(604) BC players, marvel/cvs2/third strike tournament thread!

you guys suck. especially tao. he’s cheap. he blocks everything i throw at him.

jz’s today - 3-5

Me? a coward? hardly. You have to understand that your skills on DC are useless. they seriously are USELESS. nobody in BC plays on DC. its like being able to play Atomic Punk on your SNES, but not at the arcades!!!

for some reason, i seirously think that you think because you WILL probably beat me on DC when i use Jap sticks, that it would mean you are better than me… but you know what? Fine. lets get this thing over with. after you beat me on DC, and feel better about yourself, i will humiliate you at JZee’s. but, that still wont make a difference, because we will BOTH use the same excuse. the joysticks, and thus, the whole match would become useless. Gimme the weekend to practice on Jap sticks, and we can play on Monday, if you really wanna go into this useless money match.

Tariq, no need to convert them into video files with your UBER editing powers =P, cause they will just be a waste of time… DC will be me being beasted, and at Jzee’s will be him being Beasted. no real point actually.

apparently, waiting to get a better stick, makes me a coward. i NEVER want to be called a coward, so i guess ill have to lose on sticks i cant use, and win on sticks i can. pretty stupid huh. Now that i think about it… i think Mazdak is afraid to lose, so he is calling me a coward, and really getting under my skin with all of this personal crap he is spouting… so, im just gunna have to play him.

That’s a relief, I guess.
I’m quite touchy on the subject of being called gay. Let’s just say I’ve been labelled (and wrongfully accused; not that I have anything against gays) as being gay too many times in my life.

oh yeah, and before i forget, GOOD GAMES To JOON yesterday!! that was awesome… the best set ive ever played… it was so fun!

oh, and yeah, i dont care. this seems to mean to Mazdak more than it means to me. he wants to prove his place in BC… on DC… =/… so its up to him… im willing to play on Jap sticks if he really wants to, and if that will stop him from calling me a coward… ive just had enough of this pathetic taunting.

I know how you guys feel about the joysticks.

I’m extremely picky when it comes to ST. In B.C. I have no sticks to play on that I consider myself able to play my best on. Not even the ones I own.

(I am definitely in the market for a constructed Perfect 360 PS2 controller for HSFae.)

In Seattle fortunately the stick were flawless both tourneys I was in, I was really happy about them. At Loki’s afterwards though I couldn’t uppercut on the 1st player side.

If I had to play ST for money, I’d only play on something that’s exactly like what I got to use in the Seattle tourneys. Anything less that that level of execution and I would not feel as confindent going in.

Some people are better at adapting than others. In all areas, including hardware issues. I believe that the consistent tourney winners, the names you see more often than others, are players who are less likely to complain, and more willing to just adapt to the situation and keep an open mind about what is required of them for them to pull through. There’s always a new challenge.

INFIDEL!!! lol, j/k

Pork Adobo is hella good too.

As for this whole DC/Arcade thing, I think it’s time I finally put in my thoughts.

I have 3S on DC, and I litterally play the game 2 out of 3 days, for at least 1.5 hours straight. I’ve played the game to death since I got it, which was Dec 2001. I’ve been playing 3S on DC for every day the past week. I pretty much know my way around the DC version.

It is no where near arcade perfect, it is like playing a different version.

The characters are smaller, which screws up juggles. This is essential for Dudley, who I feel is pretty nerfed in the DC version.

The speed is different, I feel that it is slower than the arcade, even by a bit. This screws up throws for me.

No unblockables, which make Urien and Oro much less of a threat. It sucks because I like using Urien.

Timing is different. Yun’s GeneiJin timing is different, I honestly am surprised Tao didn’t notice it when he played. This also messes up Dudley’s juggles…some of his arcade juggles are LITTERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO on DC. That is a FACT.

No late cancels. No more late canceling with Ken’s Dwn MP and Chun’s Dwn MK.

Parry speed. On default setting on DC (which I assume it was set on), the timing is “easier” to parry on DC (you can imput it earlier, and it still results in a parry). I personally hate this, and it screws me up on DC b/c I’m used to the arcade parry timing.

The DC version is great for newbs to get a grasp of the engine and technique of the game (which is why I got it in the first place), but when it comes down to a competitive level, it is pretty much useless.

Both 3S versions on DC are the same, engine wise. I have the japanese version, while you guys were playing on the US version. The 3 only difference in the 2 versions is that: Alex still says “Jesus!” in a tick KO, Urien still bleeds in a timeout, and the respective language differences.

