Some of the suggestions in this thread are ridiculous.
I’m gona go ahead and take the time to point out some of the obvious holes in some of said suggestions…
- Top 2 from SoCal, Top 2 from Norcal, and 2 from seattle (1 holds spot, other = sub).
Now what happens if the 5 best players are all from socal, then that wouldn’t be the best team to rep west coast. That would be the team that encompasses the entire west coast, but not “the best” or what if maybe The top 2 from so cal are solid, but there is maybe another person, who can rape the 2 from seattle or at least one of the norcal. You have excluded him from the contest simply because you’re only willing to let 2 from SoCal.

Nominations… I really don’t feel this needs to be stated any further. The pith of the problem is obvious biases which will screw up the team. I.e. if chris s. has a best friend or a good friend and wants him on the team, when it might be obvious that there is someone better than him, that person gets it…Or say soo wins Evo west, and then decides “I’m making the team, Soo, Cyf, Shogun, Fanatiq, Reset” well thats obviously not the best team. Nominations are biased and such decisions can’t be left to some people.

Tournament history…Easily one of the stupidest suggestions ever. Now I can go on and on about previous tournament winnings of finesse, Combofiend, Shady K, Clockwork, myself, Amir, reset and so on …Now I can tell you and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying: There is No way amir should be on team WC. Yes he’s been a solid player for a while, and I respect him as a marvel 3s and cvs2 player. Not top 5 marvel players on WC. Of course this is an exaggeration cuz noone would nominate him but to make it a lil more realistic. Combofiend though he is a solid player and has several victories over other players, wouldn’t be top 5 material, sure he has lots of victories but who cares if he was a “top player” in 2k2 or even 2k6, the game has changed so much since then and honestly 3 months without playing and a player can be a scrub, even though they were really solid in the past. Also you cant look at something like “this player did good at fr” or “this player did good in Ohio” because there are several other players that could have went to the same place and did better, from the West Coast.

Chris S gets it cuz he won evo west 2k7 and got top 5 at evo (I think he got 4th). So he was hot evo 2k7…so was I (though I played horribly to my own standards)…it will have been a year by time next evo comes up in a year things can change. The game evolves and some times older players are left behind.

Other players pertaining to other locations: The hype has been behind EC vs. WC. Its a dicotomy, nothing more. This has been a long rivalry. Including any others in this thing turns it into a gimmick, and just takes away from the overall purpose of the event. Some Canadins wanna play WC they can do that, it would be completely irrelevant to EC vs. WC. WHich is the event which holds all the fuss.

6: Player chemistry: By far the STUPIDEST of them all. Now in mvc2 in an individual team, chemistry is good because the team interacts with one another. For example, when I hit short short, psylocke comes and I combo off of her. We interacted. Or, when Ironman has a doom on screan and he’s rushing and you can’t confirm from sound when he hits you it messes up your blocking…sure chemistry matters there. In this 5 on 5, chemistry is irrelevant because there is no interaction outside of someone yellin “get him nigga” which you have an entire coast saying for you anyways. When I’m on the stage I don’t need my best friend behind me so I can feel good. All that matters is if I win, I stay if I lose I get off. Where does chemistry come into play???
Remember at ECC when they did that Elections tourney or someshit??? wasent that round robbin? why not just do that here. sooooooooooo mother fuckin simple. invite 16 players. for real. and do that shit on console.
and hold it in fresno. just 'cause the schmizzle lab is too good.

again why would u just give seattle the spots? Lets paint this scenario. Just a hypothetical k? Say me and finesse were to get the 2 spots from that 16 man round robin tourney. You just left chris S. out of the 5 on 5, because the other 2 spots were reserved. Or to make it even more realistic… Say Soo, Chris. S win…Now u left chunksta out because only 2 spots were played for…if we have to play for spots seattle has to play for spots as well.
However I agree this has to be done on console since evo is on console. THere is no way this is going down in fresno. The majority of the players on that list are in SoCal, making the majority travel to accomodate the minority is not wise.
It would make the most sense to do this at evo, since that would be the most accurate display of pertinent skill level (at the time it matters).

Cable guy would replace Tinh Ngo whom I’ve never really heard of. And if its round robin it doesn’t even have to be limited to 16. Genghis was also left out of that list, which I would kinda disagree with. But yes a round robin would be the smartest way to do it. If it can’t be done at evo, then maybe shortly before it like a week.
However we are at evo to play games, so its too much energy to play the game to determine the teams? Or we don’t have time to do this in 2 days? Not all of us have pools all day. Marvel pools isn’t gonna be 8 whole hours. And if it was, that would still leave 8 other hours for the round robin to happen. Or if they ran marvel on a friday like they did last year, then on saturday marvel would be free to do the round robin. All things considered unless someone has a really good reason why not at evo, then doing it at evo should stand.

Also what happens if the guy who is on the 5 on 5 get hit with some real life stuff and then can’t really play as much for the 2 months, and then sucks… now you have a weak player on the 5 on 5. I’m not opposed to practice for evo, but that shouldn’t have anything to do with the 5 on 5. Man who is tinh? and you think he’s top 5 in west coast? If tinh is in on it, then megaman ds should be in on it illan also. If they’re in on it, then again amir should be in it, and alex valle…you get the point. The first list was kinda solid. Cept for OBVIOUS reasons cable guy needs to be considered for the 5 on 5. When I was selected for the 5 on 5 (once the others had left) I nominated Cableguy. He is smooth viper’s counter. He beat yipes evo 2k5 too…

That is very true, but because of his recent experience in last year’s evo, that puts him up for CONSIDERATION for the team. There was a list suggested, with myself and 13 other players. Now we aren’t gonna determine the actual 5 on 5 based solely off of those, but we can use it for a determination of who should even be nominated. Make sense?

Look what happened last year when they tried to make a team at Vegas, Crizzle won his spot but gave it to Clock so he can go gamble. Soo is prolly gonna be gambling too or getting drunk, alot of the players didnt even wanna do it 'cause they wanted to go party. It’s Vegas!!! Not just a tournament!
And like I said, we can easily hook Chris Schmidt up with a ride from Fresno to where ever this shit is gonna be held at. Chris is fam bam. =D And july is more than enough time away for people to get up on their grind for Marvel.
Why not also do it on Console at FFA (if it’s ok with Arlieth) and they charge some kind of fee for letting us use the space? That way, it makes it alot easier for the NorCal/Fresno heads to get there (since we all know the spot) and all the Socal folks will only have to dive like maybe 2 and half hours TOPS to get there?

However if things change imho the best way to get the best team reppin for the wc is to have a nomination round robin tourny on the weekend of evo…perhaps fri night. what you do in july wont matter come aug. Plus u have to physically be at evo to participate anyway. Last year was was solely depeding on wether Soo was gonna play. When he told me he would and I mentioned it to Wizard, it was displayed on the screen. But when Soo had to leave for personal reasons shit got hectic again and it was scrapped.
Im planning on doing Seasons Beatings 3 in oct so if it doesnt happen at evo for any reason …We can DEFINITELY run this shit back there…
