I think the video should’ve been named “CAN a 6 month old baby beat SFV story mode?”, because that last part where he stopped pressing buttons was suspenseful as fuck. Kept me on the edge of my seat even though I already knew what the outcome was going to be.
I know the point of the video is a demonstration to show the lack of quality in some of SFV’s content, but when I watch it all I can think is that’s an impressive baby.
I don’t care what fighting game you play. I didn’t mean to insult you based about what you said about the story mode, though that is stupid, too I meant to insult you based on the sentiment that SFV has no depth or no substance, which basically shows how little you know about Street Fighter or fighting games in general.
SFV has arguably more depth than SF4 since instead of having many useless options, you’ve got few with most being useful and less subsystems that take away the decision making from you, meaning you have to make hard decisions for yourself. The lack of focus and footsies-bypassing moves (i.e. instant divekicks) also means that you have to engage in footsies and the associated yomi, which I fucking like.
SFV takes good concepts from every game in the series and succeeds in mashing them together, resulting in a fresh new experience that retains just enough of the old formula to feel recognizable.
Say, you play Tekken, right?
How’s it better having 120 moves that you only use 20 of because the rest is basically useless shit, than having 20 moves where 18 are useful?
Or how does the amazing design of 10-hit combos feel, which are fucking great and borderline imbalanced to new players who get their shit pushed in by them not knowing how to block that shit, and completely useless against people who know how to block them and know where their gaps are?
Compared to Tekken, SFV did an amazing job in my opinion, while the Tekken series tries to be Tekken 3 with every installment (except for T4) completely neglecting how the competitive scene shaped the game.
Tekken 3 had useless 10-hit combos? We need useless 10-hit combos for the next game!
Tekken 3 had a shitload of moves? We need a shitload of moves no matter how crap most of them are!
At least SFV had the decency to remove stuff that was generally frowned upon and add stuff that was generally asked for and also put in some shit that hasn’t been done before.
If Tekken goes the same way one day, maybe I’ll give a damn about that franchise again.
I drifted way off topic though and just meant to say that having more shit in a game doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s more complex, and a basic game can have a lot of complexity to it which chess for example shows us for centuries now.
Not everyone can be super talented at fighting games like you. The average gamer thinks all games should be easy to hop on and have fun. online fighters or just competitive fighters in general are ruthless. I can totally understand why people quit this game so easily. Much of the community isnt very friendly to noobs/scrubs either.
I had a rage quit moment a few days ago, i cant seem to win in this game. I started playing during ssf4 and finally got okay at it by the end and now the only people i can beat are the scrubby dp mashers who do jp.hk-c.hk. Everyone else bodied me with ease, i cant get te feel for this game at all and its frustrating to just lose all night and day.
I can totally see the frustrations of playing street fighter online for the first time… Shit is rough.