VINCENT: Good thoughts and highlights about the DC version. I have DC and the first time i played it like last year, I knew something is wierd and my timing is off that’s why i never practiced on it. I just practiced on the Arcade version.

its kyle.

tao do you think i would count the first few matches that you ever played on console? do you think that I would stoop that low just to say I OCV’d you? hah get fucking real buddy, it was long after u first touched that shit. “argh”

koost yea im pretty sure they’re for PS but its not me doing the work so I don’t know.

i was born in the phillipines but im not flip and i’ve eaten all sorts of flip food. adobo is okay only, cuz nagaraya nuts own you all for free… filipino mangos are owner as well… like you wouldn’t believe.

UPDATEs from THURSDAY

University of California (Berkley) (UCB) arcade is called “Bearcade”

Went there with Ouroburos, Morephiend and another one of Morephiend’s friend Annexer…

Played for abou 5 hours and there were around 7-8 people being rotated on the machine.

There was one player who played MSP CROSS HANDED (right hand on joystick, left on buttons) and DAYMN he was good!! It was pure crazyness.

I beat everyone there around the same or more times than they beat me except for one guy who had a sick sick crazy disgusting Magneto… He beat more times than 3, which is how many I beat him before he booked it…

I had a 4 win streak with Sent/Storm/Commando

6 wins with Mag/Storm/Sent

8 wins with Mag/Cable/Sent

I’d say thats representin!!

Ok, for everyone who still cares, NOBODY uses Storm’s s.hk anymore to launch, everyone uses c.hk (which makes sense) cuz it has more range, but I’m talkng EVERYONE…

The Magneto movement is nothing like I’ve ever seen… it’s a mix of good gameplay and crazy rushdown combos… very impressive… most impressive thing I saw was a Magneto fly combo in the corner… very nice touch. Would tool on the Magnetos back home… cuz Magneto/Magneto isn’t as random as it used to be.

All the top players get out of HSF like it’s nothing, even with Sentinel… which is somehing I had trouble with…

The Storms were hella good and had crazy setups and I saw a tri-jump infinite usin lk-hk which was fuckng bomb!! They are hella good with LA xx LS.

I didn’t see many Cables, but it seemed like their Cables weren’t very good… But then again, the quality of Cable has gone down, and it’s all about Sent/Storm/Mags these days anyways. I could be wrong though, but Cable wasn’t around for much of the day in general.

Sentinels were Sentinels… Lots of them could unblockable that shit very well… Solid character…

Ricky Ortiz was also there but didn’t play MvC2, he played GGXX and other shit so I dunno… I didn’t get to play him…

GOIng to SUNnY VALE GOLF LAND TODAY!!

more to come!

i’ll post again. this time, ALVIN-style.

JOHNNY ZEE’s. WEDNESDAY. 3-6. YEAH?

VINCENT:

come out this wednesday, bro.

Good shit kyle man u hold it down!
So exactly when do u pushblock on sent when he’s HSF’ing u to get out… same with blackheart =/

kyle!! good stuff, sounds like your reppin’ bc pretty well…very impressive 6 wins with mag/storm/sent…looking forward to a beatdown when you get back

anyway, was a JZ yesterday…when 2 guys showed up, asian, never seem them before. One was ok, but the other was good…thank god both of them played cable / trap styles.
I actually lost 2 or 3 matches to the good player, his cable was very solid…i was using clops as an AAA…then i switched to commando and didn’t lose again (like 6 or 7 games). It seems sent w/ cyclops aaa is weak against cable.

ahha navid holy shit relax man haah no one thinks you are a coward if you honestly are that bad on teh jap sticks. like i said before i will wait for you to get a stick you are happy to play on.

i just thought it woudl be fair since after wards i would play on sticks i suck on and get raped as well.

but you are right it makes much more sense to wait.

the only major diffrence on d.c is the late cancelling thing hah but even then if you saw the matches againts toa you can still late cancle. i was doing it with necro crouching short!,almost every super i landed on toa was off reaction and off necros crouching short.

thats why i use magnetic storm actaully it comes out fast enough to allow you to cancle off reaction.

i honestly belive it wont effect makoto though.

the only hit confrim ppl use with her is standing medium and even on d.c you have about 8 days to cancle, if you fail to cancle it links.

and im getting tired of the argument tha arcade is “better” SIMPLY becuase it came first.

so did asbestos maybe you shoudl rip out all your insulation and replace it with asbestos.

arcade is not better becuase it came first and its not better becuase youve been playing on it for longer.

a diffrent you prefare does not make that thing better.

arcade is what most who grew up playing the arcade will like.

but in my oppinion the d.c version is a much more balanced game.

unblockables are a glitch thats why they were taken out.

and since late canceling is 674873827634 timed harder on d.c it tones down ken/ chunli significantly and balances out the game.

the main diffrence between the two versions is that d.c is harder.

people dont like hard they like easy.

god forbid capcom catch all the mistake they made in there first few version of the game and fix them hah.

o no, no more unblockables how am i ever goin to win when my opponent can actaully block my moves.

you think its a coicidence that every thing that is diffrent on the d.c results in the game being harder than it is in the arcade?

so what if the games not “arcade perfect” why woudl anyone try to dupilicate a mistake perfectly ?

they would’nt and they did’nt.

but how can my logic ever compete with the ragument you guys have .

arcade is good,

arcade is arcade.

arcade was first.

