The problem here is that people will skip through everything and miss out on the story. If I were a dev, I’d def want people to watch my hard work. Fuck 'em! (this is probably why I’d make a terrible game developer)
just think of what it would look like if he DIDN’T play games. it could have been Pre-Crisis Nando tier!
Some games (like 1/3 of FF Dissidia 2) shove the exact same story down your throat as the previous game. I’ve seen that already, I don’t need to see it again so the option to skip was very convenient.
Also, it’s not uncommon for people to replay games on a different system without their original save. Why should they not be given the choice to skip a scene the 1st time? Programs can’t always tell what a human has experienced regarding the game, so it’s convenient to be able to bypass that. The penalty for skipping something you haven’t seen before is just risking not understanding something later in the game all that’s all it should be imo.
Re: article: I got started in the late 8-bit era and quickly got flung into the 16-bit era, and I can’t say I was all that different from the kids in the article when it came to reading large amounts of text in-game, but that gradually changed over time as I wanted to experience more of the games I played. Like Sonichuman, I got a lot of my interest in reading from playing video games.
I guess I don’t mind grinding as much the 1st time playing a game. As long as there are new techniques from leveling up that look cool, I’m okay with it. However when some shit like grinding for a while without saving and then dying on some BS happens, and I lose a shitload of progress, that’ll make me quit playing for like a week or two cause I don’t feel like doing that shit again. Personally I like the Zelda-style approach best, where the character gets stronger by way of getting items** from actually progressing through levels of the game.**
Staying alive is really important to me in a game, so the lack of penalty for dying in recent games does bother me a bit. My little cousins think they’re invincible until I let them play some shit like Super Ghouls n Ghosts.
Re: story: I like trivia and story-related things for games so I waste a lot of time reading wikia pages for certain games’ series. I think it’s good for people who are into that stuff like me, but shouldn’t be forced on anyone. In other words, I think story should be there for your pleasure and entertainment, but not be vital or essential for a person to actually complete a game.
#1 was hilarious.
these cutscenes are usually just pictures that sometimes move with voice over. skip button = saviour
If anyone wants to play a decent game ruined by text try trauma center for the ds. it’s got non stop dialog between everyone and anyone. the 2nd level is nothing but text. all you do is press a button for 5mins until the text is over. level complete. what the hell
‘I don’t know what this Nando is…but it sounds disappointing’
Hmm… on the grinding. I grinded the hell out of everything in FF7 but he’s kinda right. All the job grinding in FFV made sure I never go back to that fucking game. Its kind of a waste of time to put in that much effort for one or two abilities. Especially when the grinding isn’t fun.
Now, grinding in Godhand and in FOTNS: Ken’s Rage, hi-fucking-lariously fun.
Fallout is a shit game for people with aspergers that want to strike out at society by killing random npc’s in a boring video game.
A Grand theft auto for self titled smart people that don’t like sunlight if you will.
^ fuck you bro
The only good thing he mentioned was regarding the lack of penalty for losing/death in video games. THat is a issue definitely, everything else such as grinding/text/cheats and skipping scenes I don’t give a shit about.
Hmm when my nephews play games on my PS3 they don’t usually skip cutscenes, so I guess it depends on the kids playing and/or the game.
Nando is an SRK vet that… well… talk english good mang.
DBZ Abridged Yamcha joke, dude.
Oh… 5:50am and slightly hung over… been full of stupid shit lately…
sorry…
