10 dead at Oregon Community College

I think everyone is confusing american gun culture with american criminal culture.

Mental illness isn’t a determining factor in someone going on a rampage, so we really don’t know who will do it next really.

To be fair, gun registry would not have prevented what happened in Oregon since the shooter didn’t own those guns legally anyways.

On the subject of mental health, IMO you need to be messed up in the head to go out and murder mass quantities of people in cold blood. There are lots of assholes in the world, but not all of them have the sociopathic mentality to want to go out and kill a lot of people in cold blood.

First of all keep in mind this was 2013 when this was uploaded so that means the show is at least 2 years old.

Second they slightly go up or stay the same if you use the absolute numbers. Which means on populational basis** they are going down or remaining constant.** If factors don’t change, crime numbers naturally go up with population size while remaining constant when normalized for population size. That’s why we use rates when discussing trends because of the fact that populations change which naturally changes the absolute numbers as well.

Because the population has increased by 33% since 1970 and the number of mass shootings has remained constant, this means the rate per capita has declined.

It also depends on your definition for mass shooting because the current one that gives the 200 some figure doesn’t actually require any deaths.

If we’re to use this as a barometer of mental health, many world leaders and the people their armies are made of are mentally unfit for their jobs.

Ok so I went through the mass shooting tracker list to see this claim that mass shootings are going up. At least over the three year period they have on record, does not seem to be the case that they are increasing in the short term.

http://shootingtracker.com/wiki/Mass_Shootings_in_2015

Format = Absolute numbers (Numbers per 100,000 population)

2013:
Incidents: 364 (0.11)
Deaths: 502 (0.16)
Injuries: 1266 (0.40)
Total Victims: 1768 (0.56)

2014:
Incidents: 337 (0.11)
Deaths: 383 (0.12)
Injuries: 1239 (0.39)
Total Victims: 1622 (0.51)

2015 (Incomplete):
Incidents: 301 (0.09)
Deaths: 381 (0.12)
Injuries: 1109(0.34)
Total Victims: 1490 (0.46)

I can do projections on this if I feel bored later, but you’ll probably get a number somewhat in line with 2014 for 2015.

Sounds like Congress to me, so I don’t see the difference here.

To be honest many world leaders have proven that they are unfit for their jobs.
