanced mind-games + tricks, yeah? I’ll update them with every useful post possible in the OP lending for useful knowledge spreading throughout the Balrog community. Also, let’s have a mod label which stickies are updated for SSF4 and which are not so that readers can be sure what their reading isn’t obsolete and over a year old.

Does anyone else feel this way? Why don’t we have a thread on what makes jsMaster, PRBalrog, javits, Keno etc. higher tier rogs?

As a closing note, props to thxyoutoo for making the new matchup thread.

Combos haven’t changed.

Matchups? Apart from the new characters, most stuff is exactly the same for Boxer.
The majority of new questions related to new characters matchups can be answered in the Q&A thread.

Either way, feel free to create a new thread called “SSF4 New Character Matchup Thread”.

But it’s quite pointless to “copy+pasta” all that vanilla stuff. What changed about Ryu? Or Akuma? Or Chun-li? Or Honda? Or Blanka?.. Etc…

What you can do, is also update those matchups that had almost no info (several console characters like Gen, Sakura, etc, I believe).

Just remember that to create those threads, you don’t do it by memory. You do it by RESEARCH.
You’ll have to dig in the Q&A thread, organize all the info per character, test it out yourself, and then make the thread.

If you go Rambo, one man-army style: “I know all the matchups, I’ll make the thread myself and you folks can just add some info later and I’ll keep it updated”, won’t work. That’ll be the exact same chaos as it is now.

Wanna make the effort? That’s how you do it.
Compile the info, divide it by character, test it out, post it.

Also, remember to give credit where credit is due. If someone posted a tip first, that person gets the credit, of course. Some people contribute a lot to the Q&A thread, so you’ll see their names pop up very often.

For the vanilla characters that don’t require an update, don’t copy+paste it. Leave a link for the old vanilla matchup thread below each character. Like, Ryu, and below: Link. And then you say: “Nothing changed since vanilla. Check here for matchup info.”.

So, overall, only the matchup thread needs some updatin’.

This is probably the most important issue that needs updating.
The problem with most match-up threads on a lot of character boards is that the OP starts the thread, reserves several posts after it for space, and never updates it again. Newcomers are forced to dig through hundreds of pages for info.

Look at the dan forums, there isn’t even a single shred of good info in the first post of the MU thread.

Even in its half-completed state, the iplaywinner guides give better information.

If you start a new MU thread, I’ll commend you but make sure the format is organized, easy to follow, and please be serious about keeping it up to date. That includes reviewing the material that contributors post and not simply copying and pasting their material.

I agree with you guys, except I feel that the advanced mindgames + tricks HAVE changed in the meta game (how the general SF populus plays against a Rog these days, etc.). Crouch fierce anti-air into swing blow timed to hit them on landing messes people up. On a beefy jumpin, cr. forward combos into cr. mp. Setups for rush punishes that you FADC out of and punish their counter HARD (chun’s super you can FADC forward and be safe for a combo while Ryu’s super you have to fadc back to be safe, both after a LP rush punch, leading to them wasting all their meter.

Some of it is matchup stuff, but a lof of tricks + mindgames I feel aren’t there. Once you can dash ultra confirm a fireball 100% the way people play your rog changes DRASTICALLY I find. Stuff like this eh?

And there are more advanced combos, by far. That are useful. And resets. And corner lvl 3 focus timing into reset or jump HP, stuff like this… I would make a complete compendium of Rog combos damnit :smiley:

I’d be happy to make a new MU thread with updated information, unless someone would rather. Although a lot of matchup data hasn’t changed, there’s a lot of information that needs to be updated for the new characters, and there are a few characters where there’s no data whatsoever (fei long, rose , ryu, sakura) at least in the current thread.

fyi…we’ve got good mods. We could do with some revamping of the stickied threads, as well as if anyone would like to come up with updated threads. I remember someone wanting to make a new combo thread etc. A lot of things have stayed the same, but it’d be nice to have updated original posts…
