2015 UMVC3 SRK Tier/Theory Discussion. 7/10 First Page Tumblr: Power of snapback, Future power teams

Almost everyone can guardbreak against push block, as pushblock in this game has a punishable window where the opponent can’t tech throws. An easy way to demonstrate this, is go into training mode, set the dummy to block all, pushblock all, and tech throws, then pick firebrand, and get close and do ioh j.LxxL Hell dive, and grab as soon as you touch the ground.

That’s the one. You have to do it right away and can’t react as far as I know.

Should I make a list of all characters that I am certain can guard break without assists? Anyone can do it with Jam session.

As far as assists go it’s not really going to matter how much durability the beam assists have. Beam assists can’t shoot at the actual missiles any ways. All you really need is “did the beam hit Doom before more than 2 missiles released?” Which most beam assists can do that. Bolts is specifically very strong for this since it shoots 2 beams that have decent active frames and cover the entire horizontal screen quickly.

Not that it matters against missiles specifically but each beam has 8 points of durability. If it does come in contact with a soul fist it’ll absorb the soul fist and still have 3 points of durability and retain the same damage if it hits Morrigan or Doom. Whereas a multi hit beam assist like plasma beam or unibeam will only do 3 hits and do less damage. Which since Morrigan is mostly going to be shooting fireballs before AV from the air any ways, the point character is going to have to do most of the work dealing with Morrigan’s fireballs. Beam assists are only really good for sniping Doom once the point character has cleared up the projectiles with their own spam early on.

The only assist I’ve found that’s really strong for dealing with Morrigan’s projectiles specifiaclly is jam session or repulsor blast. Jam session activates quickly and the vertical pillar hits at the angle you need to absorb soul fists shot from the air regularly. Which if you’re playing my team at the start of round you can just go for an alpha strike of seismo laser seismo laser while bolts basically gives you an extra 2 lasers on top of your lasers or jam session creates a pillar that can absorb both morri fireballs and hidden missiles. Jam Session is one of the few projectile assists that can actually trade or clear up missiles once they already release. Other typical beam assists have to beat Doom to his release.

I’ve pretty much designed my team specifically to be able to outshoot Morrigan at the start of the round. The only issue is that now that people have picked up on putting Vergil second…you have to kill Morrigan before she gets two meters or she will DHC into (theoretically) infinite meter Vergil. And then you’re fucked.

Doesn’t this only work if they pushblock all the hits of Raikousen? Maybe I’m wrong though, idk.

Yeah, I always forget about Bolts when beam assists come up. I do think that the only chance you’ll have to beat a good Morrigan is at the start of the round, and your team should have a retardedly good start of round on paper.

Right and I think PR Rog did a good job showing that it’s really not that difficult to just get popping off with your hot shit first. It takes so long for Morrigan on point to really rev up for a game like Marvel 3. As more people start to figure that out it’ll get easier.

That’s too fair :frowning:

Okay, so, solo guardbreaks only work vs pushblock, and the characters I’ve tested that can do it solo are Mags (vs incoming or grounded), Sentinel ( vs incoming), Dooooooooooooooooooom (vs incoming), Vergil (vs grounded late pushblock, possibly incoming as well), and M.O.D.O.K. (vs incoming, but his is the unblockable setup)

Edit:Thor can Guardbreak anyone, anywhere, with anything.

As long as the point has something to protect the Drones call it’s good enough to use against most teams that aren’t Morridoom. It’s pretty much impossible to protect the Drones call against Astral Vision Soul Fists.

Personally, I don’t like Drones because they’re unreliable to use as cover to get in. To reliably get Drones out so that you can follow them in you need a fast fullscreen projectile to create blockstun (e.g. Disrupter); a big armored, forward moving body (e.g. Nova Cent Rush H, Hulk Gamma Charge); or a fast side switch (Skrull Meteor Smash). You can oftentimes get by with a fast horizontal attack (e.g. Wolverine B. Slash H, Nova Cent Rush L) but this is more prone to failure. If you call Drones fullscreen they’lI completely whiff the opponent because of their angle. Drones really shines when it’s called during a blockstring.

Drones matches up poorly against flood characters and some highly mobile characters and any team with Plasma Beam. Counter called Plasma Beam eliminates all of the Drones. Flood characters crush Sentinel when he’s called. Here’s some characters besides Morrigan that should give Drones players a fit: Hawkeye, Dormammu, Viewtiful Joe, Wesker (superjump gunshots hit Sent a lot), Dr. Strange, Deadpool, Strider, Zero, Rocket Raccoon. I might’ve left some people out. In addition, Rocket Raccoon’s Spitfire assist can make calling Drones really tough too. It’s so low to the ground that it’ll slip under Drones and bop Sentinel. Spitfire assist is really good. To be fair, you don’t see a ton of point play from those characters which may explain why Drones is still largely effective. There is a fair amount of Plasma Beam out there though.

Drones is a good enough assist on a team that’s set up to protect it and mixup with it. In addition, some players (Infrit, Fanatiq, Ray Ray) make point Sent look solid. However, I think Plasma Beam totally outclasses Drones and that most teams using Drones would be better off if people dropped Sent for Doom.

Smegma Beam may be derpier, but it doesn’t provide mixups for as many characters as droooooooooooooooooooooones. People should learn Dooooooooooooooooooom though, he’s top 3 free.

Thor actually does have a solo guard brake though its really hard to time.

You do tridash df+l so it hits right as they are coming in and then you tk airgrab, never tried to but you may have time to dash cancel airgrab to avoid push block too… only issue is its really hard to time, though it should work if they take the hit or not…

edit:

Forgot to say that you need to be on the downward decent of tridash L and I never really explored it much beyond seeing it worked since the timing is tight.

close but no cigar.

Sent also has a solo guad break, Spencer and Doom also.

I did list sent, but I missed Spencer, but cause most people just get hit by dat arm.

it would seem that way but spidey’s web zip has to touch something before he can block, if spidey is throwing out web ball, he wants to be relatively close so he can capitalize off the capture… he can’t block during his regular air dash, also using web zip high in the leaves spidey floating until it hits something… shockwave pushes spidey across the screen… random shockwaves tend to hit spidey more often than not…

Since it seems like everyone has blocked me, I’d be more than happy to try and make a more complete list of characters with solo guardbreaks, but I’m pretty certain everyone can do it in some way or another, but everyone can definitely do it with assists.

That is much worse than I thought.

Saying shockwave destroy’s Spider Man’s game is like saying SoV destroy’s everyone’s game because infinite met0rz

just had a convo with footwurk on FB

Dante is a hard character and viper is only for nuts. this world.

Drones are viable against nearly every top team in the game sans, Morri/Doom, Viper/Beam assist, Dorm/Doom. They key is to tactically pick your assist calls, one of the only real problems with Drones is that if Sentinel is touched, the Drones are gone (it wasn’t the case in MvC2). If they had similar properties to Hidden Missiles (as the Drones would not go away if hit), then they would be either on par with Missiles or better than Missiles.

Unfortunately, that property is somewhat given to the Bombs assist. It’s a very underrated assist that can potentially work like either: a get-off-me-type of assist (sort of like Lariat/Gamma Charge) , a chip support assist (like Double Spitfire assist) , a combo breaker assist (like Missiles), or a mixup/lockdown assist (like Dr Strange Bolts).

In general, it really depends on your own team composition and your opponent’s team to determine whether or not Drones or Bombs are more useful.
