7 Minute Saikyo: Dan General Discussion Thread

Erm… wha?

Did you mean j.MK (cross-up) > c.LP xx Gadouken/Kouryuken? Or using c.MK xx Gadouken/Kouryuken as another option after the cross-up?

Well firstly c.LP does not combo with Gadouken. Secondly never use Kouryuken in a combo, it’s unsafe and there’s always a better option.

If you have a free jump in, i.e. know it will hit, if close enough use s.HP xx HK Dankuu or at a further distance c.MK xx Gadouken or EX Dankuu if you have meter.

After a cross-up I always go for s.MP/s.HP xx HK Dankuu just because I’m hoping they won’t block it, no big deal if they do and you’ll always be close enough for them.

With the j.LK cross-up the only thing you can combo off it is a s.LP/c.LP xx Kouryuken or EX Dankuu but you have to hit the cross-up pretty late so it’s not at all accurate and you certainly don’t want to be throwing out uncomfirmed Kouryukens. Basically leaves you with a tick throw as your only option (offensively). Something to note is it doesn’t cross-up in the corner so you could fool someone into thinking you are crossing up with it and get a tick throw as well (hopefully).

Well yeah. I stand corrected. I was just being lazy.

Thanks Sugami for your infinite wisdom.

Joe is not knowledgeable on combos and strings

It’s okay. I usually just spam gadoukens until they walk into it.

Not necessarily true. Just because something won’t combo doesn’t mean you can’t get away with cr.lk xx lk Danku. And then the sheDanigans can really begin.

Good point, people might be expecting a tict throw in which case that will work or even if they’re just too slow to block low.

Hmm… question about c.lk to lk Danku… better to throw it after just one c.lk? Is the spacing good enough that I won’t go right over them? I have this Chun-li reflex that makes me spam c.lk, and then I end up going c.lk c.lk c.lk s.lk, lk Danku. Seems to work, if I don’t eat anything beforehand.

Depends on character, but it gives you a throw/ Danku mixup that’s actually pretty decent. You don’t get that after a lot of pokes because you’ll be out of throw range. But you can’t cancel out of s.lk into the Danku, so you shouldn’t just do it off a s.lk. You want to actually do cr.lk xx lk danku, otherwise they can just throw you out of it while they’re trying to throw tech. Note that this means that if you do it after two cr.lk’s, you have to link them, not chain them, which leaves a 4 frame window between the cr.lk’s, enough time to be thrown.

Don’t think it’s possible to link any of his light attacks :frowning:

It won’t combo, it’s a blockstring.

I’m bad with terminology. What exactly is a blockstring again?

A blockstring is a string of moves you do when you know your initial attack is blocked or don’t care if it’s blocked. A ‘true’ blockstring does not have reversal windows, and are usually chains of light normals.

cr. mk/cr.lk >lk danku, is viable because the window between the 2 moves is so small. Lk dankus hit box will avoid being stuffed on start up by most normals, so you can get away with laying pressure down this way. But dont get too repetative, they will no doubt start mashing their AA if they have it. Thats how I stop sagats from doing their bs jabbing lk tiger knee crap to pressure you, koryu them out of it a few times, and they will stop altogether. So use this type of pressure sparingly.

Say what?! his J hk crosses up in the corner?

There’s another way of getting out of it, FAing the normal and hitting before the Knee is able to connect, AI likes to do it :frowning: I don’t really expect anyone to do it though :stuck_out_tongue:

Guess the point I was trying to make is off a j.MK cross-up if it lands the rest is guaranteed whereas a j.LK it’s not but I guess that’s what mixing it up is all about :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s better and less risky if you use c.MK to go under the Tiger Knee when he does it. I’ve broken several Sagats of their Tiger Knee blockstrings entirely simply be doing repeated c.MKs to evade and punishing them with throws/combos afterwards.

Wow @ j.HK crossing up in the corner. That junk is dope.

What I want to know is, what is it about Bison that allows lk. Dankyu to cross him up. Are there any other characters that this works on?

will it avoid all incarnations of the tk? Most sagats I play that do this begin with a few pokes in close (which of course out prioritize any of dans pokes) then follow up with a tk, I’ll give it a shot next time, not sure if I can sneak out a cr.mk in this situation.

On the topic of Sagat, I had one yesterday it lagged so bad it was impossible to get in on him everything I did happened 3 seconds late against tiger spam this is like impossible (it was seriously some of the worse lag I ever encountered) round 2 I just sat there didnt do anything and let him win. it wasnt worth the effort of trying to win.

9 times out of 10 when I get a really laggy match (despite seeing 3+ bars at first I never acceot games below that) its gief, sagat, dhalsim, or seth. Oddly all characters that can thrive in a laggy environment.

For example in laggy gief games, it seems the background processes are behind the animation on the screen, I somehow get grabbed by gief when I am in no fucking way within the range of his goddamn throw. Sagats with tiger spam, blocking doesnt register in time and jumps are all jacked up dan kneed comes out all fucked up and they are just spamming tigers tu. tk. Sim and seth just spamming long range pokes fb’s again, abusing your inability to block on reaction and jump properly. Fuck it, aint worth it, just let em win. It does seem an odd coinkydink, that most laggy games are with these characters (or maybe its not coincidental and they induce lag.)

Yeah guess you’re right about spammy Dhalsim and Seth but any advanced tactics from either of them needs as little lag as possible, doing Seth’s 2-frame link in lag isn’t nice :frowning: Played a friend from the Sakura section, lag sucked so bad it negated Seth’s Sonic Boom ~> Ultra trap :frowning: I even tried predicting the jump and mashing out PPP well before but it still came out too late :frowning:

Happy Birthday to fellow Dan player, me. Just to throw it out there.

But seriously, lets take a moment to remember today.

Happy b-day, many saikyo returns of the day.
