I have another question, I don’t feel it deserves its own thread because I already created this, and it is pretty basic…

Can I still use shoryuken after LK Tatsu with Akuma? I realise you can’t mash shoryuken in 3S so i’ve been inputting the proper command, but I’m finding that my opponent will hit the ground before the shoryuken comes out. The one time i’ve managed to do it was when my LK tatsu was juggling the character for some reason. I think they may have jumped into it or something, I can’t really remember.

When you say the quality of connection is not great, would you say its better or worse than SSFIVs online? I’d heard great things about GGPO and how people wished MVC3 would use it officially. So for you to say this, it came as a suprise.

Well, rarely have problems finding a decent connection in SSFIV. I’d imagine that the difference is that there are so few players on GGPO relatively close by (east coast), so that probably limits my ability to find a good connection. When I’m playing with someone I know who isn’t far away, it’s usually fine. I don’t know anything about how the netcode works, so I can’t talk about why or why not it is or isn’t bad from a technical standpoint.

Pick a toptier. Atleast until you learn the fundamentals of the game and feel comfortable enough to “switch down”. 3s is serious business and you don’t want to hinder yourself when you begin. Otherwise you will be stuck in the scrub swamp for years…

Akuma ain’t too bad. He just has zero health which can become frustrating at beginner levels. Oro is somewhat viable against all of the cast except for Chun which is an impossible match-up for him. So if you know any Chun players or aim to play at the higher levels, you probably want to reconsider.

No offense but I disagree

You’re only stuck being horrible at the game as long as you choose to be by not exposing yourself to better players and actually working to consciously change how you play. It has nothing to do with character.

Ryu/Akuma/Ken are still good for teaching the fundamentals of the system that every character utilizes without having odd or confusing moves/properties. Tier or relative supposed power has nothing to do with learning. Picking chun, yun, ken, makoto, dudley, whatever isn’t going to help you when you don’t even understand why they’re strong characters.

just go with what you like but always at least try out other characters to see how their moves work/how they feel. it helps you understand the 3s system and it gives you info you need to not get hosed by everyone else in the cast.
