Not hatemail b/c we played off-line and in person.
This guy has been play SFIV for a while down here, & then he decides to pick up 3SO. “Cool” I said. Thing is, he plays Dudley in SFIV. Of course, when he sees Dudley played in 3S, the reaction is like “Oh my GOD!?!?” I think that’s cool, and I want to help him along with the game. The problem is he’s trying to play 3S Dudley the way he plays SFIV Dudley: link every normal and watch for fireballs. But it 3S, Dudley’s normals are pretty damn awesome, and he gets away with a lot of stuff when he plays against other people who just started. Jungle - style Dudley will make new players cry.
“I’m going to teach him that it’s not always good to keep pressing buttons” is what I said.
I pick Yun with GJ.
He plays Jungle - style. He eats palms from two characters away b/c he keeps pressing buttons. He keeps eating them. He get’s crazier and continues to try and catch me with ex dps and roundhouse to ex mgb without confirming. Well, GJ = 35-40%.
After a few of these rounds, instead of “What am I doing wrong?” he says “Man, I can never take this game competitively.” “Blah blah rebalance.” That surprised me coming from him b/c I didn’t think he had an attitude problem like that.
THEN, I’m like fine. I’m going to just get GJ asap and block string pressure him. “I’ll make him block” is what I said. Blocking is what he didn’t do. “Is Yun’s dive kick an overhead?” he asks.
What he said next completely baffled me . . .
I show him, and he goes “OMG, I’m DONE. That doesn’t make sense!” We try to explain that SFIV doesn’t make sense b/c in every game before SFIV, all jumping actions are overheads. The situation didn’t get any better from a bystander saying “SFIV spoiled you.” Then it goes on tangent complaining and getting heated over dumb shit like arguing over who is and who isn’t a “shoto.”
And there goes my effort on introducing another player to the world of 3S. He’d rather stay in SFIV. (sigh) You can’t save them all.
P.S. He tried to play again later while I was playing as Makoto. He didn’t like facing someone with equally good normals. He stopped playing again. I guess I’ll just leave him be when he’s “styling” on other new 3S players.
