I talked to D today after you left, Tak. He says the guy there playing MVC2 was in fact named Dave and that he’s from Boston, but lived in Ottawa for bit. I think he mentioned it was a different Dave from the one you were thinking but beats me guy.
So in more important news, I’m gonna throw a 3s tournament.
Details:
where: OU games room, University Centre/Jock Turcot building (they’re one and the same) Basement.
When: 6-8ish pm for registration, tournament shortly after. Potentially earlier if I anticipate a huge turn out. I have planned for the 29th of October, but I’m worried ya’ll got halloween parties to attend. which I doubt. So at the moment it’s the 27th of October. If half of you can’t make it I’ll push it back to the 1st friday of November.
How: Console. I’ll try and get some TVs and ask anybody with a PS2 + 3s/SFAE to bring one. If you can, bring a TV. If you have a PS2 + game bring that as well. Bring your own stick and your own pad. If you don’t have a pad. Find someone to borrow one. Unless you’re me. If I played I’d just borrow whatever pad was there. But I probably won’t play. Equipment still isn’t organized. So I’m giving myself 3 weeks to sort that shit out.
Cost is 5 bucks entry. Prizes are undecided. I’m thinking:
1st 50%
2nd 25%
3rd 10%
winner takes a percentage of the pot.
I’m not sure how many people will come, it’s basically a taster tournament to gauge interest levels. If it’s high enough I’ll do prizes for top 8. But only if I’m looking at a big enough turn out (30+ peoples).
Format:
I’d like to do small pools + brackets. Basically, i put you in pools you play round robin between 4-6 guys I then seed all of you into brackets. But I’m unsure at the moment. Size dependent. Double elim brackets otherwise. If there’s too many people I just might do a giant single elim bracket. best 2/3 rounds/game, best 2/3 games/match.

anybody who’s interested. Also, everybody who may not love 3s but plays fighting games. Basically bigger turn out = more fun = bigger community = better tournaments. So yeah, tell people who’re interested. Spread the word. Cause Ahmed’s like console = TV = even unhappier Brian and Bob (aka howison owner boss guys) = we don’t tell them = no posters/advertisments etc.

it’s on the 27th of October Friday night show up at around 6-7. Earlier is better. If I fill out an ideal bracket 8/16/32 etc. at 730 I’m gonna start it then.
It’s on console and nobody is required to lend you a stick. Bring your own. or play pad. If I had this on arcade. I’d put it on arcade. But we gots no board.
Bring equipment. If you have an extra TV, bring that along, cause currently there’s two. and a couple additional ones would be smoother.

Ull get a better turn out in that game than T5.
Round robin format might be good for small tourney. To be honest I dont think you are going to get a large tournout.
Also, it’s funny that 15% of the pot disappears.
I would recommend 70/20/10. More incentive to win first = more incentive to join people who are undecided.
Imo it’s a bit late to startup 3S tourneys in ottawa - I wont be attending as I have no interesting in playing this game at any competetive level.

WTF happend here?? the 4 machines taped up are XVS, Soul2, pinball and dragon quest i think, CVS2 cabinet is no where to be found. the door glass at the back entrance is cracked also. I was told by the repair guy at Algonquin College that the machines were put away for some teacher who was complaining about them (kind of ridiculous if you ask me) and that the games who be back up by today.
I was at school today and they indeed back up. CvS2 doesnt have a fierce button on the 2p side.
Does anyone have a contact with Howison because we really should ask them to tone the damage down on some games. 2nd impact would be much better…MvC2 and CvS2 as well.
They’ve been contacted and complained to. They decided that on popular machines higher damage settings was ultimately a better descision than increasing the prices to fitty cents.
At any rate. With any luck we’ll be replacing the NG board at UO to 3s. Like, not even luck, more like just enough pressure. Ahmed told me today that Brian would try and find a used one. Failing that we’ll be giving him a board to install on it. He can’t even complain on that scenerio. No strings no risk with a huge increase on potential sales. Except that his 2i machine will stop making money. But that’s how life goes.
