That first couple of seasons of YGO is the most godlike cardgame ever. What other TV show can say they use a character forgetting what the cards in her deck do as a plot device? NONE. Hilariously whack.
I’m not going to lie. I was hooked on this stupid show for a while. The silly “OBJECTION!!!” nonsense [YOU ACTIVATED MY TRAP to negate your trap to negate your monster’s special ability!], hoping that one day there would be big ass projection machines that can play these type of games, themed decks etc. I didn’t even bother with the other series though. Motorcycles and card playing? A school to play card games? Things just got a little too out of hand…

That show lead to the creation (by me) of phrase to describe two card combos that are thrown in for no other reason than to draw them: Yugioh combos. Can also be used to describe any other situational combo. As fellow magic player, I’m sure you’ll appreciate how often that phrase will occur in your life.
That’s not even my favorite. The best all time is stone guardian stabbing the moon to recede the waves and asphyxiate a bunch of sea creatures. My mind exploded at that moment.
For sure! Yu-Gi-Oh basically played on my Johnny-type [Create some ridicilous chain of combos Dante-style. Why? Because it looks fucking cool!] attitude for those type of card games. Haha that shit was great! It was also like how destroying the Anti-Gravity Ring on that floating Castle of Death to kill it’s user! “Fine… I will just make your invincible floating fortress… FALL ON TOP OF YOU!!!” 
Don’t forget when Call of the Haunted was the best damn Magic Card of all time…>_<
My monsters in Grave come back, turn into zombies, and every time they get killed, they come back stronger and with weirder point values.
Pretty much so in conclusion, Nonsensical TV show card game > Nonsensical actual cardgame with tiny print and crappy gameplay. If the actual game had holograms, shoddier math than the 48/2(9+3) stuff and rules you could make up on the fly, it would be the best game ever. Oh yeah, and the Yu-gi-oh version of fog > M:TG’s version of fog. It stays around in the playing field and the monsters can’t see through it so they can’t attack = :lol:
Oh yeah, and toon monster bob and weave like Steve Fox.
all I want to know is why that nigga yugi was undefeated, even if he did lose it was by some crazy stipulation like Kaiba almost committing suicide in order for yugi’s ass to lose and hell even then the spirit living inside dat nigga was like “YO FINISH HIS ASS BRUH, WHAT DA HELL YOU DOIN KID” but yugi punked out…
also the show is false advertisement at its finest, people thinking they need exodia, three god cards, or some shit in each of their decks in order to win, then get aced in a real tournament or battle

It is sorta false advertisement. Half the cards on the show are GREATLY exaggerated [Call of the Haunted only brings back one monster IIRC in the actual card game but keeps making them come back on the show], hella banned in actual play [if they so happen to be broken], monsters with no summoning sickness, summoning big ass monsters on turn 1 etc. It was the retardation… that made this show so silly and fun to watch.
Also… Toon World doing whatever the fuck it wants.
I just remember the episode of GX where one of the kids uses a card he made up himself in a match. And he STILL lost. That and the kid who has a special power that makes people fall asleep just by standing next to him and ends up winning a match cause his opponent got tired and quit.
This. Seriously. The thing that made me lose a lot of interest in anime is that i’m no longer a snot nosed teen in love with everything from Japan. Western producers are creating high level media on par with what Japan was creating when it was on top.
That a and anime is too loli/fan service based for me to care about it much. Not enough serious mech/karate series anymore.

I pretty much stopped watching yugioh at that atlantean arc, it was that uninteresting. I think that’s what killed its audience when they tried to cap it off. 4kids dubs are laughable especially for this show, try watching it without that shitty version and you’ll see what I mean.
its funny to me…ive fallen out of love with anime bar one piece. but my artstyle is sooo heavily anime influenced…i dont know if i could ever get rid of it totally. ive literally been drawing in an anime style since i was about 9. i’m 26 now…its alot more american influenced but the anime influence is deeply rooted in what i do.

Though I’m not gonna lie, Pikachu’s moveset seems pretty good for an actual Pokemon game lol. Static ability, Thunderbolt, Volt Tackle, Iron Tail, Quick Attack? Idk, I’m no expert on Pokemon or whatever, I never was, but it seems pretty solid to me.
