Been leveling up my Ken in the meantime though. Mr. Boo raped me pretty hard the first time we fought, and last night, we were pretty much dead even.
Smoothcat’s definitely the best player I’ve seen on there so far though. Really solid Chun’/Yun. His hit confirm is just a little iffy at times, but who am I to talk? I can’t even hit confirm c. MK shipuu without cancelling into a fireball first.
Its IMPOSSIBLE to confirm off just low MK. Offline and online. Technically, there is a time leeway where its possible to go into super after you see just an MK hit if buffered but unless someone’s a robot, they’re not gonna confirm off it consistently. Parry into low mk is confirmable.
That’s BS. The cancel window is MUCH larger than you think. I can easily (figuratively speaking) confirm c. MK to EX hadou or LP/FP DPs. I just have trouble with the shipuu confirm because the extra QCF motion throws my timing off (I’m usually a few frames too late).

I don’t think you understand what I meant. I don’t do c. MK > Fireball and then confirm off that because that’s not safe on block against a lot of people, and it’s parry bait. I confirm the fireball off c. MK and then cancel because buffering the fireball isn’t as awkward for me.
Option-select confirming c. MK is not the same as a straight confirm. Otherwise, you’d never see people doing it point blank or within hitting range, but you do.
Most of the time, I can only confirm if it hits while they’re standing because the animation is a lot more obvious, but guys like Valle, Ryan Hart, Hirai, Deshiken, Daigo and others can do it fine.
There have been times where I’ve confirmed c. MK ridiculously late, and it still worked. I just need to work on getting my muscles to memorize that exact timing – although, if I see them move when I stick the normal out, I can cancel almost immediately.
In my last set of matches with Mr. Boo, there’s one match against his Elena where I cancel it really really late after doing cross-up jump MK > dash-back, c. MK. It honestly felt like I waited an eternity, and I was really surprised when the super came out.
That was like a 40 match set though, so don’t bother watching unless you really feel like sitting through dozens of them to get to the one match.
I told someone else already: watch Japanese Ken players. There’s a distinct difference in how long they wait before they cancel the normal depending on whether they’re punishing something/option-selecting it or trying to confirm it. There’s a bunch of videos of Hirai confirming Ryu’s c. MK into SA2 over and over as well.
Even in that Kuroda DVD trailer released a while back. There’s a segment where his Ken is just walking back and forth against a cornered opponent, poking carefully with c. MK. The long intervals between each one makes it pretty obvious that he’s trying to confirm it.
On a related note, Q players also confirm s. MK into super/slaps, and that shit is almost as hard. Kuroda does it several times in his matches against Georgia, and TM does it on his opponent’s wake-up a lot.
My confirm is actually pretty consistent when I’m just playing with friends or the CPU. It’s just that when I’m playing anyone who’s actually good. I tend to eschew trying it in favor of just playing it safe. Rather just EX hadou if I’ve got a good feeling about it hitting.
Once again, if you don’t believe that it’s confirmable, go play Exodus and tell him to go all out on you. Macumazahn’s confirm is pretty decent too.
That being said, it’s definitely one of the hardest confirms in the game and not one you’re gonna be hitting 100%. It’s not essential to having a good Ken, but he becomes VERY scary past mid-screen if you can do it.
idk tenren’s ibuki and makoto are monsters…his ibuki especially…it would be nice to see them 2 play…other than thats about as top players as you can find…as well as harmonaz too but thats it
QFT…Exo can confirm low mk super anyday of the week…he’s done it to me back when we practiced before ranbats…he doesnt rly need to go ALL out though in order to do it…but yeah Kyokuji is right…you definately can confirm it :tup:
Xsonicc can confirm Ken’s low forward too. When he’s serious, he does it with almost 100% reliability.
When I beat him sometimes he like “Ok, now I’m goin to confirm my Ken’s c.MK 100%”.
Needles to say, theres a high chance he’ll do it. So it’s not impossible, but I wont disagree that it is really difficult.
All 3 of us use red Ibuki too. Ibukis best color is used by every fucking one. I hate that shit. I’m changing my 2df name and switching to green Ibuki (ARUKA!).
