To troll.

You can hit a lot of characters while they are crouching, this works well with someone who down parries often as it’s a high parry only as opposed to cr.Strong, which can also be down parried. You do need to be cautious of trying to stick it out too far as a counter poke, because it not cancellable, it can often lead to trades that can’t connect into SA3, even though you confirmed it, ex. punish Ken’s st.Forward with it from a distance and the confirmed super won’t be able to connect due to distance.

its different.
same reason you use any normal.

It’s good for stuffing alot of the bigger characters stuff. Vs urien it’s sick btw, great for stopping random headbutts and stuff.

edit
lol just realised you said strong. Thought you meant fierce o_0

Anyway strong is good in some situations because it is faster then low forward and as such you can use it to punish stuff like throws where cr strong might miss. Even if you were in range for cr strong though i’d be wary about using it. Given that it can be parried high and low unlike far standing strong.

  • poke for medium kicks (farthest reaching highs) that has a safe “zone”
  • anti-air dive kicks
  • against a low strong
  • etc

Confirmation of the type the we have collectively come to call “confirm” doesn’t necessarily have to happen after/during start up. Confirm refers to that small window of time where one is allowed to cancel. It sounds like you see a simple matching game. We refer to that as auto-pilot, my friend. I have stuff for that too.

edit:
WHOOPS projecting a bit.

um… what?

Most hitconfirms happen after the cancellable frames, i.e. Gouki’s cl.st.Foward, Remy’s cl.st.Forward etc.

That isn’t auto pilot IMO, it’s a gamble, you can punish moves with Ken’s st.Strong->SA3, but depending on your opponents poke, it can be risky if it pushes them slightly out of SA3’s range. I’m talking differences in distances that are <5 pixels, if you can “anti-confirm” within those margins, wow, you da bess.

Is it auto pilot when players “confirm” supers, but their opponent is suddenly mid-air? Sometimes, but when it appears that their feet are still touching the ground… it can be hard to distinguish whether it will connect or not, but it’s still easier IMO to anti-confirm that, then a far counter poke st.Strong…

yeah dont worry dander may say weird shit.
but he would almost certainly destroy you and knows what he’s talking about even if he says it wrong.

Like it sounded like you were saying press buttons for super even if you hit a stand forward that will be too far to connect off of. That’s why I said what I said but remembered that SRK has held firmly to the belief that the only kind of hit confirm that exists, is a link. But I confirm when I cancel too, and calling it a cancel isn’t going to help scrubs realize that they have to shut up, stop pressing buttons and pay attention a little bit.

There was this cute girl standing next to me waiting to play 3s at ffa yesterday. She was prolly there with her boyfriend, but she was definitely cheering me on. WOowooo goo Dander!!!1eins

3s Girl Player FAQ / / Directions – START HERE

Me to NNNNeil:
Yeah it took like 2 hours to walk here…

Girl with Arlieth:
It took me 4 hours!

Don’t know if she heard the wwww part so did she walk what, I didn’t even continue to that different conversation, kinda tired. Arlieth talked over some things on the matchup after she played her Chun vs someone, yup she says she knows. Oh right, about 2i she knew about the bounce up parry and air directions, when it came up and someone asked. & when I 1st got there pherai was like in a moviestar mode and talking to her so I couldn’t shake his hand, MOVE LADY!! =(

but he did right before he Ken stage’d up some Alpha 2. He completely stopped what he was doing to do so.

-to be like Ryu.

I picked up 3S a month ago and have another mate that did the same. I’m playing (and loving) Alex. He’s playing Ken (who I’m hating). Anyways just had some questions about this match up:

-When can I use his pile driver? I’m way too trigger happy on this and whiff a bunch of them.
-If I block an SRK, can I punish with an SPD as he lands? I have done it, but was unsure if that was merely because he was blocking as he landed. If not, can someone give me a good meterless punish?
-My mate jumps, a lot. Maybe I’m just timing my air moves badly but his j.HK seems to catch me a lot if I’m jumping too. Should I be using vertical HK to stuff him? I know there is the anti-air knee drop which I do use, however I don’t want to rely on it solely as if it whiffs I’m usually in trouble.
-When to use his dash-elbow in this match? Sometimes I get on tilt and will burn meter on EX Dash but during the dash and before the elbow I often get stuffed by a poke. Is this only to be used at a precise distance?
-I know Alex’s cr.MP is solid but when being rushed down, it can often be stuffed during start up by Kens cr.LK. How to deal with cr.LK spam, maybe MK foot dive?
-How to punish locked cr.HK?

Cheers for your time 3S gurus.

