(11/20 PSN!) SG: Slightly Different Edition patch notes

You <can> create unranked matches. You’ll just have to do things manually (eg play a Bo5, then winner stays) rather than swapping after every match. Of course that’s not optimal, but it kinda works.

Afaik lobbies aren’t included with the patch because the guy who’d do them works on the PC version currently (priorities!).

Oh… Thank you for the kind reply though. I sure did hope for lobbies too, as I have alot of friends to play with but we have to “take turns”, and I’d have to live stream my matches to my friends can watch =( anyways. Good luck on the patch making it through!

Mike and i have an unusual posting history to one another and we tend to get on each others nerves a bit.

Having said that, yes the post was slightly offensive, but coming from mike to me it wasnt a huge surprise and it wasnt hurtful, one has to learn to have thick skin on srk or the wolves will eat you alive… This is the FIGHTING game community after all… We all think we know everything and are know it alls at the end of it…

Me myself im probably one of the worst at being offensively arrogant yet posting in 3rd grade english grammar… Ot can be annoying and i cant help but feel that in some way, shape or form, i deserved mikes ire… If not for that post that i made, then karma for some shit i said to someone either on srk or irl…

So no need to rescue me im a big boy though i do appreciate the kindness to strangers, its one of the things that has a high value for me when i meet people that have a high capacity for it.

Also even when he posts trollish responses, he usually has useful information embedded int the trolling… So to me its worth it to sludge through the crap to get to the good stuff… After all his longer cable solution though obvious was just what i needed as a suggestion… So in the end i left the interaction for the better.

About lobbies, and the other neat but not in the patch thing; replays. Is that stuff possible to implement on, say, the pc version seperately, or perhaps as dlc without breaking online play with clients that don’t have that functionality?

I don’t care much for replays, as I tend to record my own stuff. Lobbies with the ability for observers in the lobbie would be grand. But as Master Mike put it, wasn’t in the cards right now… I really look forward to when they do though =3 Specially since the game’s quite empty…

Mike, I was wondering about something in the patch and if you went through with it. You mentioned that to help with possible inaccurate ping tests that the team might change it so the system does 10 ping tests, then average them to give you a more accurate idea of the connection quality. Is that still in the works for the future, or was it implemented now, or not going to be implemented at all?

When they do lobbies i hope they dont go over say 5 man lobbies… I dont think anyone actually STAYS IN 8 man lobbies rather than just going to a different lobby. 8 man lobbies can mean up to a 25 minute wait and few people want to do that more than once so making an infrastructure that supports 8 man is a waste of resources imho.

Also, if they do have lobbies… Then i personally want the ability watch the other players play each other. If there is no spectate ability then i wont be in anything above 2-3 man lobbies, personally, and neither will many other people imho

anything over 4 spaces in a lobby is a waste of time IMO.

The only time ive found 8 man lobbies to be fun is when im in a room with players that are all better than me… I mean like world class players in sf4 or something where i can enjoy watching them fight. Or on streams when world class players sometimes get into 8 mans and go at it… But those are few and far between.

Yes 4 man lobbies would suffice for 99% of what people would play and there will still probablybe people that quit out and try to find a 2 man lobby or get next in a different room rather than wait 2 matches…

I feel 4~5 man lobbies are fine. I usually only do 8’s if it’s with me and a ton of friends BS’ing around. Those are always fun.

  • The ~576 MB is for PS3.

  • Variant pings, since we fixed GGPO the variance is a lot less of an issue now. I also found out that on PS3 it’s already the average of a few pings anyway. :^P

  • Replays would have required new UI and a bunch of extra testing / extra requirements to meet. The basic code has been there forever (we used it for FNFs and there’s dummy recording now) but there wasn’t nearly enough time for the extra work to make it pretty and bug-free. That’s a lot of game development…feature is easy, interface is prohibitively difficult. A lot of the constraints for the patch were “no new UI whenever possible” because y’know, got nobody to work on it…

  • Lobbies…well, in code there isn’t a lot of difference between a 2-person lobby and an 8-person lobby, but there’s a huge difference between “oh okay someone is here go launch the game” and making a UI for managing a room plus implementing spectating. We already have “lobbies” since you both enter a room to play, there’s just not an interface beyond that.
