Me and my friends were playing around with Gief and I didnt know the command for the Powerbomb. I knew it was a kick, so i tried 180 motions. At one point i did Fei Long’s chicken feet motion and i managed to pull the powerbomb off. I later retried it again and it worked. I also did that motion and pulled off his ultra 4-5 times consecutively. I used my fightstick, and im just trying to confirm if its working on anything else and try to contribute to the community
ps
hopefully this isnt a repost, im not very good at searching

oh thats it?

That’s it.

For future reference when you’re playing the game, you can pause which brings up a menu screen. On that screen is an option entitled Command List. In it is a full description of all the moves of any character in the game which require pressing more than just a single button. Upon selecting Command List from the menu it will default select the character you are currently playing as. Once you’re in the command list screen you can navigate it by using your joystick to move down to view additional moves on the first page or left and right to view available throws, super combo moves, and ultra combo moves. I hope this is helpful in your future endeavors in this game.

I shall +1 u for that information!

G
I thought the game only showed the “O.G.” ways of doinng moves - not the shortcuts…never looked for Gief…

We might need to start a new to gief beginners thread if this is new to people on the gief board.

About the shortcut motion…

One thing i haven’t adjusted to since moving to stick is using the shortcut from a down back position, esp on the square gate.

Played around with going from down-back > back > then the 360 shortcut, but just doesn’t have a good flow. I also try sometimes from down-back > yoga flame > then up-back, but this is much slower over all esp when you need every frame you can spare to get the grab.

What do some of you Giefers do?

if you start from db, you don’t have to go back then to forward; start from db and go all the way up.
in other words, do db,d,df,f,uf,u+P just do it fast.

Yeah, i know but on the square gate i get “stuck” in the corner. And this motion has 2 jump commands instead of just one. I guess there isn’t much other options.

Funny thing is on a pad, I’d always do nearly full 360’s without a hitch.

It get’s said a lot on this forum, but the answer to that is practice. It sounds like you’re in your infancy with a stick and as such are focusing really hard on the motion itself which is cause you to ride the gate. In general you will find this to be horribly inefficient on a square gate like a TE which I would assume is what you’re using.

You have two options. The best one is to sit in training mode and practice doing reversal 360’s in a predictable situation starting from down back. One of the best ways to practice getting the motion out quickly as well is tick throw practice setting the computer to block everything and then getting in ticking some jabs or some such then going to your SPD. The more you practice the better you’ll get. It will literally get to the point where you can throw out the 360 shortcut no matter where you are with little to no chance of missing the motion.

The other option is to invest your money in modding your TE or custom with an octagonal gate so that you can comfortably ride it without consequence. Churning the butter definitely feels more comfortable on an octagon if you’re trying to get tensile feedback from your stick.

hmm, I wonder how much Gief’s footsy game would change if he didn’t have the short-cut…standing 360 is doable I mean, but it would make things more interesting.

Let’s not go backwards. Most of the gief forum is already a collection of beginner threads. I would rather see an advanced gief strats thread. I’m tired of coming here and seeing topics like “is c.lk still good” or “how to do cr. lariat properly.” That stuff has been covered 10000x.

I know you may respond by telling me to start an advanced thread myself, but honestly I’m just afraid it’s gonna get no love because really gief is a simple character with no potential for new techniques imo; but I’d love to be proven otherwise. The only thing left to explore really is new meaty o-s strats which usually will be some variation of hand/exhand

It is funny, but I was trying to remember the last time I held down back with Gief.

I am just joking of course, but I really like jasonC’s suggestion of a slightly deeper thread. He and I had a pretty good IRL conversation about if using meter for EX-Suplex is worth it post-crumple vs. retaining that meter for EX-GH. chosen_one23’s strategy and matchup first page is good, but needs updating for character specific sections (nothing on Ryu, Claw etc…)maybe a simple sticky for the elusive SPD wouldn’t hurt though.

Man, and I thougt the cr.lk combo thread was advanced. Well, theory fighter but still exploration of Super Gief gameplay versus just asking “how do I SPD”?

I totally understand that for the OG’s of srk seeing these questions asked over and over is annoying as all bloody hell, but its not like everything is easy to find and new members join like daily. Wish there was a balance in between.

Actually, 2 threads could be created. I think I saw this is another character thread. One for Gief n00bey questions, one for intermediate to advanced gamplay. Threads opened to discuss outside these threads could then be closed.

A seimitsu modded MC SE actually. Your feedback is well appreciated by the way.

shrug If I had time and the ‘powah’ there would be a Gief FAQ Threard; Character specific match-up threads (I know its alot of threads, but it would GREATLY reduce the number of times someone ask a question - especially if tagged in the FAQ, and then Gief advance strats. That simple…

Every time this discussion comes up on “stick” play… I always hear “don’t ride the gate”. The 360 motion/720 never works, unless I ride it (at least during the “down” part of the motion). How do you guys get this to work without even touching the gate?

Practice.
