I can’t do this raw without buffering from short, I have no idea how people manage that. What the fuck am I doing wrong? It’s frustrating.
Edit -
So I’m still training it, I can somewhat do cr.mk xx SA3 now. Which is huge, but I’m not even sure why I’m landing it. I just don’t know where I’m going wrong and why this is so difficult for me.
supers in 3s can end on d/f, but the first qcf must be full. ive heard that in sf4, its the other way around. maybe somebody can turn on input display in sf4 to confirm that. if this is true, then maybe your first qcfs are not complete.
thats about all that could be wrong. if you cant do c.mk xx super in 3s, i don’t know how you play fighting games. the super motion can be done pretty slowly in this combo, and you can press all three kicks at once or in succession. maybe try holding the final direction (f or d/f, but the former is preferred) when pressing the button(s).
I can play fighting games as far as things like Xrd, MvC3, MKX and SF4 go, but idk anymore. I really like 3rd Strike and how it plays more than all of them so I picked up FightCade. I’m currently sitting around 3000pp on PS4/PC with SF4 so I THINK I can play fighting games? I’m seriously questioning my ability at them now. I can do everything in SF4, MvC, MKX and Xrd without problem but something as simple as this is causing me such large issues? I honestly cannot hit cr.mk xx super, even with buffers. My inputs are clean, I’m tracking them via the game input display, I have no idea why this isn’t working
Old games buffers just aren’t as friendly to messy inputs. Coming from this where you literally almost can’t get motions you don’t want to literally CORRECT motions giving you the wrong thing because of buffer windows is the reason a lot of us old fogey’s were annoyed with SFIV at first as we had to learn weird execution tricks to get the game to work for us.
Use the buffer methods on the lights and everytime you do cr. MK buffer the super but only press the button if you get it. Every person I have ever talked to has used this method in 3S. Make sure your button presses are crisp or you could get an accidental negative edge, but in general the buffer is quite a bit smaller in this game to the point I never had any issues with this as generally by the time your cancellable frames have ended your in recovery frames and by the end of those the buffer has lost the super input. So you can either confirm with the negative edge or let go later if you see it is blocked, whatever you find more consistent.
Personally I don’t think Ken’s confirms are doable at a high level without this technique. It is hard though and you’ll have to get used to hit animation / sound effects to be able to do them consistently but I could do them almost every time on GGPO back in 2008/2009. A lot of the time you can just use it because you have a whiff hit confirm, but it is possible to do.
My advice to you is just not to mindfuck yourself. That’s what it sounds like you’re doing, to be completely honest. It may not be the best advice, but this is an easier thing. Practice doing Ken’s super from a down stick position without the normal. Then do the normal and buffer it.
If all else fails, try to practice it with Chun Li. If you can do cr. forward xx super with Chun then you know you’re doing the motion right and you just need to tighten up your timing.
Also, Cr. short is harder. Practice it with cr. mk until you’ve got that down pat, and then try it with short.
Have you tried it from player 2 side?
If that works without a problem it might be you being a palm player.
The 2xQCF motions are a lot easier to do clean if you only use your index, thumb and middlefinger to move the stick.
If the force comes from the palm it’s much more difficult to do dual qcf’s from the P1 side.
Just slow shit down and slowly increase the speed. I needed like 5 days until I could do TCxxSA3 with Ken in 3S.
You can also try to add in a fireball between cr.MK xx Super, or TC xx Super and see if that works better.
Personally I think just cancelling to SA3 with Ken is easier after the two cr. shorts, no buffer. It’s simpler and easier once you can execute.
Buffering doesn’t give you any more time to hitconfirm, by the way. It’s personal preference. The thing is- right now you don’t have a personal preference. And being able to execute the super entirely after the crouching shorts is a skill that you will want to have later in many other situations, and with other characters. Practice it a little every time you play and eventually it will become easy.
Start with mp,hp x hadouken xx SA3. You can practice buffering here nice and slowly. The QCF from the hadouken will count as the first QCF for the super.
The best advice is to practice things like this slowly and accurately, then speed up until it works.
