Running a Japanese style tourney is cool and all, but it’s easy to get randomed out. Does it make sense to assemble a 5v5 team based on who wins a Japanese style tourney?

yes for 3 reasons:

  1. getting randomed out is not an excuse for top players imho. can japanese get randomed out? there not gods, we just limit ourself with excuses like getting “randomed out” or “i went for dp and it didnt come out”. in all reality who’s at fault for all those excuses? the opponent? Fuck outta here. its either get our mind right or wait in back of the line!

  2. like the 5v5, you have match and one chance to prove yourself worthy or worthless.

3.this will teach all of you to stop bull shitting with excepting leeway

That makes sense. 5v5 is one game per person, so might as well replicate that format as close as possible.

The other reasons are arguable.
