Did that Yandere Lord guy talking to lowtiergoof just say Gootecks is a legend, and compared him to a real HF/MK2 legend like Rocky Rose? Hahahaha that’s the funniest part out of the whole conversation.
Just one of those things that dumb things dumb people who don’t give 3s a chance say, like the game has no footsies, wakeup game, you can’t anti air etc. which of course is the bullshit it’s just those elements aren’t as 1 dimensional in 3rd Strike and requires you to actually think about everything you do so when you scratch the surface you obviously can’t see the depth. Ah well…
Wasn’t there a 10 year old who was really good at KoF XIII?
A one off kid who is really good at a game doesn’t say much of anything about the game’s quality. This GameStop thing was stupid, but apparently it was for a commercial. Maybe they should’ve put up big banners saying “THIS ISN’T REAL, NOBODY PAY ATTENTION TO THIS”.
did people complain about C/Y/K often?
was there a general disdain for console and online everywhere or was this mainly just in so cal?
how much cross-pollination was there among scenes? IE did Nor Cal and So Cal play a lot, did east coast players get together, did east coast play west coast very often, etc?
how were Austin and Toronto scenes perceived in the big picture? I gather they had some strong players but I don’t know much besides that.
when did Pyrolee come into his own and once he did, did he pretty much always win or were there periods of time where other players were winning more?
how good is Hsien Chang?
how did the availability of game footage through youtube change things, if at all?
what’s the deal with Nebraska?
are there any interesting stories about what people thought about the tier lists back then? were there any big differences then vs now?
what was the scene like for players who joined with the Daigo parry? was it welcoming, abrasive, somewhere in between?
if anyone wants to answer any of those that would be cool lol. or you could skip the boring ones and only answer the ones that you think are interesting. let’s gather around the campfire.
not really. Everyone was too busy getting good at beating them.
There was just the valid affirmation that it was very much different and that console wasn’t quite worth it.
The cool kids mingled but most others were left out. I myself have only played Rom and the likes a couple of times and those were all in tournament.
They were known for the big names, cept Canada. No one really paid attention to Canada because they liked keeping to themselves. Must’ve been Pyro.
I can’t answer this. Pyro was always one of the big dogs, if not the biggest from my point of entry.
I recall him being good but he is also before my time.
youtube wasn’t a thing, really, until the sf4 scene. Everyone was so serious about it that they’d instead opted to make their own websites and host on personal servers.
I heard talk of them as more of a venue than a collection of players.
The talk was usually pretty much a recognition of Japanese tier lists as solid ground for debate. SRK has always been a hovel of talk regarding tier lists but I wouldn’t say anyone else seemed to want to prove their opinion more than they do here.
It was fucking awesome. They were inviting as hell and even made time to critique us lesser players in very specific to the player ways. I made some really good friends through this community, it’s just a shame that we all live so far apart.
I’m sure @pyrolee would love to tell his legend in his own words, and there’s not many people around who have been playing as long as him. from my time at FFA, pyro and amir had alternating periods of dominance, but you only need to look at the SBO teams of past to know pyro won the big ones. pyro and amir together was always the ffa dream team that never was. one thing I do remember is pyro was at FFA practicing more than anyone.
yeah 3s in socal when i started was pretty great, no doubt about it. there must have been close to 2 dozen places with 3rd machines and unique active crowds in the greater LA area. but the serious players flocked to FFA for its tournaments. and in those days, it was gootecks running the tournaments lol
dander weren’t you playing gold alex in those days?
oh yeah, and 3sJunkies was a myspace group back in the day too, also created by eric x chin. but i was just a high parry scrub that hadnt proven my worth yet to the chin dynasty in those days
[details=Spoiler]I lost about 25 games in a row to a really good 3s player named Yuuki at my local arcade. These were beat downs. Like…not even close. As if the countless hours I had put into the game didn’t matter at all. I got so discouraged that I went home, grabbed my Xbox, came back and gave it to him because I knew he wanted one to practice in training mode. I quit the game on the spot.
Tldr: I was so salty I gave away my Xbox and quit the game.
I came back after a week, used a Dreamcast emulator for training mode lol.[/details]
