[3/19/10] NYC Chinatown Fairs - SFIV 2v2 Tournament #5 @ 7pm

OMG, JUSTINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!! see you tonight man.

Justin is not coming to the tournament.

i like 3v3

Another option is something I experienced in Japan which was cool, where a known player teams with a beginner, and the beginner always goes first.

I’m gonna be on Andy’s ass to enforce the time limit, so don’t be late without calling ahead and giving us an ETA. If you arrive past your ETA and no other matches can be played, you will forfeit your match and still be required to pay the entry fee. If you refuse or fail to show up at all, you will never be able to call ahead again.

It’s a standard problem that tournaments that should take 3-4 hours take an entire day. 64 man Battlefield tournaments should be able to start at 7pm and end by 11pm using 4 setups. Teams would take half this time. Now that the weather is nice, I won’t be able to sacrifice entire weekends anymore because I have to spend it with my wife. If I could arrive at the posted start time, play for 3 hours, than leave, that would be amazing (even though it should be normal!), not just for me, but for everyone!

Any word on it being 3v3 or 2v2? We need a final word. Seems to be 2v2 until Andy confirms. 3v3 would be kind of a lifesave since I have no 2v2 partner for tonight I could just join up with a previous 2v2 that now needs one more. But then again that can pose more problems since it is so last minute…anyway I’ll wait from the final word from Andy.

…lol.

3v3 would be fun in my opinion as well. I have a feeling it’ll be resolved spur of the moment at CTF before the tourney starts based on how many people show up.

That actually sounds pretty awesome, but do you think the pros here would sacrifice and team with someone not as good especially if there’s money on the line? I think it’s a great idea and a good way to build up the community, instead of having pro teams play beginner/intermediate teams then say they suck afterwards. Once and awhile to keep things fresh.

That would be awesome. With tonamento, 4 setups, and a stricter start time I see no reason why these shouldn’t take 4-5 hours max. It’s pretty grueling to wake up at like 10 then have a tourney finish up at like 8-9pm…

Aw no JWo?? boo… Anyway I still need a pardner

I posted on the last page I’m looking for one. Who do you play?

lol
make the 3 on 3 for sunday :]
i work today i will probably get there by 9?

I’ll be at cf around 5 so if anyone needs a partner then just talk to me I’ll be in brown shirt with jeans and a black backpack. I play balrog/chun/ken lol.

Me and PR Rog are at the arc right now. Just landed. If its 3v3 its going to be me/prrog/triforce See everyone at 7pm. Lets run that Thai Son after thanks

you guys should come regardless, it would be nice to chill with yall one more time before i get shipped out on tuesday

What is Justin randomly doing at my house with PR Balrog? What do you know that PR Balrog wants to leave vvv to join EMP.

this 3v3 and 2v2 shit in tournies is gay, whatever happened to one on one fighting.these rigged rules have taken the fun out of tournies because all the champs play on the same team.if your going to run a tournie like that put everyones name in a hat and then pull it out and put people together like that so this way theres a fair chance.

i know people are going to hate on that idea or call me a noob and shit like that but you know im right.think about it,why should(and im not knocking them for being good im just saying) justing/sanford/yipes be on a team togther while three other people are on a team, thats totally unfair and also makes it look like a rigged tournie, the likely hood of beating a team like that isnt very high(and that just an example)

I can’t speak for other team tournaments but I’m singling you out specifically because you’ve suggested that the Empire tournaments are rigged and I just feel like flaming you and putting some real stuff on the table at your expense for the community to get a clear understanding of what it really is. Here is where I disagree with you. In all the BattleField’s that I’ve run I seen 1 time that the Empire had “Stacked” teams such as Sanford, Andre and Rashaan. The last time I ran a BattleField Tournament I purposely “WEAKEN” the teams to give people a fair shot at winning. However this has two issue associated with this. Let’s go over these issues.

Empire Arcadia:
The Empire is not new to this community…it’s been here for quite some time and you have to keep in mind that as the CEO and Founder of the company I am always going to want my players and teams to win. However I unlike many others will not stack up teams and rig brackets to get the job done. Let’s go through the reasons WHY

  1. FIRST AND FOREMOST! Cheating in any manner like that would look bad on the Company’s name, integrity and image. I worked to hard to get the Empire to this point to start rigging tournaments that I know my guys can win and spoiling the name.

  2. Gamers will feel that they can not go to a Empire tournament without feeling that not only are the players good but then they are getting cheated, thus not making them want to come. Why would I care about this you ask? Because (yeah I started the sentence with because) without the players, casual, scrubs, semi pro and pro players there is no scene. No scene equals no growth, not entertainment, no passion…ultimately no $$$$

  3. Hurting the name of the company with stupid moves like that makes it harder for the Empire to help support other communities and their games, hurting our personal mission statement which is to bring gaming back to its origins and then professionally in terms of us being a development company.

Community

  1. Weakening the Empire teams at tournaments have a positive and negative affect that I’m carefully watching. I’m not sure if you notice but regardless of who we think are good are not, there are players in this community that are true “WARRIORS”. That sandbag crap doesn’t rock well with them. I’ll give you a prime example. When we unbanned Justin and he decided to play with Rose, some players rather Justin fight with his all against them than to play some powered down Justin Wong. Its called Warriors Pride. The money doesn’t mean anything to them. Its the respect. Thus I have to becareful of not “UNDER POWERING EMP TEAMS

  2. Under powering EMP teams not only hurts the Empire but it actually hurts the immediate scene. People want to win so badly that they will rather fight a under powered team just to get the W. That is a true shame, I have only this to say to those players…if the W means that much to you…that you would want to play someone that has pitty for you and sandbag, then you should really reconsider competing, UNLESS, you just do this solely for the passion and just want to compete and play just for the love of playing. However…if that is the case then what are you complaining about? You are playing…thus making that point mute. If you’re not going to come beat down or get beat down, then don’t come at all. This is the Empire State, there aren’t suppose to be any BITCH ASS GAMERS IN THIS STATE. EMPIRE OR NOT!

  3. Making this interesting and bringing hype along with Drama is our job. Its apart of developing the scene, thus we do things like putting a player in the Empire that’s not good on a powered up team. Yes it does handicap the team but at the same time it doesn’t make it free either, giving gamers a chance to grow at a steady pace throughout the competition. In the next BattleField that I’m running we are introducing some Valkyries that want to get into fighting games seriously. StarSlay3r who is from Cali is here to test her mantel against some of the East Coast Finest. Give her no quarter, this isn’t some west coast bitch shit. (pop off, enjoy it don’t take it seriously or personally) We want he to get better to expand competitive gaming as one universal activity. Not something that lable’s us as Male gamers and Female Gamers. Thus in order for her to learn we got to get it in with her.

A female gamer from Chi town called Burnyourbra will be at BattleField Arcadia tomorrow and she is a Ken player. Not to mention 3 more Valkyries along with StarSlay3r; which is Persia, Brynhild and Rozemaiden all who are looking to learn the game seriously. They’re not here on some MLG pro hoe shit. They want to learn to play to Get it in with the boys, so its our obligation to put our shit to the side and teach them. Besides…Evo is coming up…we need some pro female gamers of our own to win it or at least come top 3 at the Ladies of SF4 tournament.

In that is why I’m putting them on power teams of the Empire to compete at BatteField. Its not to weaken the Empire but make things interesting.

Step your game up?
I dunno just a suggestion
What happened to the semi old days where people actually played the game instead of complaining? I’m just noticing a growing trend compared to say 2000 - 2004 ish.

Nick T. the closer this gets to mainstream…the worst its going to get. Buckle up.
