every 3s player i personally know plays sf4 i think its just a small percentage that don’t.
I AM playing Street Fighter 4.
While I think SF4 is a great game, I still think 3rd is better.
biggest reason for me to play sf4 is that everyone else around me is playing it. that is enough for some people to play it, but not for me; the game is boring and not fun.
2009 was supposed to be the year of capcom, but re5 and sf4 are shit.
How can people actually say SF4 is shit? It’s a different game. I know its not 3S or ST or CvS2…its a new game. Obviously the game has some great features…why else would a lot of top Japanese players be playing it? You think everyone is only playing it because its the hip new thing to do? I’m not a SF4 fan boy by any means, I like 3rd Strike a ton more than I like SF4, but I would be hard pressed to call the game shit. I can’t tell if some of you guys genuinely just hate SF4, or if you’re all game elitists. I never quite understood the whole attitude of just playing one game and shunning so many other great games. Why not play many games?
Mio, you said “us 3rd Strike players don’t like SF4”…well you can count me as a 3rd Strike player who definitely likes SF4, even though I still like 3S much more…3rd Strike was the first fighting game I took seriously so nothing will every be able to replace it in my mind. I will say this though: I like SF4 for a totally different reason than I like 3rd Strike. Since I am someone who never really played classic fighting games before playing 3S, SF4 was the game that sparked my interest in learning the basic zoning and spacing and mind game tactics that go hand in hand with games like ST or CvS2 or HDR. Before SF4 I found those other games to be too intimidating to learn, but SF4 is a great game to introduce new players to the intricate mechanics of classic fighters. This is what Capcom set out to achieve with SF4 and if you ask me I think they have succeeded.
Disclaimer: While I like playing SF4, I really wish people around my area hadn’t dropped 3rd Strike. I have a lot more fun with 3S than SF4, but I like both games.
3s player says sf4 is shit
sf4 player says it’s different and he’s right, and so is the 3s player.
Since this thread has miraculously not been closed yet, I was wondering the SAME thing about WHY EVERYONE plays sf4 (except my friend Mike Z, for the most part). I mostly try it cos it’s NEW, and I have a feeling that’s why MOST ppl play it. I’m NOT trying to knock the game if it turns out to very deep and fun, but I wish 3S wasn’t ABANDONED to a large extent, for sf4.
I’ll play it for the new characters like Rufus (he’s kinda fun, if you can get past his UGLINESS :P), but WHAT is so NEW about this game? You’ve got focus cancels so I guess that’s new, but was it as INNOVATIVE as the parry system? I understand that Capcom wanted to try something new, but this was NOT an equal replacement for it, imo.
This game’s got those weird juggles into Ultra supers that remind me of the SFEX games (I’m a closet ex fan, to an extent! ).
I mean, I watch a bunch of YT matches of JP and U.S. players and half the time, the game seems like a total turtlefest w/ fireball fights and ppl afraid to jump because there’s no air-block or air-parries. I hardly ever see anything exciting happen, and the matches seem kinda predictable. I also don’t live near arcades that only charge a quarter by now.
I HARDLY see ppl use a bunch of the supers in the game (they seem pointless), such as Rufus’s NON-Ultra (have you ever SEEN it used, even?!?!). I watch a Ken player and the most advanced strat seems to be block string or tick, tick, tick into throw, cross-up, wp/wk X infinity (just kidding: x3) into HP srk/dp.
Presumably, the “Sagat dilemma” (sp) isn’t so bad (he recovers SO FAST from his Tiger Knee and perhaps other moves, right?!).
Focus cancels only seem to work into combos really well for a few characters such as Abel, and absorbing projectiles to gain ultra doesn’t seem useful that often.
Although I liked K-Groove in CvS2 (not like the game much over time, though…), I don’t like getting “rewarded” w/ ultra bar for getting hit. The limit of types of supers per characters also saddens me 'At least JR is happy you can have TWO demons at the same time now.
The timing in this game feels so strange to me…hit stun lasts FOREVER (I keep looking at the combo counter and asking myself “did that REALLY ‘combo’?!” Basic pokes in combos seem to have CRAZY range, or at least, the hitboxes are huge.
I’m also HORRIBLE at this game (worse than at 3S), but lack the motivation to get better. I LOVE having a new Capcom game w/ a ton of new characters to try, and I try everyone, basically, except Viper and Fuerte are VERY tough to use and for getting wins, Abel seems a bit formulaic (sp) and a former Able user talked me out of trying him, and although I actually wound up liking Rufus, the new character selection is still very limited.
My favorite original ST characters are only on CONSOLE (Cammy’s my best character, unfortunately!), and I hear Gen is pretty weak.
I seldom see exciting matches. I liked seeing the Fuerte run cancel used to dizzy ppl faster, but that was about as fun to watch as I’ve seen for this game I guess I just don’t understand the game well enough at this point…!!!
SF4 is an ugly hunk of turd.
I’ll be the first to admit that stacked up agaisnt the likes of 3s,turbo,UM98/UM02 and tekken that SFV is not as appealing…but it certainly is not enttitled to the negative rep it is recieving. To avoid a long and usless post, SFV is important to the genre if only for the sole purpose of exposure. Granted, it may not be the best example of all the possible fighters currently avaible but it still a enjoyable game.
