I’ve been in the lab with this cycle’s team, but aside from that also testing out V-Joe, why do I not see people use his shocking pink bomb in the rare situations I see people playing Viewtiful Joe? It’s super strong and has a lot of applications for, pressure, controlling space, and combos.

I’d imagine it’s because they’re offput by the potential damage it causes him. I think it should be used more. It’s really unique.

Just was testing with shocking pink, if you use something like disruptor to put someone in block stun you can get out a voomerang and a detonation shocking pink, if you use assists and voomerangs to keep the shocking pink in the right place I think it lets you hit confirm from everywhere on the screen pretty reasonably, and because of how it works you can use the bomb too change weird things that normally don’t have enough time to confirm into one just by placing a pink in the right area. His charging stuff is harder than Zero’s however and since most people seem to lazy to even learn that comparatively easy character I doubt we’ll see much Joe despite the fact that Shocking Pink is pretty OP.

I think Joe’s roughly at Wesker’s level, so he’s definitely worth knowing and caring.

Yeah it’s just if something else is already working for people…they’re just going to stick with it. Someone has to like go out and prove that throwing pink bomb is going to make Dieminion’s Joe lose far less than if he doesn’t use it.

Plus like 2.5 people use Joe. He’s pretty much a point only character so that limits the amount of people that would pick him up also.

If he used Joe Bomb especially with how he plays I think it would greatly benefit him. Being able to just keep a potential hitbox hovering in a location is pretty awesome. I think if someone gets good at positioning Joe’s Bomb that it should body every ground based character who isn’t Viper/Vergil.

If it’s harder to implement than Zero’s stuff that’s not going to help. Though I see the potential in the space control and comfirms. Joe is already pretty oppressive at is without that.

It’s harder, but Zero isn’t that hard. Once someone invests the time into the character there’ll be a lot of people getting exposed.

Unfortunately that’ll take a character specialist so that’ll take a long time if ever.

Joe player here. I understand what your getting at, but when put into practice I don’t think Shocking Pink is OP at all. Joe needs all his buttons, and using one for Shocking Pink detonation means giving up a type of voomerang/red hot kick and the use of some of his normals. Zero can get away with a dedicated charge button since he doesn’t rely on his light attacks, Joe cannot. Also, in most situations where you are setting up a shocking pink you were probably better off just trying to charge up a voomerang instead. Shocking Pink is difficult to use in combos due to the fact that you can get hit by the explosion, and for the most part specific assist are needed to use it in combos. As an assist I think Shocking Pink is extremely good, but I’m not sold on its potential on point.

i dont think thor is slow, his ground normals are slow but his overall movement is high tier. magneto cr.L is out in 6 frames, thor cr.L is out in 7 frames so its not such a big difference; his launcher is -6 on block, and is safe when used well spaced, his cr.M is also almost always safe. Spark L is always safe when thor is next to the other character (+5 on block), and thor can cancel whatever whiff into mighty punish so his ground game is not that unsafe. I play Thor with coldstar, bolts or missiles and i usually open up people with his tridash rushdown; his j.L is out in 6 frames and is very ambiguous, and you can fake a j.L with j.M or j.H and go into cr.L. Thor real weakness are characters that can put hitboxes at fullscreen distance that outclass mighty spark L, his tridash movement and the speed of mighty strike (21 frames of startup). For example, Deadpool, Hawkeye, Zero, Modok, Dormammu, etc. other than that, he is very solid; He can solve that weakness with Bolts of balthakk, Plasma beam, Unibeam, etc. People calling thor a weak haggar or a weak hulk have no idea of what they are talking about, they are completely different characters, thor can also play footsies with mighty strike and spark so his defensive game is very high tier too, he can play a lame game that can outplay morrigan or dante for example.

Overall i think Thor teams will always be relevant at high level play (if there were any). He has tools to play against anybody. So imo thor is like a top 20 point char, possibly top 15

Plus you can’t precisely control where the bomb goes. Any normal, special, super, projectile, whatever hitting the bomb will cause it to bounce away. Though I don’t think the charging wouldn’t be too unfeasible. They gave Joe the ability to change which button he’s using to charge, so you don’t have to commit to giving up a button till the bomb detonates. It’ll still be really hard to implement in practice (especially for pad players like me), but I don’t think it’s necessarily something that would limit him. I’m just concerned how truly beneficial it would be for Joe to use.

It would be great to keep on the screen after a TK 6 cannon in the corner.
Seeing as how the opponent recovers faster then Joe does. Even then its in a good spot to blow up w/e they try to do.

…So is MODOK the only character in the game that airdash from the ground?

I’m still baffled on why he is allowed to do this…

Shoutzoula(sp?) was talking about that in this thread a few weeks/months ago. Regarding no Joe player really abusing shocking pink considering how stupid it is being a medium durability projectile that Joe has more control over due to the speed of his voomerang spam.

That being said, how it usually works is the character with faster projectile spam will win the Joe Bomb war, So it’s only truly effective vs characters he already beats in neutral in the first place.

I’m glad you are experimenting with Joe and seeing how stupid the character really is. He’s top 15 imo and isn’t that far from Wesker/Spencer/Wolverine levels. Just most players run very unoptimized teams for him.
