A hot tip for good online play in SF5 :)

You call American speeds potato and you post numbers like that?

It’s not speed. Internet has been plenty fast enough for a while. It’s the interference and potential for dropped packets.

Never mind fuck it. Not doing this…nope

Even though it doesn’t matter like Plaid said, I’m near Washington DC with 80Mbps upload. Probably helps a bit if you have a lot of people watching you stream though.

I’ve always thought that streaming while playing could have a bad impact on the match since your computer/console has to communicate with another server (e.g. twitch) at the same time but I’ve never seen a study about it.

When I play, I also stop all the (online) applications running on my other consoles/computers connected to the internet.
As mentioned above, connection speed has nothing to do with lag during matches since you only send small packets. Another important factor is ping, but it is related to wired/wireless since wireless (usually) results in higher ping.

Are these speeds supposed to be fast? My cable company’s standard speed is 100 mbps.

Thanks, I edited my post once more, it’s all good now. There we go.

it makes you even more of an idiot…?

EYO
your fucking up/down speed means virtually NOTHING when it comes to gaming.
but keep on measuring your dicks kids.

Streaming doe

I intend on playing on wireless with tons of downloads and uploads going while I play and also I’m going to put my router into a steel safe before each login.

I can drive your router around your neighborhood for you, should reduce packet loss.

Would buying a Powerlink Adapter be a good choice to switch from Wireless to Wired? I would like to be able to keep Wifi functionality for my Laptop & other devices, but have a wired connection for my PS4.

Would I have to buy something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWRUICG?ref_=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_i

My wireless router has multiple Ethernet cable ports, so could I also just use a spare Ethernet cable to plug into an open port to initiate a Wired connection to my PS4 while keeping my Wireless connection to my other devices?

yes. Do that.

No, it’s as bad as wifi.

Buy a cat 6 ethernet cable such as this one (or even better, a cat 7 or cat 8). It’s better than usual cat 5 cables.
And yes, you’ll still be able to use wifi with your other devices. Besides, don’t forget to set your PS4 to “wired” because it will connect you to wifi by default if you just plug in the cable.

For anyone that says that they can’t get Ethernet in their room, I’d HEAVILY suggest that you get a DLAN Ethernet connection.

Basically you wire up an Ethernet cable from router to an adaptor and plug said adaptor into the electrical outlet.
Then you plug the 2nd adaptor into the outlet close to your PC and wire it up.
!!!make sure none of the adaptors are plugged into a powerstrip, it makes the performance drop significantly!!!
Luckily most DLAN adaptors have an outlet on them themselves, so you can plug your powerstrip in there if you really need it. From my experience, that doesn’t effect the performance. Only if you do it the other way around.

I paid about $65 and it came with the cables already, so that was nice.
Do us all a favor and don’t risk bad connection. Coming from someone that has 0.7 mbps Upload speed, I know what I’m talking about. It gets rough :frowning:

So basically I don’t need to buy the thing from Amazon that I linked to, only a “Cat 6 Ethernet Cable”? That would be a lot better and save me a little money.

Assuming that is the case, then all I would have to do is:

  • Plug the Cat 6 Ethernet cable into an empty port on my Wireless router and then directly into the PS4
  • Change the Internet Settings on my PS4 to “Wired”

Then other than my PS4 obviously, everything else I use (phone, laptop, etc.) would continue to run on a Wireless connection while the PS4 is on Wired?

Thanks for the help

Yep, you don’t need to buy a powerline adapter. You only need to buy an ethernet cable and do as you say. You’ll have all your other devices connected on wifi except your PS4.

And I edited my post, you can also buy a cat 7 or cat 8 cable, they are even better than category 6 cables. I would recommend this cat 7 cable which is not expensive.

Powerline adaptors are better then wifi. There is no packet lose and the speed is a bit more stable from my own testing. But of course if you can hardline your system do that.

I can confirm that. My powerline speed is pretty much the same as it was when I hardlined my PC.
Finally my internet isn’t effected by the other routers in my neighbourhood anymore  it good pretty bad when my new neighbours moved in.
Hardline is sadly not a good option for me, I’d have to drill a few holes into walls. Too much effort, since I want to move out in the next couple of years anyways.

MBits and what not doesn’t really factor in here. That’s your max download speed. Thats like saying how long is the cargo truck. It can carry a lot, but shit might only be doing 20MPH. Also factor in the time it takes you to call/request that truck to when it actually leaves.
Wireless is nearly always inferior. I have a WiiU 5 feet from the router and it constantly drops. It uses 5GHz for the Wii Pad, it looses signal. And the cherry on top, having the wiiU on near my Xb1 eventually kills the XB1’s wireless controller in the system so controllers cant power it on/sync up until a hard reboot.

Im in an apartment building with 40+ SSID’s floating by my window. I sures hell ran a 100 ft ethernet that people are tripping over all the time.
