Hmmm, Are there any kits to make cabinets? I remember seeing this little box that plugs in your dreamcast/ps2 to an arcade cabinet. Since Im making one for a senior project, this would be VERY helpful.
They do make console-to-JAMMA converters. You can also make your own.
Yea Ive seen that converter on coin op express, But I wanna know where he got the arcade cabinet kit from. How would I go upon making my own console to jamma converter?
Hmmm. Help me out, What kind of wood would I need to get to make an arcade cabinet?
MDF is very easy to work with and still very sturdy (and heavy as hell so its authentic to real arcade machines o.O)
Ok MDF, Can I find this at a local home depot? And is it expensive?
MDF is fairly cheap. The larger the sheets you buy, the cheaper it is. Stick with either 3/4" (18mm) or 5/8" (16mm) so as not to make your cab too heavy, but keep the strength up. Avoid chipboard as it flakes everywhere and is much harder to seal with paint (meaning it will fall apart if it gets wet).
Check out ArcadeControls.com and their forums for HEAPS of examples of scratch-built cabs. Here’s one I built a few years back:

Easy enough to knock up. Mine’s a MAME cab, but you can easily buy JAMMA wiring harnesses and use real arcade monitors to make your own JAMMA cab for real arcade boards.
These days I much prefer candy cabs personally.
Ok, So I got the name of the wood im gonna use, What kind of screen should I use? And is it cheap?
probably won’t save you much to build it yourself unless you have access to all the RIGHT tools.
Used cabinets can be obtained for about what its gonna cost you to make one.
Check out my starter arcade… LOL
Damn
showing off latest cabinet I build for someone :karate:
Or
- you can just buy the UA2 kit for like only $500 from(like ikea stuff) www.mameroom.com
- get a 25" tv(like $100 now a days)
- wire the panel for ps2 and use ps2 to dreamcast, xbox,pc,whatever converter
- get a modded xbox with all the capcom fighthers, neogeo and all the shit(everything runs full speed)
- get a dreamcast for marvel and cvs2
EVERYTHING under $1000:nunchuck:
First off, excellent work, Second off, how can I obtain some side art like that? what is it? where can I buy it? (you?). third off excellent work!!!
hey thanks !
I put the artwork together in photoshop and had www.mamemarquees.com print it on self adhesive laminated photopaper. If you want you can have mamemarquees print these out for your cabinet or have me design something with different characters or whatever.

Question for snaake
Say I wanted to get Hokuto no Ken into a cabinet, what would be the best way to do it? does it absolutely require a high res monitor?
I’m prepared to spend the 900USD for the kit but, but I’m kinda stumped on the cabinet compatibity? maybe you could shed some light on it for me.
“Hokuto no Ken” for what ?? standard jamma board or … ??
Hakuto no Ken runs off Sammy/Sega Atomiswave. It has a user-selectable output mode for either 15KHz CGA/JAMMA, or 31KHz VGA. You can use either monitor.
Like Guilty Gear, Hakuto no Ken is actually drawn/rendered at 640x480, and looks miles better on a 31KHz screen. Unlike, say, Battle Colloseum and the new Metal Slugs which still use low-res sprites, and look better on a 15KHz screen IMHO.
Atomiswave board and cartridge, I believe that Atomiswave is jamma but I don’t know if the game requires a high res monitor or different connections. I’m gonna go do some research.
thnx… so its jamma, can I easily stick it into an old SF cabinet
According to elvis the board outputs both CGA and VGA so yeah you can use it on any standard jamma cabinet.
