This kid was sick. Yes his mom may have made bad decisions with her trust in him but even if he hadn’t had a gun and never played cod something would have set him off. There is nothing in COD that tells kids to rape their mom. Games are not to blame.
That’s because when we were that age most kids weren’t pushed off in front of the TVs by their parents because they were too busy playing Farmville or whatever to you know…BE PARENTS!
Maybe the game is partly to blame, but it boils right back down to bad parenting. She gave him the game, the gun, and the time alone with the two to allow this to happen.
Not that I’m going to say she got what she deserved, but if Dad turns around and blames games solely on this, he ought to get Goro punched in the testicles and the throat.

Nawl, there were plenty of shithead parents back then too. In fact, this woman was probably lauded in her community for her old-school parenting, back when she was just the woman who gave her pubescent child a gun and not the woman whose pubescent son attempted to rape her and subsequently murdered her.
The trouble with assuming that this problem is somehow worse now than it used to be is that it necessarily demands an explanation for why it’s gotten worse–which is why you get people blaming video games. After all, if it’s worse now, then we have to look at recently occurring variables, and video games are one of those variables.
Every generation thinks its parents did a better job than the parents of the next generation, because every generation is convinced that the next generation is the start of an inexorable social decline. It’s basically unprovable. But if you give in to the temptation to panic over the perceived decay of society, then you’re throwing in your lot with the people who yell ZOMG VIDEO GAMES DID IT!! You may not support their argument, but you’re in support of the larger position that the argument is supposed to justify.
Just accept the real truth. Teenagers are dumb. Always have been, always will be. The middle of the bell curve is swollen with people who are too old to be cute, too young to be useful, who are psychologically smack-in-the-middle of the grey area between childish self-centeredness and the need for freedom that adults feel. At one end of that bell curve, you have teenagers who are actually sort of cool by anybody’s standards other than their own, and at the other end, you have the real fucking morons who kill their parents for taking away their toys.

Why is buying a gun for an 11 year old a terrible decision? I have a hunter friend who bought his girl a rifle when she was 10 and she could run circles around most people when it comes to gun safety and discharging of the fire arm. This is case of parent not being a responsible gun owner, and not a case of “11 year olds shouldn’t have guns.”
She gave a gun to a son that really didn’t like her, and she most likely didn’t hide the gun in a safe location where he couldn’t reach it.
Hence why i say it’s an issue of irresponsible parenting and gun ownership, and not an issue that he was 14 and the “owner” of a gun.
