Play Third Strike Online Edition. It’s a good game. 4 frames of input lag is arcade cabinet perfect.
I finally had a chance to do a true side-to-side playtest with PS3 and 360 versions of OE today. I feel that the PS3 version is ever-so-slightly faster than the 360 version. The sound effects on PS3 also sound slightly higher-pitched than the 360 version (example: the “hoo” sound Yun makes on his dive kick).
This would explain the results in this thread of PS3’s inputs being averaging as slightly faster, as well as the issues myself and others had with timing on the PS3 version.
It would be cool if someone could do a really scientific test to compare the game speed of both versions compared to arcade. The timing on PS3 feels off enough to where I feel like I sometimes miss quick getups, Genei-jin links after activation, and things like that which would have connected on arcade. On 360 I feel more consistent and confident with my timing.
I would love to be proven wrong and find out it’s just psychological, but as a 10+ year 3S player I do feel a slight difference.
I’m gonna be out of town for a few days for work, but I updated with some quick results for filtered modes. Only the top resolutions were tested (1080p on 360, 720p on PS3). Difference is negligible; use the filters if you like them IMHO.
I’m interested in what way the PS2 input lag relates to 3sOE.
Although, of course, we want it to be ‘arcade perfect’, even if 3s on CPS-III has 0 frames of input lag, most of us haven’t learned the game on CPS-III but rather on PS2, if that input lag is similar, it will definitely show that people’s ‘feel’ on the input lag is all wrong.
Also still very curious if someone with a CPS-III could do a similar test.
If I remember correctly, the PS2 version runs faster.
Hey Robo - can you explain what the #'s mean here? maybe i’m an idiot but i’m not following the spreadsheet…
I think it means “out of 50 trials, X of them had Y frames of lag” where X is the number in the cell and Y corresponds to the left.
And how can we test the speed? Per poonage’s post - i also do notice the higher pitched sounds and timing does seem to be a bit tighter than i remember …
I mentioned in the 3S forum I would test the input lag of the PS3 versus the CPS-3. I’m hoping I can do it this weekend after I get my cab moved in to my new place. I don’t have a 360 to test though.
Speed test can be done with programmable controllers. I’d expect that 3SoE runs at 59.94 FPS though.
This makes me sad. No wonder i’m dropping fucking keeperjin
same here(using 360 w/720 p default settings).
even some basic combos are dropping for no apparent reason, like the floating dashpunch combo on ken will drop the last hit of the dash punch randomly, and that never happened on ps2 or arcade.
anyone else finding this with yun?
I noticed no other real problems… get KO ender and such easier for whatever reason.
i guess this explains my hugo spd issue. i’ve been jumping more then i like too.
I’d like to add that i haven’t felt any input delay, or if much at all on my set-up. been playing since 3s arcade days. dispite my LCD being a 3rd party no name, i haven’t any delay on the FGs, or any other games that i play on my set up.
As a musician and long time arcade and ps2 3rd strike player, I’m confident in saying that the game play on both consoles don’t respond immediately to inputs like they should.
I’m glad the game is more accessible and is well received by the newer generation of players. However, for the higher level players who depend on that fine tuning for a greater gaming experience, it’s somewhat of a heart breaker
What setup is this on? CRT? HDTV?
yeah the trashcan noises aren’t anywhere near as funny on PS3 as they are on 360
A question about the joystick/LED setup:
Does anyone know whether or not the Turbo LED lights on the MadCatz stick turns off as soon as you press the button? I want to see if I can recreate this so that I can measure my own TVs lag, but I don’t feel like rewiring my stick.
I’ve played on CRT’s, an ASUS and a Panasonic LCD. It either lags a little bit or a lot.
