A discussion about a northwest arcade

I was so pissed when Quarters shut down, that place was like a second home to me for many years. Lanwerx was cool but I never saw too many people actually using the PCs there, I think that had more to do with it shutting down than the arcade, that and it was not in a great location to get people to randomly come in. I mean seriously, for legal entry you had to drive past it, go around the block and enter it from the other side. That was fucked up.

As for the owners being greedy thing, I have a hard time believing that because of an old interview with the owner of the late Stargate here on SRK. It’s a good read for anyone to understand the business side of arcades and why nobody in their right mind will open one. It really gives me more respect for the people who are still doing it even now.

That said, Gameworks is something of an exception because of how it came to be. And yeah there’s really no excuse not to keep cabs in good condition if you’ve got someone there to work on them.

If only we had the clientele that the California scene has.

but even if they’re not greedy – there’s dumb.

You don’t put your most popular game (SF4) backing into nowhere where nobody else can play anything else while they watch. I’ll never be able to fathom that. Excuse me, I’m going to go make the Iditarod trek to MvC2 on the other side of the GameWorks world now. :wtf:

Or I’ll play Third Strike fifteen feet outside of the viewing area for SF4 so people jack my turn accidentally. =\
