Thanks to Nagata and all the tourney directors.
Thanks to psycho for the vids record/uploads, yay, now I can see how scrubby I really am.
Still can’t believe how my scrubby self could make it so far, so I special thanks to random rey for withdrawing (hehe).
Best match of the night was when YellowS4 busted out the Rolling Thunder. Too good.
GGs everyone.
it had to be done =p
it’s not like you can’t get out of it. Rae found a way but it was already the final match of the finals.
if he discovered it one game earlier (or any of the 10 matches of grand finals) the loop would have been rendered useless.
Gerjay, you should have tried using Polymer gimmicks!
Fun day yesterday.
I was shocked at the turnout. I was expecting a really small tourney with maybe 10 people a tourney. Most tourneys had double that.
Congrats to Rey for finally winning a tourney. YOu’ve been close for so long and its about time you got there!
Good stuff to Jay Wang for taking it to me in losers. I definitely deserved the asswhipping for the bracket thing… I swear I didn’t do it on purpose!
Ggs to everyone I played. Hope this can lead to a lot more tournies.
Damnit…I never got a chance to show off my crappy Rock Band vocals…
First and foremost, gg’s to everybody and thanks for coming out. I had a lot of fun at this tournament and POWNZ seems like a good venue to hold these kinds of monthly tournaments.
Shout Outs:
WB/Jamie: Thanks for getting the ball rolling with the signups, handling the money, making the brackets cough* rigged cough ;), etc. The tourney would not have happened without you there.
Guy Who Brought the Laptop: Sorry I forgot your name but having access to a compy is killer during a tourney. Thanks for being trusting enough to bring that. I am going to make a leet spreadsheet in excel for us to use at the next tourney. It will save an enormous amount of time and headaches, making organizing very simple.
**Brett: **Thanks for filming all of the final matches for the games. Looking forward to seeing it all online! Sorry to see your tripod was a pos.
Tournament Organizers: Thanks for running your respective tournaments. Everything went smoothly so thanks again!
** My Comments on POWNZ**
Based on Nagata?s description of this place to me I was envisioning a brand new, pristine venue with state of the art equipment and seating. An absolute gamers? dream come true. However my initial thoughts after stepping foot into the store were: dark, cold and glorified ?basement?, all located in the wonderful ghetto of downtown Hamilton!
But please understand that I am not stating this as if it is a bad thing!
The staff present on Saturday (Chris, Kelly, et al) more than make up for any tangible short comings of the gaming center. There were numerous of instances when I made a request for something to be done and the staff who I spoke to dropped everything they were doing at the time to make sure I was their first priority. I was given the feeling that the POWNZ staff would lie, cheat and steal for GTASF if it came down to it. This is how good they are.
/end sack riding.
This is extremely satisfying from an organizers point of view as in the past I have had experiences with greedy arcade owners cough orbit, VA, VF, STC, etc cough who want a share of the pot, don?t repair sticks and in general are just difficult to work with. The staff at POWNZ are all gamers themselves which speaks volumes as they understand and can appreciate our concerns as a community.
Either way, I was extremely satisfied with the first GTASF event at POWNZ and look forward to many other events in the future. It gets the job done and is great spot for a month tourney.
Concerns for Next Time:
Too Dark:
I am not sure about this, maybe it is a ?gamer? thing to play with all the lights off? I just personally like having the lights on when I am playing games or watching tv. shrug.
Too Cold:
Did POWNZ forget to pay their heating bill? It was hella cold in that place.
Not Enough Chairs!:
The staff did their best to fix this but even 2 or 3 extra folding chairs would have been nice. IMO, the couches on the big screen lcd tv?s should be used for player seating (it is alot easier imo to play with a stick your lap while sitting on a couch than a chair/stool) and the folding chairs should be prioritized to any station that requires the joystick to be placed on a flat surface (desk, table top).
**Short 1 TV?: **
The station where we had my Dell monitor with the Dreamcast setup was a ?temporary" station. Does this mean for future events GTASF will have to always bring a TV/Monitor to fill this station? (Lugging around screens is a pain in the ass).
edit: I know parts of my post don’t concern most of you but I wanted to post it here for everyone to see. I plan on registering on the POWNZ forum so that we can communicate with the employees and are able to receive the feedback.
You know, I really thought you turned over a new leaf. Jackass.
Good games everybody. Thanks to all the organizers and people that helped make this tourney happen. I was there for nine hours and didn’t get bored once. Lots of good competition and entertaining matches to watch
I guess if you want to get anywhere in TvsC you have to use Karas, since the top 5 all used Karas. I still can’t believe my little bro took 4th in it, even though I was expecting a lot of counter measures against Karas, yet I saw the complete opposite.
Also, to the guy I was having Marvel casuals with in that room near the begining of the tourney, I think it’s safe to say you would have taken first if the Low Tier tourney actually happened(Sorry I didn’t get your name:rolleyes:). There was some really crazy stuff you were doing with all those characters, and your Jill was really annoying!
This was my first tournament that I played with you guys, and I must say I really enjoyed the heavy competition. I should really pick up my slack and start practicing though.
honestly if you want to get good at the game you need to learn about the basics first.
picking A-groove top characters when you can’t do the cc is kinda pointless. If you want to cc, take some time and learn it in training mode. You’ll eventually get the hang of it. If for some reason you still want to learn this game, start with C or K groove and learn to zone first. Then learn RC, then learn CC setups.
. And also bring your own pad (BYOP) LOL
Good shit for you getting top 2 in STHD! I had nothing to do since A3 got scrapped and STHD/TvC finished so I recorded whatever casuals or close to finished. Thanks to Mtran66 and Amordien for lending me memory stick pro duos. STHD should be up by the afternoon.
Here are 14 casual TvC matches I was able to tape, I’m the only one not using Karas:
TvC top 8 are being uploaded now.
20 matches up so far. (EDIT: all top 8 have been uploaded, now.) After top 8 is up, I’ll upload the rest of the tournament and some of the casuals.
A couple of highlights:
A brief amusing moment where a fireball gets caught between two Karas reflectors:
Winners Final game 5 was a good game:
I still love you.
Thanks for the upload guys
