3rd Strike hitbox display in MAME

Hitboxes are crazy tight/accurate/well-placed…Beautiful.

but how exactly can we apply this patch?
i tried to do this command

e:\mame\mame.exe patch -p1 -E < mameserver-0.135u2.patch

but gives me this error: unknown option -p1

“patch” is a program to apply a patch file to a set of source code files to update them in some way. The patch is for the 0.135 source code from http://mamedev.org/ If you’re not a programmer then you probably don’t want it.

If you want to give it a shot anyway just follow the “Easy Way” guide to build tools here: http://mamedev.org/tools/ and run my patch before running mingw32-make

Also, I’m running this on VISTA, with firefox (10+ tabs open) and a crapload of stuff running in the background on a freaking 2.2GHz Sempron without any framedrops and slowdowns. If you really find this bulky, it’s time to buy a new PC.

EDIT: I did a quick test and there’s no input delay at all. Press P, hold any attack button, then press shift+p to advance a frame. You can see the move starting up as soon as you advance the frame. Try Sean’s standing fierce since it moves the hit boxes a lot on the first frame.

And to go frame by frame, you need to make the MAME.ini (go to command prompt, and type “LocalWhereMameIs\mame.exe -cc” which means createconfig)

Then, open MAME.ini and look for "# CORE PERFORMANCE OPTIONS"
Change “speed” to any parameter that you want. I chose 0.5 and runs slow enough, but you can change it to 0.2, it would be very fukin damn slow :wow:

Why does mame need chd? I play 3s on FBA emulator without it, dammit.

Of course you can, you’re playing a no CD set for fuck’s sake. Also, if you had at least tried LennethEX’s build you would know the version of 3s it runs is the same version GGPO and 2DF supports, unless you’re doing something wrong, like not reading the thread.

I cant play any version of 3s on MAME. I’m having same problems with many others games on MAME. Looks like I actually need chd file for 3s.

No, you really don’t need the CHD to play no CD sets. You’re likely using outdated ROMs.

It’s NO CD and I can’t play it on MAME. This hitbox feature is only reason why you should play 3s on MAME. It’s not even emulated properly. FBA owns MAME.

No, the CPS3 emulation in MAME is more accurate than in FBA, FBA has a lot of hacks and “assumptions” in the code. Also, just rename sfiii3n to sfiii3an.

Renaming it made it playable, however I can’t play on 2DF and GGPO if I keep using that renamed rom. Thanks anyway. I will see if clrmamepro can help me with other roms for Mame.

I didn’t notice anything that Mame has over FBA emulator except more lag in CPS3 games and worse online client. Just get FBA-rr and you can load bunch of scripts, including hitbox display.

I tested these hitboxes and they don’t seem to show correctly. After Dudley is thrown on the ground, his hitbox is not shown even though Ryu can hit him with SA2.

Bah, it’s not like it’s hard to parry but I find it curious…

Might be just on my end, but the data shown for the hit boxes is appearing before the actual frame it applies to by one frame, since (I’m guessing) the in-game graphics are updating one frame late. Is it possible to delay the hit boxes shown so they match up?

The hitboxes are correct (it matches up with frame data) it’s just that the hit animation starts like a frame after the actual hit for both the attacker and the defender. There is a problem with hurtboxes not showing on limbs/attacks, most obvious is Necro’s st.hp. Still great work LennethEX.

Maybe those are just collision (blue) being displayed under hit (green)? Would be nice if such intersections used a different color.

The problem isn’t only when the green box is visible but also in it’s startup and recovery frames. All characters have 4 hurtboxes (head, upper bode, mid section, legs) when they are just moving around and it seems like there sometimes should be a 5th for their arms/legs when they’re attacking. The easiest way to see what I mean is just to have Necros st.hp parried and hit his arm fullscreen even though the hurtbox only shows at Necro’s body)