I like the unblockables personally. I think they make the game better.

LTB

Miguel: I would, but can’t, leaving on vacation on Monday, and hella busy this weekend. Sorry.

The rankings character-wise are a bit screwy in the DC version, and simply having smaller characters ruins timing for ALL characters. That messes up everyone who plays the game, this is pretty much a fact.

Unblockables are yes, a bug, but an essential part of the game. That is why everyone bitches about them not being there… The litterally MAKE or break a character.

Urien loses a HUGE amount of fear because of his unblockables. Without that, he drops quite a lot in the ranking, no questions asked. And he is usually agreed upon being mid-top, so that drops him.

Oro his unblockable ability is ESSENTIAL for fighting against Ken. This is why Oro is a bit higher on the scale in the arcade, because with ONE and a half Yagou bar, he can kill Ken. No questions asked. This makes Ken even MORE of a threat in the DC version.

Link timing is screwed. That is bad. This makes all characters worse.

We all know how important timing is for 3rd Strike, which is why I say that even small timing differences are a big thing in this game. That is why the DC version isn’t good.

And about the whole joystick thing. Personally, no offense, but I find all that really really weak.

I don’t like the joysticks at JZ. Do I bitch about them? Of course I do. But will that change anything? Hell no. I just try to adapt.

People need to understand that they need to go where competition is.

I used to play KOF exclusively, back in 1998-2000/2001. I was pretty damn good with US style joysticks, but sucked major sour frog ass with those damn jap joysticks. I was playing at like 30% of my full potential. But all the KOF hongers who were good kicked ass with the jap sticks, at Richmond.

What do I do?

I bought that damn ugly ass stupid jap stick, for DC. The first 3 or so months, I SUCKED STILL with it. Takes a lot of work getting used to it, but now I’m wayyyy better with the jap stick than the US stick.

I bitch, we all bitch, but we will NEVER FIND A PERFECT ARCADE STICK AND SETTING FOR EVERYONE. I hope we all accept that.

Some ppl like a flat playing field, like me. JZ isn’t flat, it’s at an angle. That sucks for me. Whoop de do. JZ is really tight and I need to use a lot of force. No one gives a damn. Movieland’s sticks are good for me, but there is no room to play when fighting someone else. Gay, but that’s the way it goes.

I’ll tell you the truth, that in fact my best playing joystick is on KEYBOARD.

Not shitting you, I kick MAJOR ass in KOF on keyboard. I can do spinning pile driver pretty easily on keyboard, and complex combos are a lot easier for me.

IS ANYONE GOING TO GIVE ME A KEYBOARD TO PLAY 3S?!!!

Hell-fuckin-no.

So what do I do? Try and adapt.

No joystick is going to be 100% perfect for anyone. Hell my perfect 3S setup would be: Keyboard, with an all 3P button, and an all 3K button, and a THROW button, like on DC. That would be my best setup. I’m never going to get it though. And I’m ok with that.

ouroborus posting:

makoto is too good

having smaller chars ruins the juggle timeing? perhaps

but i could say that having bigger chars ruins the juggle timing.

i personally have never had problem juggling with urien in the arcade. even though i dont play him his juggles work fine for me on both.

and i dont know how any one can argue with the game makers ahha the people who designed and programed the game.

i think they would know if the game was balanced with the unblocables or not.

sure oro might need unblocables in the arcade to beat ken. but does that one char matchup justify him having unblockables over all the chars as well?

the only reason he would need it in the first place is becuase ken is ridiculously easy to play with in the arcade a monkey could do his supers off reaction.

Ummm, you can’t argue the other way around because officially speaking, the arcade will always be the correct version.

And Urien doesn’t get a large effect in timing of juggles, it’s always Dudley, that guy’s juggles are totally gayed out in the DC version. Ask anyone on the 3S forum on that, and they’ll all say the same. Dudley is crippled in the DC version.

As for your thoughts on Oro’s unblockables, the timing is different for every group of character (falling speed, etc). The shotos (Ken, Gouki, Ryu, Sean) all fall at the same speed. But for every other char, it’s quite different, and as far as I’ve read and heard, it’s not a particularly easy timing to master. But nevertheless it is useful, so yes, it justifies it. If you put in the time to learn the character weights and timings, yes, you deserve to have the unblockables.

And on a side note…I don’t think Ken is that easy to play. Ken is easy to use, but I think he’s pretty hard to master. Out of the top 3, I think Yun is the hardest to master, then Ken, then Chun.

You guys sure bitch alot. Why not chill out with the smack talk and just play.

BC = Bitch City