1: It’s not a Pile Driver, it’s a Power Bomb. It’s pretty much the shittiest command grab in the entire game. What you want to do is use it sparingly but make your opponent fear that you might use it. I.E. on their wakeup, ticking into Power Bomb (Always use LP Powerbomb btw) with crLK, crMK, stLP.

2: Shoto jHK is gdlk. One of the best air normals in the game along with Chun’s everything. You could try to do jHK or jHP really early, of just wait for them to jump in and parry and do stMP into EX Air Knee Smash.

3:EX Elbow you want to use to punish blocked Supers, Sweeps, generally unsafe moves like Necro’s pokes or Dud’s Machine Gun Blow. You can also do it after a MP or HP Flash Chop. Or just go for it if you have Yomi. Be aware that Ken and Chun can easily punish EX Elbow on block with Super, but they can’t punish a LK Elbow.

4: He’s not Dr. Doom… stMK is one of his best pokes and is really good at stopping Shoto crMK shit. His other best poke is tMP. But typically what you want to do is fish for them trying to do a low or throw out an Hadouken and jump in and get that combo.

5: EX Elbow. Maybe SA1 or 2 if you’re close enough. But EX Elbow is best.

his command grab can be used any time the other guy commits to blocking. each button you use has a different amount of startup and range, check ESN’s frame data site if you’re interested in learning more. I believe you generally want to be using jab power bomb.

you can do just about anything you want as a punish when you block Ken shoryu. command grab, standing forward into SA2, standing forward into ex flash chop, or whatever you want. meter conservation isn’t as big a deal in 3s as it is in like SF4, I wouldn’t worry much about finding meterless punishes in this game. if you have a chance for an easy punish, spend the meter and do a lot of damage.

anti air depends on what range he’s jumping from and when he is hitting buttons. as a general rule you can parry jump ins, walk or dash under them, walk backwards, meet them in the air with parry, or just block and see what they do after. for Alex I think forward fierce, standing mp or just jump and fierce them works depending on the other guy’s jump in.

I believe all of Alex’s elbows can be reversal supered by Ken on block. not a great idea to just throw them out there and hope they hit.

block crouching lks until he is pushed out of range. eventually down the line this might lead into cr lk tick into throw, something to keep in mind.

if you block a sweep you can punish with EX elbow.

with Alex I think you generally want to control space with standing mp and standing forward. take opportunities for jump in fierce/empty jump throw when you can get them. punish unsafe things with standing forward into SA2 or EX elbow depending on the move and spacing. when you get a knockdown, you have good opportunities for mix up. standing forward (looking for hit confirm into EX flash chop or SA2), standing fierce, power bomb can all work depending on what your opponent wants to do and what you’ve conditioned him for.

I’m by no means an Alex expert so I may be wrong on some of this. Just hope to get you started. You’ll probably receive better advice after this.

EDIT: ha Louis beat me to it. he actually plays Alex so probably more useful from him.

blocked shoryu. depends on the shoryu used. if its a big one, start doing fierce flash chop very early so its hitting him just as he lands. then combo into powerbomb.

No. Only combo into Power Bomb off Flash Chop if it it will kill them or you have no EX. It’s better to do MP/HP Flash Chop and if you’re close enough then sMP and either EX Flash Chop or EX Shoulder. The damage is equivalent to a jump in combo for anywhere from 25-35% damage depending on character. If you’re too far away to land sMP do EX Shoulder.

it doesnt give good meter? i get what you’re saying though.

It gives okay meter but I still wouldn’t use it unless I had no EX.

hello I just want to ask a quick question, I want to pick up this game but I have no offline scene for this game, so;
is the online somewhat populated where I can fight people everyday?
Is the online viable for online-only play and practice/training for me?

Main reason why I want to buy this game is because SF4 looks ugly and because I have fallen in love with Q (no homo)

He looks really cool as a character, and if I buy the game he is the character I will play, no matter the circumstances.

Thank you for your time in advanced.

Yes, it is. I recommend XBL for 3SOE, though. There are more players on XBL than PSN, as well.

Yes, both of them. Maybe, some combo trials do not feel that important/practical in a real match, but that’s debatable.
You are supposed to own a good internet connection(wired), mind you.

By all means.

Do you have any kind of Local Scene? Because 3S is one of those games that I think everyone plays even at a scrub level even if they prefer SF4 or Marvel. It’s just like someone playing ST or Marvel 2 casuals. 3S has entered into that legacy status.

Anywho, Q is probably the hardest character to win with. His strategy is pretty basic but he’s slow and clunky enough that he can be difficult to win with.
