i know ur trying. im trying to get the message out to everyone else!
I feel like drama gets to people easier these days. I feel like what Mkenzie said was the best way to sum it up, “What Slash and Angel don’t realize, Portland is still free to everywhere else”. With people being territorial about their tournaments, we’re never going to get better. And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m tired of losing to Seattle all the fucking time. I hope we can get our shit together soon.
THIS POST IS A COMPLETE DERAIL BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID ON MY BEHALF
Haha IMO I know that majority of PDX is free to everyone else. I’ve never been territorial, IMO. Thats the goal of what I’m doing is to get stuff together. I think that Epic, while not a center of all the hub-bub, is a perfect location to have this.
A lot of people say that having a tournament in the center of something is good, but, while I may essentially be on the newer spectrum of things, I believe that, while a tournament in the downtown area is cool, convenience won’t always be there. I mean when I look at Seattle tournaments, I don’t really think there have been many tournaments (in the past year) that have really been in Seattle.
Off hand I can count the 6th street inn, Tournament Wars at the best western and Bloody Knuckles. Aside from that, most tournaments I recall have been outside of Seattle.
With all that aside.
A LOT of you know I have been critical of how things have been going in Portland, and EVERYONE knows that I absolutely hate how everything has been falling into place, but I can only do so much as one person.
Most of my criticisms are from a standpoint of what people are trying to do at a tournament, given what they have. Not actually participating actually gives me something different to focus on, which is the streaming that I put out, and work on to keep it an amazing quality, as well as see how everything is being run.
And I want to touch on the venues I’ve seen in the past 2 years.
Versis – great venue, hella hard to get out to though. I can’t say too much about this because at that time, I was more focused on playing/talking Tennis. Thats about it.
Ground Kontrol
When you look at past Slugfest, and when I say past Slugfests, I’m talking July/August/September. When it was just singles. It ran incredibly smoothly, despite how many people entered, the only time it ever went “over” was, to be honest, my fault because I took longer than needed to be to get the streams setup. But that’s when Slugfest was singles. Ground Kontrol was able to handle something of that caliber, but when people wanted to start doing more and add more into it, that’s when everything started to fall.
TL;DR It is local making it easy to get to, but on that same note, it can get packed quickly.
Tilt
HELLA EASY TO GET TO, but space wasn’t ideal, nor was places to sit.
Purest
This place is also local, but IMO, while its big, it isn’t setup to do something of large scale tournament caliber. I have not seen a real tournament at Purest, but after the mini-tournament a couple weeks ago, it doesn’t appear to be viable. Again, this is all opinion.
Epic
This place is a good location. There are plenty of places to sit and kick it. The one downside is that its not exactly easy to get to in terms of a centralized location. There is a bus line and it makes it easy to access. A great internet connection, and if people can all carpool out there, then it can become a great location, be it weeklies and/or monthly gatherings.
TL:DR;
I’m not really territorial in terms of who can be where, I have invited everyone to my tournaments, whether there has been beef in the past or whatever. I hate losing to Seattle, and I’m sure that deep down, Seattle wants that challenge. But like I’ve said in the past, to squash beefs, I can only do so much as one person…
–Wow…that was a lot of stuff to say lol–
Edit: SamB had a good point so edited.

Yo Slash, what are the chances of getting an MvC3 team section added to this also?
As long as there is plenty of interest. If I can get an idea count, I’ll put it into consideration aka there are teams it will happen.
Slash-do you have an idea of what kind of turn out you’ll have for the 26th?
Doug, Shredder and me so far I know will be coming down.
Unfortunately no, I’m trying to get an idea, so I’ll be working on that. I have promotional stuff out around DT portland and Gametrader in beaverton
