Even if you killed him with the “justice” that fishjie and some others are calling for, he’s already won. Most people will eventually forget about the incident, sure, since they always do until something like it happens again to remind them or their direct victims of it. Still, his face will already be the last one that people remember before any of the actual victims, especially since he’ll probably still be alive.

It would actually be legitimately “hilarious” to people who like dark comedy, at least in the “oh, everything makes sense, I didn’t think mad scientists existed still” way. The news is basically digging around for “answers” anyway, might as well through them a bone, especially given the number of people in this country who are against (higher) education.

As for insanity defenses, yeah, that probably won’t work. Those pretty much never work though, even if the person is actually legitimately “disturbed” and has been off-and-on for a while, if not for an entire lifetime.

Also, depending on how you define “insanity”, especially if you’re including said sociopathy there, then he could very easily have been part of that neuroscience program and still been “insane”.

As for this turning out like the Casey Anthony case, that’s highly unlikely. The only “real” reason, (conspiracy) theories of her whiteness and femininity aside, that Casey Anthony got off was because the prosecution got overzealous with their charges. They went for the highly debatable murder charges rather than the utter “slam-dunk” of fatal neglect they could have made, partly because they probably wanted to become famous (and were idiots about it). Unless this suspect was magickally “neglecting” his living gun or somehow “accidentally” dressed up in full body armor and fired that many shots, there’s pretty much else they could charge him with except for several counts of (first degree) murder and attempted murder, which pretty much everyone already believes to be true.

The Zimmerman case has a hell of lot bigger chance of turning into Casey Anthony II than this case does unless literally everyone they pick on the jury wants to fuck the guy. If they do, then yeah, he’ll get off. [/lame joke]

i forgot to say this, but a few points about everyone trying to amp up the whole concealed carry shit

  1. in the midst of smoke, terror, and confusion, i dont want some wanna be hero shooting me on accident because he thinks hes a pro shooter because he can shoot cans in broad daylight under proper “normal” conditions.

  2. even in a concealed carry state, the amount of people who probably have guns on them might at best be 2-3 for that 12am showing, and who knows where they are going to sit. if anything they are probably paranoid type people so they will either be in the back cut waiting for something to pop off, or right near one of the 2-4 exits, unless its a big theatre that has an upstairs exit with stairs and an elevator.

  3. if lets say this concealed carrier only could get a seat in the middle, and this dude comes in doing what he does, that person is better off trying to escape then try to play hero and get shot, shoot someone else on accident when trying to shoot the shooter, or by falling when getting pushed by a mob of scared motherfuckers and his gun goes off while in his hand.

im just sayin, lets not sit here and front that if even two concealed carriers were there, they woulda been doing anything but trying to get the fuck out of there. at best, yes, if they were in the blind seats (from the projector to maybe 30 feet back, and had a good seat where they couldve popped up, taken aim, and fired on him before he could do anything, that would be great. lets just hope his first shot in a dark theatre is perfect, because the guy had on body armor also, which depending on what he got shot by, will still knock you on your ass, or at least take a knee, but if not and he missed, shit mightve turned even worse.

That said, as for him being from a religious family, it wouldn’t really surprise me. Most people in this nation are still (nominally) Christian. The majority of them will quickly bring it up to “show” that they “of course” have “morals” and have “values” and are “good” and whatever other bullshit that I’m sure we’re both used to between both being atheists and you being an apostate.

It’s highly unprecedented and the school didn’t perform the interviews that it normally does when a student drops out. in his cat he didn’t drop out, he quit, which makes it even more suspicious. That said, as much as I’ve chided and scolded people in general for not being alert, you can hardly blame in this instance most of the people there for thinking that this was some type of “stunt” by the theater given it was a premiere. Similarly, saying people should react more quickly to “odd behaviour” is far easier than said than done, especially since “odd behaviour” is incredibly vague and most of the time doesn’t lead to anything dangerous, much less this level of danger and death.

It’s why, despite loudly talking to themselves, most schizophrenics are generally a lot less dangerous than people think.

Calling for people to be more alert to “odd behaviour”, rather than just more alert in general, just tends to cause people to ostracize others they find (arbitrarily) odd even more and we already get enough baseless prosecution of people for not being “normal” as it is.

Even in this case, if they had instantly realized the gunman wasn’t part of the show, what could they have actually done? Panicked and trampled over each other even sooner? Try to take pop-shots (even though that’s what you are obviously arguing against)? Try to tackle someone in full-body armor with an assault rifle?

Alertness unfortunately wouldn’t have helped that many people in this case, if any, given how packed the movie theater was and how armored the suspect was.