3S players shouldn’t say that sf4 is crap because it makes us look bitter at losing a lot of our community to it. At least give Capcom a chance to revise it once or twice. Who knows, tweaking the focus cancel and super meter a little may make it play a lot more like 3S…
I don’t get this. Rufus can Ultra very easy by divekicking and comboing into it. And it’s used very often, basically whenever a divekick is in and you have ultra meter.
well imo sf4 is shit then.
i just like super jumping and doing quick getups. these things add a lot of the fun i have while playing sf
3S is more complicated. Deeper mind games and more answers and variations in all situations.
SF4 is more mechanical. Situations are a lot more secured with definite answers that the player needs to know and execute well.
Personal preference - 3S. They’re two completely different games and I like the one much better than the other. I don’t see a need to “make the switch” as SF4 is not an upgrade, it is a new game, which is not what I am looking to play.
'Sorry: I said his NON-Ultra; meaning his regular super. His regular Ultra can be comboed into (juggles only for Rufus, afaik, and juggling is the way most Ultras get comboed, I think. You can only combo into his Ultra in 2 or 3 ways, but then again, there are probably other ways. I had to burn meter myself, just so I could see what his regular super looks like, and I cancelled into it from a cr.mk. It’s funny how hit-stun can last SO long on wp/wk hits in this game, yet cancelling cr.mk into his regular super seemed to require quick timing.
I was waiting to see if anyone else would say this. Although I mostly think sf4 is being played cos it’s new and ppl want to find out exactly how deep, dynamic and fun it can be, so far, I can’t imagine it getting much more interesting unless they make revisions like w/ 3S, indeed. I like 3S a LOT more than the 1st 2 3s (the first 2 sf3 games :P) because it’s the most playable (despite how badass Ibuki and Sean were…), so I DO hope they make revisions of sf4 as well (which partially would mean putting Cammy and the other console-exclusive in the coin-op version(s).
I AM bitter about 3S being left in the dust to a large extent, but IF players find sf4 really entertaining, then I’m NOT going to say I wish it an early death out of desperation to try to get back our 3S community! I just hope that the majority of sf players in general are ppl who really CARE about the games. There might be more casual players in the world overall and Capcom hopes to catch the eyes of a potentially ever-growing pool of players, but I hope it also caters to the hardcore part of the community: even if it’s a numerical minority…for instance, I think the hardcore players have been the ones to keep the sf community so strong and enduring when it comes to 10-year-old games like 3S…
3s is best, sf4 sucks.
when i take a break from 3s i play mvc2, or vampire saviour, or karnov’s revenge or any of the other countless games that are better than sf4 and don’t have a 90% player base of scrubs or people that DON’T LIKE THE GAME but play it anyway.
how bout you play the game you like?! what a concept!!!
if you are playing sf4, ask yourself WHY? why are spending time on a game you don’t LOVE, why in the fuck would you do that? do you even want to be good at a game you don’t like!?
SFIV is everything 3s is not- slow and repetive. You have a hard time expressing yourself with your character because the goal is being perfect in all aspects since there are definite answers to most situations. But I still play it …
DAMN, bro lol. I like Karnov’s Revenge too! I didn’t think anyone KNEW that game, but that’s kinda the point here. I like Ryoko in that game cos she has the new flame version of her ‘Mountain Storm’ or whatever, that kills you in THREE grabs or so and has an awesome look and sound. Ucla HAD the game when it was new/newer…but that was a long time ago not sure if the SUPER-RARE Saturn version (or whatever console version’s/versions available) are worth playing though.
I fear you’re saying what I’m thinking but I WANT to like the game if there’s any chance it could evolve. I dunno if I’d keep playing the sf3 games if 3S never existed, once I found out how broken 2I Akuma was, and cos of all the infinites and such, but if they ever make follow-ups to sf4 that introduce a more complex game engine, I’ll be THRILLED.
We had CvS2, SvC Chaos, CFJ, and now sf4…and I HONESTLY think part of the reason random, casual ppl play it is cos it has a FOUR in the name! O_O All the other games got left in the dust, and I don’t know if the same will end up happening to 4, cos it’s lasted longer already.
If ST could last this long, and it has 5-hit, 5-SECOND rounds that make 3S look like an epic saga every match, then 3S couldn’t be going anywhere; by comparison, at least! I’ll still be playing 3S at ucla when I get over being sick!
That’s actually one of the reasons I’m not too keen on ST. :bluu:
But you know what? 3s is still pretty popular, especially here in the South. The game’s quality, and as such, I don’t think it’s going away any time soon. So we can rest assured that people will still be playing it years from now unless Capcom tops it.
3s is much, much better than shit eater 4 tbh just waiting for blazblue so i can trade sf4 in…
Who wants to leave the majors to play in the minor league?
People need to quit relying on Capcom to make quality fighters when there are other companies that have been making them since Capcom’s fall to mediocrity. They’ve been doing well in other genres but they haven’t done anything original in a long time.
