i might add that XvSF is still better than a lot of fighters out there even though it’s 10 year’s after!
Shouldn’t the anniversary be based of COTA, since that started that subgenre of fighter?
I think they’re talking about the VS series. Tag system/team supers/1 round. COTA and MSH were not really part of the VS series imo.
All 5 games fall under the category of the Marvel series though.
But then again, that’s just my opinion.
Oh wow, whoever made that has some godly editing skills… for real
LMAO @ the pokemon parody TOO GOOD!!!:china:
I remember when I first saw XvsSF in the arcades and I nearly had a seizure when I saw Ryu and Cyclops go in for an electric-charged super handshake!:wasted: It was like I created the game in my mind.
I never really got good in vs games until MSHvsSF though so I ended up liking that game more, and the announcer > LIFE SON!!!
<MSHvsSF Announcer> SHINKU TATSUMAKI SENPU KYAKU!!! KO!!! </End> Godly
I was going to post a thread about favorite super screens from the V-series. XSF’s was tame, MSF and MVC had the craziest super screens, and MVC2 (despite its 3D backgrounds) wasn’t as good. Then again, the sound before a super in MVC2 ching is pretty cool.
X-Men COTA played a big role in this, as it was the HUGE start of the Capcom/Marvel cross-over that led to the Vs games.
I still remember the first time i saw X-Men:COTA in arcades, and how BLOWN AWAY i was at the graphics! Never before had such gorgeous animation&detail gone into characters of a fighting game.
Those sprites still hold up pretty well today IMO, and put sprites of some of today’s recent game releases to shame(KOFXI i’m looking at you).
Until that time all we saw was stuff like SuperSFIITurbo, tame in comparison as visuals go.
I played a ridiculous amount of X-Men:COTA over the summer of ‘95…I was 13, just finished elementary school, and took a road trip with my family across Eastern Canada and the US. Crazy enough most every hotel we stayed at had an arcade (even random Vermont hotel), with COTA. There were so many little things to the game - how you could delay Sentinel’s strong punch missles, Colossus and Cyclops’ OTG throws, Omega Red and Wolverine’s taunts (which required like, raging demon motions), Colossus’s random chain combo, etc etc.
I also believe COTA was the start of Capcom’s second glory run…after Super Turbo most of the general public had stopped really caring about fighters, and Capcom had become sort of a running joke for the amount of SF2 sequels they churned out. Darkstalkers flopped in the US, and it wasn’t until the Marvel games that Capcom got back in the public eye again.
Someone cook up a mugen with V-series characters.
if your talking about COTA starting the graphics for the versus series, then yes, COTA started it all, but if your talking about gameplay, then no your wrong.
not even close dude. The fighting game scene in the USA was dead after SFA came out. Capcom never had a good 2nd run on fighting games and they even had 3 major titles that were badass which is SFA3, SF3rdStrike, and XVSF. Even with those titles, capcom still couldnt come close to reviving the fighting game scene. By that time, capcom was focusing on their important titles aka Resident Evil, Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis and Mega Man series. Why, cause they sell millions, not thousands so their 2nd glory run was thanks to their games that wasnt a fighting game.
:lovin: You own my soul now good shit!!!
Both the Street Fighter Alpha, and the Marvel games played a big role in revitalizing the 2D Capcom fighter genre.
Things were kinda stale after SuperSFIITurbo, then Capcom came out with X-Men COTA and SFAlpha1 and BOOM! 2D-capcom was thriving again.
Wowsers! What alternate reality did you come from, where history played out so DIFFERENTLY, and 2D-Capcom flopped after the SFII series ended?
Nope not in this demension. The SFAlpha and Marvel fighter series, were all Mega-Popular in their day. Just as much, if not more so than when the original SFII hit.
Does anyone know the tiers for COTA, MSH, XSF, and MSF?
It warms my heart to know that EA has picked up the Marvel rights, and we all
know that Marvel : Nemesis was as great a game as the VS. Series was.
returns back to reality
Sucks to know there’s a sequel in the works. Oh boy.
I use to play XvsSF all the time at bars when I was like 7-10 years old (can’t remember). Good times in Germany
Umm…no?
I guessing you never experience the “GOLDEN AGE” of fighting games right? When the Versus series, A3 and 3rdstrike were coming out, not alot of convienant stores even had arcades anymore. Pizza Hut, 7-11, wal-mart, etc. all took their arcades off there floors cause no one was playing them. Why play XVSF when you can go home and play Final Fantasy 7 or tomb raider. Since you super warrior say that capcom had a great 2nd run on fighting games with the versus series, then prove it to me. Go out there and show me the evidence you have that Alpha and Marvel were so popular, capcom started making more fighting games left and right. Between XVSF, SFA3 and SF3rdstrike, A3 was the only game to sell over 500,000 copies in the USA for the PS1. Other than that, no other fighting game from capcom even to this day sold 500,000 copies anymore. Thats why CVS2 and MVC2 for the PS2 were release with limited copies.
Out of all those games I enjoyed MvsC2 the least! Each game got better and better, but MvsC2…the switch up on the fighting left about half the characters useless in this format! Too many moves were removed and what remained were GARBAGE! Characters that were once very popular & tightly matched became lambs to the slaughter! IMO!:arazz: :annoy:
Why are people acting like COTA came out so long after ST? They both were released in 1994, ST in the spring, COTA towards the end of the year. Heck, Vampire/Darkstalkers came out not much earlier than COTA did.
