3s New Player FAQ // Directions -- START HERE

Hi, is this game played with an 8-way joystick or a 4-way joystick on the original japanese cabinets?

no fighting games are played with 4-way sticks. the “#-way” notation means the number of directions that can be registered in the game. a 4-way would be a pac-man stick or something, since there are no diagonal inputs.

if you’re talking about the shape of the restrictor plate, square is the only thing that has ever been used in a public game centre for 3S, as far as i know. octagonal is just for the few people with customs who think they’d prefer it.

I see, thank you.

American style circular plates for every machine near me. ;_;

AMURIKA NUMBER ONE!!!11!1
I guess.

Maybe someone could clarify this. Urien’s conventional midscreen ub is super lenient with the charge partitioning. You can overcharge and it still comes out yet for other UB’s like the dash st.mp tackle under Dudley, Alex, etc. you have to be careful of overcharging. Why is that? Also, I’m still struggling on the timing with that. Any tips?

I usually don’t bother with st.MP so I just start charging immediately after Urien says “Aegis”, then dash forward, then hold downback slightly to Tackle just to give myself a sense of timing. I can pull it out most of the time, but yeah, consistency is definitely tougher on that one.

Thanks, I’ve heard someone say they listen for Aegis before. I’ll have to try that. I usually just estimate the timing but I can’t be any more inconsistent doing it that way. It’s just strange that the dash headbutt setup doesn’t adhere to those same requirements. It was almost as if they intended it.

Because Urien is taller? No seriously look at him. Also Yang rapes akuma.

Red parries, how do they work?

Block then parry NEXT hit or is it possible to red parry a single hit?

it’s not possible to red parry a single hit. if you were in blockstun it’s red, otherwise it’s blue. often, you might plan to parry the next hit while in blockstun, but blockstun expires before the hit makes contact and you’ll get a blue parry when you thought it would have been red.

check posts 1 and 32 in the system mechanics thread for more details about parrying.

This. The timing is stricter for red parries though(2 frames as opposed to I think 11 for blue), and like Gaijinblaze said, you HAVE to be in blockstun frames for a red parry to happen.

Hi I’m going to pick up 3S whenever it goes online. I’ve been practicing a little on my xbox copy of it. I’ve been learning Ken and Sean.

I wanted to know which characters have the best range/footsies, and which are the fastest/best mobility? I really like ranged characters (not necessarily projectile) and characters with good mobility/speed.

Looking forward to 3SO.

Chun-Li and Ken pretty much meet your requirements. Chun has the best tools for footsies in the game and is deceptively mobile, while Ken is the whole package. Range, speed, mobility, and consistency.

I’d also say Yang since he’s naturally fast/agile has good poking normals(not to mention whiff punishers with EX Slashes), but he does require some aggressive play for best results so I’m not sure. I’d still say try him out though.

I’d say you’re describing Chun, Yang, Oro… and I guess Sean lol. They all have decent footsies. Sean walks and dashes really fast, Chun and Yang walk really fast and have other ways of moving. Oro has a fast dash and a double jump and his footsies are really good. He hops around the screen all day. I guess Yun and Gouki are good at diving all around too.

Thanks I’ll mess around with those guys. I didn’t want to be just another chun but I’ll try her lol. And I play Yun in sf4, idk if I’m willing to learn harder genei jin combos. Sean is my favorite as far as style, and the twins.

You’d be surprised at the lack of dedicated Chun Li players in the US. It’s true that some of the best in America use Chun, but you’ll see way more Kens. Not enough people play Chun to be honest, so besides her being the best character in the game, you’ll have a bunch of people not get used to the matchup and as a result cry way more. Seriously, somebody should pick up the slack.

who has better range/footsies chun or ken?

Chun, particularly since her footsies lead to SA2 once she has meter.

Probably wrong section but the “Best Elena players” in her section is from 2005…I was wondering who are some of the top Elena players out now/recently?..so far I only know of Sei, Combofiend, MOV, Azuma and Kuroda whenever he uses her but if theres anyone else y’all think stick out and would recommend to watch, I’d gladly appreciate your suggestions.

CASA and K.O (the same guy who plays the twins) have good Elena’s
