OK, i have watched the video and analyzed it. i will provide notes and the timeline of what i thought were notable. please understand, i do not main hakan or rufus, or in any way consider myself an expert at this game. far from it actually. i do consider myself being a technical player. i like to break down the game and its mechanics. i believe i have played this game enough and have a good understanding of the fundamentals of the game to validate my analysis.
game 1
round1
0.05 - unsafe ex oil by hakan. rufus drops link for combo punish. hakan jumps back to reset distance but then does fierce slide (possibly to get in?). gets stuffed with a counterhit fierce. hakan tries it again (unsafe on block -17). free punish for rufus (would have liked to see a bnb combo instead of burning meter).
0.16 - wakeup ultra 2 by hakan. tried to bait an instant dive kick. doesn’t get punished too hard.
0.26 - hakan backthrows rufus into corner. ex shower xx duck to make it safe
0.32 - rufus sees first divekick blocked. goes for instant divekick > target combo > ultra 1
rufus wins first round
round2
0.53 - i like the start of this round. rufus throws out his furthest poke to catch hakan walking forward. hakan jumps back ex oil shower, doesn’t cancel to duck, gets punished.
1.08 - hakan lands cr. jab reset into oil dive. rufus was ducking during the cr. jab but stands afterwards which is why the dive works.
1.17 - hakan lands ex spd while oiled. (while oiled the ex and normal version startsup in 3 frames, at this range im sure he didn’t need to burn the meter). follows up with light oil.
1.29 - hakan gets pushed to the wall. lands a forward grab. (should have thrown into the corner). whiffs an attack and performs a late oil. (may be an execution error)
1.38 - first time hakan uses cr. short x 3 string. (can only perform while oiled)
1.42 - hakan does lk oil and spd rufus on his wakeup. (i’m sure he used jab spd. should have use fierce to close the round)
hakan wins second round
round3
2.02 - OK this is nice. rufus sees jump in and reacts with dat fragrance palm. GODLIKE! then punishes hakan ex dive with roundhouse.
2.08 - hakan throws rufus into corner. doesn’t cancel ex oil, gets punished with fierce.
2.18 - rufus dive kicks in to close distance, gets stuffed with jab. then ex messiahs to get in (hakan just got ultra 2). rufus dive kicks into hakans ultra 2
2.34 - hakan ex oil full screen. jumps back then slides. rufus punishes late, burns meter to keep it safe.
2.50 - rufus lands target combo into ultra 1. walks in to close distance for follow up.
3.00 - hakan puts everything on the line with wakeup ex spd and wins first game.
note: rufus had life lead after the ultra 1. he could have stayed back. hakan only had 2 meters. his best option would be to slide and fadc (which hakan never used throughout the entire first game). by staying back he could have baited oil and punished with fierce like he had done so a few times. but since he walked forward his best option would be to dive kick, it will stuff out all of hakan’s wakeup and if he backdashes he can react with ex messiah. hakan did not have meter for ultra 2 so he goes for broke with wakeup ex spd. (in his un oiled state, all spd come out in 3 frames, but ex has more range)
game 1 hakan
game 2
round1
4.08 - rufus blocks slide, but misses punish.
4.16 - rufus blocks slide, lands punish
4.22 - rufus drops combo, galactice tornado -1 on block. ex messiah to bait poke. hakan forward throws, ex oil followup. hakan jumps back then slides (unsafe without meter). rufus punishes properly on block.
4.44 - hakan baits ex messiah but doesn’t block the follow up. rufus closes round with ex messiah which is his best choice. (if he had dive kick hakan could have reacted with ultra 2)
rufus wins first round
(end of video)
in this video you can really see the lack of matchup knowledge. the rufus player should be holding down back for most of the game. should be baiting for the slide especially since the hakan player did not FADC once to make it safe. block the slide and punish accordingly. there are times when he burns the meter for ex messiah to get in. if anything, save it for when you need to get out. hakan deals most of his damage up close (spd and slide combos). play the game and set the pace so that its in favor for yourself.
you have to be able to read your opponent. know what their options are, limit them, and make it more advantageous for you.
many times the hakan player would oil up, jump back and slide. this tactic is unsafe and didn’t pay off. if hakan is going to jump back to gain distance, use the spacing to stack oil (which the hakan player never used). in this version of the game its probably hakans greatest buff, i believe he can stack up to 15 seconds. oil state changes the properties of hakans moves, use that to your advantage. don’t always rely on specials. slide and spd are only a few of his tools, his normals become quite good especially after oil. (ex. fierce and roundhouse)
im not sure what the result of this set was as the video was incomplete but i can assure you the game would have been much more different had these two players had a better understanding of their characters and the matchup. with that said, i hope you guys appreciate the time it took for me to write this and if you have anymore questions feel free to post up or ask me in person at the next session.
